DBS is a redemption arc for Goku in being a lesser absentee father. Goku is lucky that the gang is close and takes care of each other despite not being a real family.

And most of the time he was absent, Goku was.......well, dead. And we can't expect a dead parent to take care of a child. 😅 And Goku has shown time and time again that he loves his boys in spite of everything. ❤

@@SmellenBellen he's a solid dad before Super. Took a beam to the heart fighting against Raditz to save Gohan. He followed Gohan way over to Namek. He pushed his son to be the best he could be against Cell. He Decided to stay dead so his old enemies would stop attacking the Earth. We may not have always agreed with his thinking, but you could see the logic there. In the Buu saga he was ehhh a bit frustrating. In super he's just a different person all together lol.
