briefly i'll explain a few concepts of this game: white makes various errors. the rook sacrifice is fine, however players who play this line must make sure that they know what they are doing, that they have studied the line and best continuation and results thoroughly, and that they follow each step all the way to success. if for any reason your opponent defends well, as it is the case here, and of course Hikaru knows this type of rook sacrifice play, then your best other option is to seek a draw. White makes a major error of opening the d file that only helps black; white has only one rook and cannot control the file against black's 2 rooks. Hikaru immediately challenges the single rook of white and in turn he takes control of the file. White's queen goes after the c7 pawn, and black in turn perceives the weakness of back rank unprotected white king. Opening the c file only allows black's rooks to attack white's king. Somehow white did not move its pieces correctly. The sacrifice attempt did not prove fruitful and instead it was black who initiated its own attack with only a few pieces! observe how white's inferior play allows black's queen to move about and enter white's territory. In this game where white sacrifices the rook early in the game such kind of play should not have happened. also white trades down a few major pieces which only benefits black. in the end, i do not think that this rook sacrifice is good at all, players should avoid it, unless you know what you are doing. still both players played well, it was a fun challenging game where white decides to take some risks early in the opening. thanks

Yeah, Bh6 trading the bishops instead of Nf3 would give Hikaru tempo to develop back and get the pieces active
I bet he was tryna get a gaze at Magnus' board every time he looked back 😂😂😂

Hikaru so funny and hilarious chessplayer..
Hikaru's shirt matches with the cap of the guy behind.
Doing anything against Hikaru can be costly.
Good Game
A strange gambit played by White when he sac his rook for Black knight which took the h5 White pawn. It seemed that Hikaru was prepared for such an unusual game based on the way he moved his Queen to check the White King, followed by a fair exchange of rooks which adruptly led to White's resignation.
