Goechala Speed Hike । Completed in 60 hrs । Without Porter Support

Gochala, the only trail in India which can bring you to a touching distance of one of the fourteen eight thousanders, Mt. Kangchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. Our plan was simple, we want to do it as independently as possible. For the permit of the Kanchenjunga national park it’s mandatory to have a guide, so we stick to a guide only and for logistic support we carry on our own and partially depend upon the teahouses.
Usually completing Goechala tooks around 7-9 days but more days means more logistics. So we decided to fast hike the trail. We choose to hike in the last week of march 2021, which is just a week earlier than the actual season for the trail. The trail starts from Yuksom, a tiny village in West Sikkim. On our first day we hiked from Yuksom (1,780m) to Tshoka (2,960m) via Sachen and Bakhim. The total distance was 12km, altitude gain was approximately 1,200m and it took us 6hrs.
On our second day we hiked from Tshoka (2,960m) to Thansing (3,960m) via Pedang and Kokchurung (bypassing Dzongri). The total distance was again 12km, altitude gain was around 1,000m and it took us around 7.5 hrs. On our final day we started from Thangsing in the dark and reached Goechala viewpoint 1(4,580m) at sunrise via Lamuney and frozen Samiti lake. The total distance till VP1 was 7km, altitude gain was approximately 600m and it took us 3hrs.
After witnessing the sun rising over Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Talung (7,349m), Rathong (6,689), Kabru N (7,353m), Kabru S (7,318m), Simvo (6,812), Pandim (6,691m),we headed back to Thangsing in 2hrs. We quickly finished our breakfast at the tea house and started for Yuksom. Reached Tshoka in 5 hrs, completed our lunch and headed back to yuksom with our heavy legs. After hiking for approximately 18 hours (including two breaks) at 8:30pm we reached Yuksom. This was our story, hope you enjoyed it equally, Cheers!

Both of the team members are 30 years old. They have completed many high altitude trek. They have also completed Maneybhanjan to Sandakfu in a single day. They have also crossed mayali pass without any porter support, semi alpine style.

This trek concept of continuous Trek uphill & height gain... is for the advance trekkers only... the Gochala trekking has numbers of casualties, even death because of the lack of acclimatization, lack of supporting staff, and other health issues of the trekkers... As a responsible trekkers one has to hire the local staff while exploring their hear by hills & mountains... contribute some to solve the unemployment crisis... this is actually the concept of the responsible tourism....

In Tshoka and Thansing, chowkidar was present. So we don't have to worry .much about the food. Though we have carried food and butane burner just in case of emergency
What equipments (shoes, bag, trekking pole, jacket etc ) did you use for this trek?. I am planning on doing goechala too later this month and I want some new equipments. Hope you could answer asap:

You can get some mobile network in Tshoka, after that there will be no mobile network connectivity

They do not have electricity, you have to carry an extra power bank to charge your batteries. We have carried an extra power bank.

I think whatever you have done in this trek , it was fantastic if it was actually; done by you. but I think it is possible to reach yoksome in same day after reaching viewpoint 1 from thansing only if he was a super human . ha ha ha

It will be not a problem for you if you are planning to do the trail spending 7-10 days. There will be enough days for you for proper acclimatization. But if you are planning to do it within 60hrs just like us you have be prepared and you a good training session must needed to achieve this goal. Anyway nothing is impossible if you have a proper planning 😊

Day 01: yuksom to Tshoka: night stay in Tshoka hut Day 02: Tshoka to Thansing via Kokchurang: Night stay in Kokchurang Hut Day 03: Thansing to VP1 & back to yuksom in same day: night stay in Yuksom From yuksom to yuksom it took 60hrs i:e 3days
What time did you choose for the trek?
It is my record from samiti lake to yuksom 3.3hours

No, you can't get a permit without a guide as per the park rules. Minimum one guide is mandatory to obtain a permit

We had an expense of around 8,500/- per head from the nearest railway station and back to the nearest railway station

As per the park rules, you can't. They will charge you penalty fees if caught by the park rangers. Some people start from yuksam before sunrise to avoid the park rangers but that is definitely not recommended.
