    I like to think that Uncle Gary calls Tyrion "imp", not as an insult, but because Gary was the one who taught Tyrion to own the cruel names and make them his own.

    I am sad that the payoff to the Quentyn and Victarion plots happen at such a distance, but I agree you tied them up as best as you could in one chapter. I wonder how feasible it would have been to do very very short chapters for the both of them to replicate the fast pace of battle.

    This whole battle made me think of how Tywin would never be in this scenario, the man Tyrion idolizes so much. Reminds me of what he counselled Jaime, 'Keep your friends at your back and your foes where you can see them.'

    I always thought Tyrion picking up cyvasse along the shy maid was a fun part of the story. I guess because it feels like it gives him a new form of agency in his life. It's sort of like he's learning how to use Eastern practices to serve him rather than relying on what he learned in his life in Westeros. I'm assuming George just decided he wanted chess without retconning what we've seen in Westeros, but I'm happy either way.

    It’s probably a reference to the fact that chess was invented in India and then moved through the Middle East to Europe in the Middle Ages

    25:48 I really like that this line works as a double entendre. Daenerys' only allies in the region were the Lhazarene (Lambs) and King Cleon's Astapor (Butchers). So Daario is also chiding Jorah, as he would have expected Jorah to return with reinforcements from their allies but instead he has come with dwarves and cripples. Not sure if this was intentional, but it definitely builds on their hostile relationship.

    The part where you're describing the animals in the menagerie; reminds me of The Last Unicorn novel. Where the Unicorn is walking through the cages of the traveling "magical animal" circus but all the animals (except the Harpy) are all fake mythological animals and sickly/maimed.

    I feel like the ending to this one has good emotional punch to it and I'm glad that you were so overt in pointing out Tyrion's pattern of saving "the sob story girl" often to his own detriment. I suspect that this hits me hard for personal subjective reasons. I love when a piece of writing is able to put to words a particular emotional experience or psychological pattern that has particular meaning to me in such an elegant way. Truly though, all of the fanfiction chapters so far have been a delight. And I love watching your videos going through your thought process about writing the chapter line by line. There are always things that I otherwise would have missed in a simple listen of the finished chapter that you point out in your explanation of your choice of edits or choice of words which greatly enrich my enjoyment of the piece. I'm super excited for Aeron because I think the levels of hell symbolism is a fascinating concept and I loved how you chose to parallel it here. Thank you to everyone who works to write and edit this project for all your time and effort volunteered to produce this level of quality.

    Since the Mercy Men go around killing the wounded after battle, Tyrion saying "how nice of them to answer my prayers" is pretty dark.

    I was the head teacher of a gaming club at a top university, with very very bright students. You'd be amazed at how many of them managed to grasp the mechanics of a game without having ever played it before (or sometimes any other games) and went on to immediately beat more seasoned players. It's a form of intelligence that Tyrion apparently shares.

    @memeaficionado the freedmen af the other gates winning their battles and swing around to help. Second sons and windblown go over and surprise attach from within while barrister charges with his cavalry and pitfighters while the unsullied form up. And on top of that you have the kraken fleet launching an amphibious assault on their ships and landing on the shores to assault the besiegers from behind. They had numbers yes, but no way to respond to s situation like that

    @@Ardenator1 I agree, but I understand the situation as not dany's forces losing, but everyone losing. I mean, it's a total chaos, unsullied, dothraki, sellswords, different slave masters' forces, iron fleet, dragons, elephants... It's probably a total bloodbath, everyone is killing everyone

    The most crazy part is that the dragons played so little of a role. I think Preston's guesses are mostly right but the thing I'm sure is that during the battle (perhaps when Victarion blows the horn) the dragons will start getting angry and breathing fire. I think at that point it will be a demonstration of the horor of the field of fire with most of the yunkish army burning or fleeing

    So why are the Windblown following Arch in this chapter? Are we supposed to assume that he told them that the Tattered Prince was being held hostage by Barristan - and the Windblown were so loyal to Tatters that they were willing to trust Arch's crazy risky plan to get him back?

  • @Jord73

    @Jord73

    According to Preston's theory The Tattered Prince died (in stead of Quentyn) and now Arch dresses up as him. His followers do not know it's Arch.

  • @Mj_Jetson

    @@Jord73 Preston's idea was that because Tatters says he looks so ordinary that he can go unnoticed without his iconic cloak, therefore someone like Arch who doesn't look like Tatters at all can somehow pass for Tatters, if he's wearing the cloak, right? Putting aside the strained logic with that, Tyrion doesn't mention the cloak in this chapter, but does mention Arch's large size and fav weapon - so he can't possibly be posing as Tatters then, can he? Preston decided that wouldn't work after all?

    @@Jord73 I thought Gerris was the one posing as Tatters? because he is regular size. I think Arch is just his bodyguard, but from a distance, it could seem like the men were following the distinctive bodyguard, rather than the rather ordinary looking actual (fake) Tatters.

  • @Mj_Jetson

    @Mj_Jetson

    @@chrisrubin6445 hmm maybe? Drink matches the description of Tatters much more closely, and there is precedent for PoVs being wrong about whose leading the army (i.e. Asha thinking Little Walder's leading the army at the Battle of Ice when he almost certainly isn't) But its still odd that there's no mention of the cloak or Drink in the chapter?
