Going Off Grid EP16 - Cabin Kitchen Build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
With a bit of effort we have made ourselves a kitchen! We made a decision to build the kitchen from scratch using plywood and dressed pine. It's built simply like the old kitchens I grew up around. Also, the prices of the flat pack kitchens are no longer a cheap option. They are pretty darn expensive if you ask me for what you get. The materials for our kitchen and stairs cost around $1000 then add a few hundred for the tops, hinges and drawer slides etc. We are very happy with how it turned out! We have a few more things to do to finish it all off, like the plumbing and splashback. I filmed the entire build however after making the first cabinet, the rest looked much the same so I really only show the first cabinet and parts of the rest.
We hope you enjoyed the video and we would love to see you in the comments!
Regards
Scott and Judy!

I just wanted to drop you a quick comment to express how much my wife and I have loved watching you both build these sheds Scotty! The level of detail and craftsmanship you put into the project was exceptional. Not only did you make it look effortless, but you also explained each step in a way that was easy for us to follow along. It was like watching a master at work. Keep up the fantastic work mate!

Mate, You know what they say. Happy wife - happy life. You've done a rippin' job Scott, it looks amazing and the wife smiled so she's happy. You seem to be one of these lucky buggers that can turn his hands to do anything, it's a very fortunate trait.

Quality kitchens are made like this, not the chipboard rubbish that a lot of so called hi end manufacturers. Great job, it’ll last a lot longer than mdf or chipboard. The trouble nowadays is getting good plywood, as you showed. Keep up the excellent work.

One of the most impressive things about Scott's craftsmanship is his ingenious custom jigs, such as at approximate timestamp 14:00. His ingenuity never ceases to amaze me and I'm no slouch with this sort of thing. Installing the drawer hardware is critical and that went smoothly, and gapping the doors is another critical element that was executed to perfection. As much as Mrs. Turner enjoys giving Scott a gentle, good-natured pranging for perceived transgressions in design, you can tell she adores the bloke. He's a keeper, Missus! Cheers.

Great stuff. You know it's all Scott built when the tall cabinet drops right in flush and plumb next to the wall. That never happens in real life! LOL Well done, Scott. I bet even the "fussy customer" is happy with this kitchen! Gutsy move using non-adjustable hinges too. No fear, maker style.

Nice work Scott. You're a man after my own heart. It seems every time I get a quote for something these days I end up saying "Bugger it, I'll do it myself and get what WE want". This year I'm basically earning 2 Lawyer salaries renovating our house. :)

Years ago, I remodeled a house, and got used cabinets from two transportable homes, and saved the cabinets, countertop and wall panels, and installed them in the house. The landlord I was helping said it looked like a million dollars, and I was pleased with the outcome. Unfortunately, the landlord didn't do his part in some major repairs that were not part of my work, so the house sat vacant for more than a decade.

Great work! That would have been a huge effort!
That was close to the height of my Grandma's cabinets (that is, when it was on its side confusing the Boss 😁) Grandpa made them for her, of course, and Gran was all of 4'6" or so (1.3-ish meters). My aunt was quite upset when her roof leaked and the water did some damage to her cabinets, also made by Grandpa. Luckily what was damaged was small enough and repairs minor as well as out of sight, so they still are up, she didn't have to replace them. Her brother redid the roof for her and the wall damaged by the Ice melt. Something that (one fervently hopes) should never be an issue for you

Excelente video amigo Scott! Fuerte abrazo amigo Scott!
