    While pushing the metal ribbon/bands out with a plastic knife you mentioned not to scratch/scrape the metal coating of the black ring. I noticed large parts of my metal coating is missing from the black ring exposing the rusted metal underneath. Have I been eating that stuff because it has obviously come off?!

  • @gregorydahl

    @gregorydahl

    9 ай бұрын

    The black coating is an electrical insulating material to keep the heating element spring from touching bare metal and shorting out . Don't put water in the hot sugar spinner or it can cause damage to the black material and cause bits of it to crack and pop off . Replace it he said if that happens .

    If the machine is sparking that’s an easy fix by removing the brush, then sanding it so it’s even, then putting em back. You’ll need needle nose pliers though. And possibly a more aggressive sanding on the middle to prevent it from happening again.

  • @gregorydahl

    @gregorydahl

    Does sugar get in there ? Or is that the reason never pour waterthrough to steam it clean .

  • @Kalicranston

    @Kalicranston

    9 ай бұрын

    @@gregorydahl No, it’s because the brush can get worn down unevenly, and eventually it’ll spark when only a tiny part is touching it. The sandpaper is to make it a flat surface. Once the machine is running again, it takes a few minutes to get going but by then it’s good as new.

    BIG thank you for sharing this very well made step by step video. More importantly, thank you for sharing the alligator clip power cable trick! That tip alone is 🔥 Based on your experience, how often would you suggest performing a deep clean (after how many servings)? Also, is there a trick to making sure all the water is safely removed from the double ribbon head (besides letting it air dry 24-48 hours)? Merci.

    We clean based on visual inspection of the ribbons (if they are clogged or not). After you let it air dry, you can run the machine with no heat to ensure it is dry enough.

    Thanks loads for sharing this video, it's been great. I tried to burn off the heating element using jumper cables from a car which was running and they didn't even get slightly hot. Is that me being stupid using the wrong tools or do I need new elements?

    I find that when it happens on my machines sugar has gotten behind the dial or the dial has moved to far towards the plate. Hot water takes care of the first (remember to dry all moisture out before using), and resetting the dial distance will take care of the other. Mine has an Allen screw that can be loosened on the dial for adjustments.

    I really like this video. I have a Gold Medal Whirlwind machine. Are you sure it's okay to put the band AND ribbon in water? I think the user manual says to not submerge the ribbon (silver heating element) in water, but if it's not a big deal, it will save much time.

    Any electrical supply house will have them. Just make sure they can handle the load. 12 gauged wire should be big enough. Too small wire will melt from the amperage.

  • @richardballard6604

    @richardballard6604

    I always thought it was to protect the terminals from the sugar, but we have quit using them as the sugar has no effect on them. We also removed the terminal strip and connect straight to the screws. Works good for us and we make cotton candy for our circus every year, so it runs a long time when we use them.

    If the machine sparks when heat is turned on what causes it

  • @spunparadise8823

    @spunparadise8823

    3 жыл бұрын

    If sparking it usually means the electrical connections on the ribbon are likely too close to the aluminum in the head of the machine. Try bending the wires away. OR some of the film has been chipped off of the black band, which means the black band would need to be replaced. Thanks!
