That arch was like a father taking his son on a camping trip. It was tough love. It did start out ruthless but Piccolo grew emotionally attached to Gohan by watching him grow. Gohan needed it just as much as Piccolo did.

he doesnt abandon them..he dies to protect them, i swear dragon ball fans dont even watch the show they just go off of tiktok, piccolo is NOT a good role model or father figure, the first thing piccolo did when he had to take care of him, he left him in dinosaur habitated land with no protection. I hate the trope that goku just leaves his family. He has no other choice 1. When he first died, he did it to PROTECT gohan so he wasnt kidnapped by raditz, 2. He teleported cell away to stop earth from exploding (which his family inhabited), piccolo was not nuturing whatsoever for the dragon ball z series, and the Super series butured all of the characters morals so you cant count that.
