    This is Star Trek 2 Wrath of Kahn all over again. A follow up to huge budget bombastic film which ultimately ended up crashing and setting up a franchise for failure only to be rescued by talented people working in limiting circumstances financially without intervention on an amazing sequel.

    Saw the movie last night (saw a 9:30pm EST viewing) and it was *ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!* At almost 51 years of age I have seen every Godzilla film released (use to even watch the 1978 Saturday morning cartoon) and Minus One is hands down and bar none *THE BEST* GODZILLA MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN (zero exaggeration)‼️‼️ A Kaiju movie *masterpiece* IMO No disrespect to the monsterverse (I enjoy Legendary Godzilla too), but *Toho* just reminded EVERYONE that Godzilla is *THEIR* monster and that nobody (and I mean nobody) can do Godzilla better than they can. 👍

    See, this is how you make a movie. $15M budget, well written and well executed. It should have no issue being a hit at the box office and not only recover its investment, but turn out a good profit. Big studios need to rethink how they’re making movies and tanking the industry along with their current model. No need to fluff a crappy script with expensive FX, to the point that the movie has no chance at the box office.

    GODZILLA MINUS ONE had a budget of $15 million and looks this good. Meanwhile, Hollywood is spending $200 m - $350 m per movie and losing bank in 2023. Maybe they should try to lock down a good screenplay and plan out VFX in advance and quit trying to rewrite movies in post and rush them out before they're ready.

  • @vercoda9997
    @vercoda99976 ай бұрын

    I've seen a few other rave reviews from trusted critics. The budget shouldn't matter, but yes, hard not to be struck by a high-quality blockbuster like This being turned out for a relatively meagre $15m. If true, Hollywood should take note of both how to deliver awesome but cheap effects, and, more importantly, what well-written characters who Aren't played by globally known names bring to the table. All the best to this film for a very successful run - I want to see it.

    Edit: At this stage, I've seen reviews popping up everywhere - and Everyone *loves* this film, with it very clearly getting marked as one of the best films of the year. I dragged my girlfriend to the IMAX with me today, and although she was reluctant to see a monster movie, she was drawn in by the storyline and plot. As amazing as the actual Godzilla scenes are the human themes were much more powerful. Godzilla is the embodiment of war, Atomic War. And the entire movie is an allegory of that. The harder they fought Godzilla the larger and more powerful he became. While Godzilla might’ve been killable on Oda Island by the plane (unlikely, but we like to convince ourselves that one well placed bullet can prevent a war) he was unstoppable after the Atomic bombing of the bikini atoll. To the average person war is a monster that arises from nowhere (the sea for Japan), and it’s horrible and monstrous. It was amazing seeing how fleshed out the human experience was written. Themes like PTSD, Survivors guilt, the youthful eagerness to run into battle, finding love during war, suic!de, how all wars begin with lies and secrets by the government, and finding purpose and meaning through love and family. We even see themes about the medical side effects of war like cancer from Atomic bombings.

    This film did an amazing job at actually tying in the human characters to Godzilla, and Godzilla to the central narrative. That's something no other Godzilla film since (arguably) Godzilla vs Destoroyah has done. Before that, only 1954 and 1984 were able to do that. All other Godzilla films didn't give a damn about that element. They just made Godzilla movies with a human story passable enough to drive the plot forward. But there's a reason people fast-forward through basically ever G film to get to the monster action. 54, 84, and 95 are the only three Toho films I never fast-forward through because the human stories were actually well told and the monster action tied into it directly. They fed off each other. And now, Godzilla Minus One has followed in those films' footsteps and done it right. It's an absolutely AMAZING experience. The relatable and realistic human issues tied directly to the War and to Godzilla, and how Godzilla himself stands as more than just a nuclear metaphor, but also an obstacle to human growth and a challenge to the human spirit, are spectacularly captured and presented. To be honest, this is now my favorite Godzilla film. It used to be 54. But now it's Minus One. 54 will always hold a special place in my heart as my Number 2. But Minus One just does it better because of the advancement of technology and storytelling since the 54 film's release. It's a natural progression of what brought us 54, and taken to the next level. Bravo, Yamazaki. Bravo.

    I love this movie so much, it's got such a pure soul and so much heart. I've gotten used to films always doing horrible rugpulls in some misguided attempt at being "mature" and "high art" that just feel desperate and borderline sadomasochistic, like being yelled at by a very troubled and vitriolic person, and it always ruins the experience and makes me wish I'd never watched the film in the first place. A few films are able to tackle grim and bleak realities of life effectively, like Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon, but I feel like EVEN FEWER films these days are able to make an audience genuinely happy with well-made action and a story that isn't clamoring to shock/annoy the viewer for maturity points. Godzilla Minus One and films like Avatar The Way of Water and Suzume are the rare exceptions that remind me of how great films used to be, and honestly fill me with hope for the future of blockbusters. What matters most in films like this isn't the writing or predictability or the acting, it's the soul, and Minus One has that in spades. Absolutely didn't expect this would end up being one of my favorite films of the year alongside Suzume, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Killers of the Flower Moon, etc, but it is absolutely going to be on my list for how much heart it has and how satisfied it left me feeling, and I'll be going back to watch it with my family again.

    Glad to see you back Dan, hope your honeymoon was a dream. I've not seen many Godzilla films outside the first one but this sounds really good And I'll check it out. If you're able you should see the Boy and The Heron, it's a new Miyazaki movie and I'm curious to see what you think about it

    I want to know how they pulled this off on a 15 million dollar budget. This movie's visuals are on par with Godzilla vs Kong, a film with 10 times the budget and that's not including advertising or inflation. It makes you wonder where the money goes on these big-budget studio films.

    Ive watches a lot of Godzilla movies, and i think this might be the best one. It is definitely the best human characters in a godzilla movie.

    saw it today. Thrilling. It was so amusing seeing godzilla on land. But in water, its just madness. The action sequences were wow.

    Saw it yesterday. What a damn movie, to think this was done on a $15 mill budget really makes you wonder how Hollywood can have $200 mill budget films be absolute garbage in comparison. Godzilla was the old school real Godzilla in this one, the metaphor of the fallout of the nuclear bombs, the PTSD of the war, etc. Not some nice monster who comes and helps the humans fight other bad monsters like in the US Monsterverse. Absolutely loved the human storyline.
