The military panicked because some ships were touched, but shooting missiles only endangered the people on the bridge, and it's clear that Godzilla went through the bridge only because he was fleeing from the explosions. This movie just builds their appearances up so well. They have weight, there's fear, there's awe. GvK was fun but damn if I don't miss this serious tone, this dreadful tone of kaiju cinema. The music as well is fantastic.

I was just thinking the same about the monster-verse after re-watching this clip. I enjoy the childish nature of GvK but I'm also sad because, even with its flaws, Godzilla 2014 was an actual attempt of making things serious, and it worked. Unfortunately I don't think they will make another serious kaiju-movie. It's like they found their formula and won't let go. It's more of a brand now... :/

The thing is that it was loved at the time. Then Toho announced Shin Godzilla and suddenly everyone turned on the film with the “true fanboys” spending days crapping on this film. I’m thankful for this film and the MonsterVerse as a whole. GvK really helped people come back to this film to see how far it’s come.
@Megaspinosaurusrex

@@IncredibleFulk1 True, it's weird how this film was loved and respected not only for offering a new more respectful version of godzilla to an american audience but also reviving the character and the genre to some extand after a 10 years hiatus. Yet the moment shin got released, everyone started considering G1 obsolete or wrong, and "the japanese were showing how it's done", even though G14 is arguably closer to most japanese godzilla movies and toho itself was satisfyied with the movie. It got worse when kotm dropped bringing lots of fanservice and toxic fans started criticising G14 even more for not doing the same and for having original monsters?! The worst I heard are people who dislike Godzilla 2014 and try to minimise his role in the kaiju renaissance, arguing it was actually thanks to pacific rim or that shin was already in production. Even though pacific rim (which is great) was not half as succesful and G14 itself was in production for a while too. It's also thanks to it that godzilla got popular in the west again, allowing japanese godzilla movies to be released in the US unlike the heisei and millenium movies which mostly got released on home video only.

I love how Godzilla is actually depicted as a Titan but at the same time as an animal. How the humans' weaponries are ineffective to him and he basically find them as slight annoyance or perhaps entirely unimportant, as he hunts the MUTOs. Godzilla is just being a predator in a Titan's food chain and treats humans just as humans treat flies.

Well let us ask this question to ourselves, You have a giant of a beast (Godzilla) who is walking around finding something to beat up that's like only his size.. The fact that Godzilla is smart enough to trick them into thinking that he's smaller using his tail is one of the thing that makes him terrifying. Idk how the human technology got a buff after this. In this movie, they have pretty normal realistic tech and military stuff, then a few years later they can control animals, another few years later they have basically levitating space crafts that can withstand going to the center of the Earth... Making the movie FULLY science fiction!

I know that Godzilla movies tend to be very unrealistic, and I love them because of that, but that's funny because it's true... Something similar happened to Showā Era. They begun with a normal post-WWII world, and ended with aliens and big kaijus from space. The Heisei era had a (kinda) reasonable explanation for the tech being so advanced (reverse engineering tech from the future that got lost in the past). I don't really know about Super X tho Millennium era was straight some case of bipolarity: Sometimes it was set in our real world, and sometimes it went full Power Rangers Monsterverse's futuristic tech somehow popped up from somewhere lmao

@83rdox The water beneath the bay and beyond it is 115 meters /377 ft at its deepest point. The Golden Gate Bridge is 746 ft tall and the clearence is at 220 ft above water. At 2:00 you can see that Godzilla's head is way higher than the suspended cables that reach to his belly and the distance between his head and his belly would be 145 ft. To make that shot accurate Godzilla would need to stand at 891 ft tall and he is officially stated to stand at only 355 ft tall. Taking into account the depth of the water Godzilla's head would barely be able to rise above the water

All the little scenes of Godzilla going out of his way to not harm humans as much as he xould manage always struck me. From literally stopping and waiting for the boats to move (even though they didn't), to surfacing and holding the bridge up, to other little scenes during the battle with the MUTOs when he realized there were people still in the city, the sense of real empathy was an amazing way of character building for a creature you didn't really expect to have much of a personality. The Monsterverse is doing an excellent job.
