Yes - patients come from all over the world to have this dentistry performed. Everyone is an "esthetics expert" but how many dentists can claim this for gold? "Observe the masses and do the opposite..."

Very few Dentist do good foil restorations in my area, I know of known.

Gold foil is performed competently by less than 200 dentists in the world today. Gold Inlays and Onlays are performed by many more, perhaps in the thousands, but try the Academy of R V Tucker Study Clubs website to find a dentist near you.

Yes - Class II would take a few hours, and they tend to get pitted over time on the occlusal, but they last!

Do you think removing amalgam from molars to replace them with gold onlays is wise or is there a chance that those molars will need root canals by moving the amalgam.

Generally no. My philosophy is to leave things in place if they meet the esthetic, functional and structural needs of each patient. Risk of root canal treatment may be greatly lowered by following the best practices when addressing removal situations: rubber dam, new burs, magnification and the proper antibacterial and lining materials. Additionally, root canal risk may be reduced by understanding and executing the optimal bite relationship, cement choice and quality of fit in the final gold restoration. Best wishes to you! Dr. S

What all compositions are used in a crown that has 89.5-91.3% gold? I ask bc I’m looking for a bright yellow crown with 89.5% gold.

In So California for the best gold, it would be somewhere between $1500-3000 depending on who performs the work.

@@inthefleshpayyourrespect8020 You can get bright yellow in various percentages of gold - the gold manufacturers (Jensen, Argen, Ivoclar) can add small amounts of copper to increase the yellow color. I'd opt for Jensen JRVT or Argen HP77.
