=======================================
Gold Fever was the BBC documentary which followed Steve Redgrave and his coxless four team in the years leading up to Sydney.
It chronicled how the four-time gold medal winner, long-time partner Matthew Pinsent plus James Cracknell and Tim Foster as the quartet built towards the millennium games.
All four members of the crew, plus super-sub Ed Coode, made entries into video diraries which recorded the highs and lows of their professional and personal lives.
For Redgrave that meeant a battle with diabetes, a condition he was disagnosed with during the period covered, as well as an addition to his family.
Foster had two major injuries, one of them self-inflicted after an accident with a window at a party and the other a career-threatening back problem.
His absence brought Coode into the boat for the 1999 season, and left him and Foster facing a selection dilemma handled by coach Jurgen Grobler - another key player in this drama.
Cracknell faced up to making decisions between his sport and his long-term girlfriend.
Meanwhile Pinsent came over as the rock on which the others depended - with little more dramatic than moving house taking place for him off the water.
It all added up to a fascinating soap opera with high class sport thrown in as a bonus, and has left anyone who viewed it in the UK even more determined to support the four at Sydney.

I do not own this video, I simply downloaded all parts from the channel of oneworldfamily ( / oneworldfamily , THANKS A LOT FOR UPLOADING THIS!!), put it together, tried to get rid of the black borders and reuploaded it.
When the rowers returned there was another documentary/episode named 'The Rowers Return', however I have yet to find it anywhere for sale or on the internet.

I really love the attention that is put on rowing in Gb. Here in Italy we're treated a little bit like curling players

wow that's a bummer man - here there's a massive rowing scene. At university there were loads of boats and a big social side, and here in London there are 20+ clubs and the river is always alive with boats doing pieces against each other, launches zipping past, etc

@@LSERCAlex even here we have many clubs, just in Rome there are about 15/20 rowing clubs. But many people ignore rowing, i mean it isn't that popular as in Gb. The only rowers that are known are the Abbagnale brothers

@@elio9234 I think one of the reasons why it's more recognized here is that many of the elite went to schools and universities where rowing was a big thing, so there's a social side to it as well and people will attend regattas as part of the summer season... not just Henley but also smaller ones like Molesey and Kingston. It's a good excuse for a day out next to the river

And that's with Italy producing the best boats in the world and also very competitive crews...

rowing is mainly big in private schools tbh in uk
I think... this is one of the best sporting documentaries ever made
Tim seemed easy going however, its easy to see how much he cared and was determined to get back after his injuries. This is my second time watching this and I still enjoyed it quite abit.
You can see why Redgrave was elite even at that as age. His power on an erg might have been reduced but the amazing effortless technique made the boat fly.
I had the privilege to row on the same water as Steve and Matt in a Heads trace around 95/6. They and Tim and James are absolute 'animals' in the nicest possible way. I was proud to share the water with them, one of the highlights of my time rowing. It is, in my opinion, just about the greatest team sport there is.💪
I remember watching this first time around. Thanks for putting this together.
this is a fantastic documentary series I remember it well and anyone interested in rowing or just sport in general should watch it thankyou for listening
The ''Your best performance'' joke by James always cracks me up :D
"The 8 is less likely to get Olympic Gold" Funny that! lol
1:57.50 10 Olympic golds in that room
26:00 pretty much sums the life up
The best movie for rowing ever!
I like rowing.

As long as someone is below 6 minutes they have a chance to be on an Olympic boat. Rowing on water is and the boat going fast is much more than a 2k score. I believe Redgrave barely made 6min at that time. But look at him rowing in the boat, he is so balanced and effortless that makes the boat so much faster than an erg monster yanking and pulling hard but making the boat unbalanced.

I'm not sure their overall PB's, but if you want to know their results from the testing: Pinsent (5:42), Cracknell (5:46.9), Foster (5:53.4), Coode (5:53.5 [re-test]), Redgrave (6:10). Source: Four Men in a Boat (Rory Ross / Tim Foster). Not sure what Redgrave's re-test was, it was not mentioned
Did they win????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
