    I had the same experience in Phantom Canyon. Great place to camp but no gold. In 2006 one of the old timers told at "Golden Detectors" told me not to go down there because the mines in Cripple Creek and Victor mine microscopic gold in ore. So by the time it hits the creek it's too small to see. You probably found gold but you just could not see it. Phantom Canyon is a must camp for Colorado!

  • @Snowcrash777

    I live in Victor, CO. The oldtimers told me there wasn't anything down there but now I know. Actual placer gold is rare around here as well although veins aren't if you are willing to risk the old tunnels. I'm not. Most of the gold here is all extracted from ore as you probably know but it was fun to watch you hit a creek. I haven't prospected since I moved from North San Juan CA ( Gold Country ). I had the 3 forks of the Yuba, the Feather, and the American River so I was disappointed with local prospecting. You earned my sub and like. Best Regards

    Hello there, I’m a panner from the gold country of California, man I admire your tenacity to find the shine. But I think I’ll have to go to disc golf as my outside hobby when I move to Colorado in less than a month. I’ll leave the gold to you, I don’t find much here in califas but a beautiful day outside is a beautiful day outside. You do great videos, I always look forward to them.

    We got into an area up there with a ton of garnets. No gold. The entire cripple creek, victor area has very, very little placer show. The gold is all locked up in it's host rock on the micron/atomic level. I've seen a few specimen samples come from the big mines up there that show gold, but they are super rare.

    If your on the western slope there's a little town called Ouray. If you go there and park in the hot springs parking lot and walk across the street to a dirt lot that has the starts of a trail in it you can find gold, copper, iron, and gemstones just buy looking.

    Hello..i used to live in victor and cripple creek so this video was pretty cool. If you are still in colorado you should try a place called happy meadows campground. It is about 30 minutes from cripple creek. I found quite a bit of flour gold during my time there along with black sands containing so much garnet that the sands were purple at times. Have found several other precious stones in that creek as well. The closer to tarryal reservoir you get the thicker the deposits of gold in my opinion

    I love Phantom Canyon & Ive looked in certain areas but youre definitely looking in the wrong place there... But yes gold is in the area. =) The first little spot is one of the heaviest camped spots so if there ever was anything in there it has been gotten, poled & prodded by seasoned prospector & granny glamper alike. However, youre much more likely to find something if it is in 8 mile creek if you keep going up past the red bridge. After that it starts getting hairy & the tourists arent likely to make the trek down the side of that embankment. 2 years ago Phantom Canyon flooded & the water got high enough to pull a lot of material down that draw, so some old locked up placer might be float. I personally havent been able to access any streams in the nearby vicinity to victor or cripple creek due to their being private property. Good luck! Watchin!

  • @2Qwk2C
    @2Qwk2C5 жыл бұрын

    Well now I feel better. I was out there that same week and didn't find anything. I read somewhere that the gold in Victor upstream from there is from a collapsed volcano (?) and that it collapsed inward which is why there's no gold in the creek.

    Yeah the Geology says there's no gold, but the history or the mining town of Victor upstream suggests there might be alluvial gold here. However, this place has never been dredged before and there have never been any active placer claims here so all that info alone told me there wouldn't be anything.

    Is it My Line Matters ("MyLineMatters"?)? Looked for the reference. Couldn't find anything in the "Show More". Did you forget? Actually a great video - shows how you "prospect". I've been "skunked" before, too - when I thought I was doing all the right things. Just no gold. - Thanks!

    Looks like you are near the local elevation, as the hills aren't looking very high. I was curious about the formation dipping into the creek. Fremont Limestone has massive beds, vertical jointing, weathers gray, is silty and has sharp plane faces. The dipping formation shows how geologically active the region has been.

    The resin i asked is i was hoping to see more on usage of the bucket. Like how full the cup can be before it needs the be dumped into a pan. Or can you keep filling with material until its all gold in the cup. ( wishful thinking) There is not too much hard information on the bucket out there. Cheers Scott
