8:40 Thats a specific type of pick scrape, they do that by turning the pick sideways and scrapping all the strings while sliding left hand down the neck on muted strings at the same time. Its so distinctive for them that its often called "Gojira pick scrape"

Gojira is a masterclass in riffs, intelligent lyrics and drumming in another level. I can’t say enough about how much I love this band. I hope you keep listening to them beyond these reaction videos. Although they’ve tamed a bit in their last couple of albums they are still writing amazing music and are leading the charge of metal into the 2020s.

Future classic. Truly a Mastercraft of metal and a solid mix of trippy effects and pacing. The outro is wild. The signature sound you mention is the ever famous Gojira "Pick Scrape". It is 100% done perfectly even live on the songs!

Lyrically the song is about Astral Projection/Travel. Some of what he saw after leaving his body. The song Heaviest Matter of the Universe is about the sleep paralysis he experienced when trying to get out of his body into the astral realm. Sounds wild, but as someone who also can Astral Travel.... Spot on.. the experience itself is wild, lol.

I just saw them play this live on Sunday night. What an AMAZING show. Gojira kicked ass!! Mastodon blew me away too!

Great song! Gojira rocks! Honestly, because there's such a huge difference in the song before and after the drop, I honestly couldn't recall at the start of this video if this song actually had lyrics! Even though I've heard it at least a dozen times! xD
