    Wes, is an AD400pro overheating test in your roadmap? Would love to see how it performs in that regard. Keep up the good work.

    FWIW I have the AD400 and I’ve used it continuously at events for 2 or 3 hours at usually 1/4 power, thru both a softbox and barebulb bouncing off a wall, and never had any failure- but I can’t tell you how hot it’s gotten (I’m afraid to find out 😬).

    Maybe the extra endurance is achieved by relaxing the colour stability. (This is what Sony did with their on camera flashes to make it compatible with the A9III)

  • @WesPerry

    @WesPerry

    5 ай бұрын

    Seems unlikely. But I’ll keep an eye out for that. It was a necessary sacrifice for the a9iii at higher shutter speeds that are actually faster than the flash, as the colour of the flash varies from the beginning, to middle, to end (starts warm, goes cool, goes warm again). Nearly impossible to avoid this. Limitations of bulb flash technology.

    For your overall testing could you deduce the ACTUAL W/s of the little front flash? I have had trouble finding any actual numbers online. Just to give me a ballpark of comparing it to the 76w/s main flash tube.. And I'd assume using it would knock down the recycle times as well..

    It's surprising that not only they stick with the same design, but also make it larger. One common problem for V1 is that the hotshoe, or in some cases the entire bottom plate, break due to its weight. My broke and the flash hit the floor so hard. Luckily it still work fine (and that was with the metal plate mod installed)

  • @WesPerry

    The FCC approval teardown pictures show that there is a deal of cuircuit duplication to support the removable fill flash. This probably accounts for some of the extra size. BTW don't you find it a bit odd that the fill flash is removable. I would have thought that it would be cheaper and easier to just build it in. I suspect we may see something else that used the slot. A L AF assist light perhaps?

  • @WesPerry

    @WesPerry

    For point 1, yep, they reuse Everything they possibly can, to a fault. Honestly it’s a crime that this flash has the same back screen as the original V1 when everything else is coming out with beautiful OLED displays these days. Including their new nano transmitter. And point 2, especially after taking the fill flash out and finding it’s essentially an empty case with a tiny bulb in it, it seems a Very odd. So Hopefully they come out with some interesting accessories. If it was Only for the fill flash, I would expect 2 contacts, but this mount has 4, so there seems to be the possibility for something else going on there.

    Yes! It’s nearly identical in specifications. Unlike the oddball WB100 battery for the AD100 Pro, this battery’s only difference is the ability to charge via usb-c. V1 Pro likewise functions identically with the old VB26A battery (purportedly. I have yet to test this myself).
