Agreed, Godox need to slim down their range. There's no doubt that whatever you require in terms of a strobe Godox has you covered 😊

Hi Robert. Also note that the SKII series needs to be discharged when the flash output is adjusted from high to low. The "test" button is used for this purpose.

watching this 6 years later and not only did they not combine models and clean it up but added more and complicated it even further I've done a lot of product research and finding the right product for me and I don't think I've even been this confused with a lineup before.

Just what I was looking for. I want to stay in the Godox series. Your vids on equipment especially Godox convinced me. Just a note: the QT series is very usable in HSS mode for mixed sun and flash in studio, allowing shooting with wide apertures with sun, and higher shutter speed with HSS flash.

Big thanks!! I'm looking to switch to Godox lights entirely for everything from big 1200Ws power flashes to smaller AD200 style flashes to Speedlites. Right now I have a mix of Canon, Elinchrom, NiceFoto and more depending on what I shoot... Looking forward to have everything in the same system and being able to combine them all as well with the same trigger. This really helped me out, thanks again!

Nice video, Robert. One point about freezing action. I believe that the QT series are IGBT controlled devices whereas the others are voltage controlled. This means that when a QT flash is on full power it has the longest flash duration and at lowest power it has the shortest. For the other series it's the other way round. This means that in some cases the SK might be a better bet than the QT.

This video did help me out! their product tiers are really confusing. The power level increments are really important factor. Brute power is not always the answer, I need the granularity of controls as well.

Same. I mean, I still want a battery studio strobe option for on the fly outdoor shoots, but I'm still rocking like 5 or 6 Phottix Mitros+ speedlights and Odin ii TCU controller which is still giving me plenty of power.

Taking a chance on these Godox sk400ii and 300ii was totally worth it.

I can't remember when it was, but Godox did release a firmware update for the XPro allowing it to use 0.1 power increments (instead of 0.3).

Thanks, this is really helpful. I'm planning for a major indoor location shoot where I'll have three different backdrop setups and need more lights. I only have two AD600 Pro units and one QT-600 and need a minimum of 4 more lights for this project. I like my QT-600 but noticed cheaper Godox/Flashpoint options available but wasn't sure about all the differences until now. Also noticing that the cost of the QT600 (Flashpoint Rapid 600) when not on sale is fairly close to the cost of an 'open box' AD600 Pro, which has me on the fence.

One more feature to compare is which strobes have autodump. AFAIK, the SK series doesn't, so you have to hit the TEST button between shots if you adjust the power downwards. I think they all use the Bowens S mount. The GSII series doesn't look like it's actually released yet. And agree: they could really do with simplifying the line-up and making it clearer what the differences in-use are. Another big difference is that only the QTII and SKII are Flashpointed by Adorama as the Rapid and the Studio, respectively. The are carrying the QSII and a GT300II (s'what?!) as Godox-branded gear. But you have to go to B&H to find the GSII and DPII strobes. I'm curious to see if they go all the way down to the Mini Pioneers with the MkII upgrading.

I have two DP600II and 2 AD600BM. I found the two series have more than 500 difference in color temperature. The AD series is more close to 5500, the DP series is more close to 5000, (4800 gives more neural color.) I bought them all in china, where there are tons of retails stores. The sales guy admits that the DP is warmer. In same case it can really give me a hard time for post production. I have light, say AD600, shine direct to the back drop when doing high key family portrait. Some time the kids move around and get some spill one the face. If I set the WB in camera for DP series, the spill on kids face will be blueish, very visible. If I set for AD, the whole image will turn ugly yellow. But in other cases, like portrait, ues one series for main, other for kicker, or even add color gel, won't be a issue at all. But I decided to buy two more AD400pro. I believe they provide color more close to AD600.

Yeah the AD600 (as well as 600/400 Pros) are IGBT strobes whereas the DP series is voltage controlled, so it’s not surprising that they have a very different color.

The AD600 is a portable strobe, designed for on location work. And I've covered it well in other videos.

You say bin the GS series ! But this is the only one that has a 200W option & it goes down to 1/32 power. We run a pretty small home studio, been using Bowens 200W lights but now moving over to Godox. ( already have a couple of AD200s and several speedlights all wired in to the Xpro triggers ) So I bought an SK300II & 300W at 1/16th power is too bright for what I am trying to do, the whole studio is white/light grey and I ended up pointing the strobe at the wall behind me and bouncing it back, I also put two layers of white cloth over the softbox to further diffuse/dim it down. Next for me is to get the GS200II and try that. That will give me 100W less and the ability to turn it down another stop ! Or get a 200W bulb and put it in the SK300II, don't know if that would work or not though

Thanks for the great video and breakdown. I might give these another try and get a different series. I bought an Godox SK400II back in November and returned it as the output of the flashes was wildly irregular (not colour, output). Haven't had the same problem with the battery ones (ad200, ad360ii, ad600bm). Do you experience much variance in power output? (Yes I did allow for recycling) :) Probably what I should have expected being a cheapskate and buying a lesser series but I expected it to output correctly..

In the specs on B&H I noticed the SK400II says "Not Applicable" under both the "Mount" and "Warranty Length" headings which makes me wonder, a) is that because it only has a standard mount, and b) that it has no warranty? What is the difference between Godox "quicker II series" vrs "QT II series"? Specifically looking at the 600. I see owners manual on Godox website for the "quicker II 600" and for the QT 600II. The back end of the unit is different. I also see that Adomara under Flashpoint is selling the QT 600II but the pictures of the control end looks like the Quicker II vrs the QT 600II. what gives?

I was actually considering Einstein brand strobes as well. That's not enough info. The answer could be a speedlight, could be a 1200 Pro. It entirely depends on ambient conditions, desired camera settings, and your definition of "fast" recycle time.

I have watched this video (multiple times on the last 5 months, it was the reason why I subscribed to your channel afterwords) to figure out what should be my next (400W) strobe (already have 1x V860ii and 1x AD200). Was undecided between QT400II and QS400II and finally inclined towards the QT400II until .... ... I opened your great spreadsheet and saw that QT400II does NOT have multi mode if running under 220v !? (my case in Europe). Does this mean that if I want stroboscopic/multi mode in Europe I will have to go for the QT600ii model ??

While I don't think such a thing exists in table form, I have a power comparison video up (search godox power comparison) that compares them all in stops which you could use to find equivalent power levels. There's usually no purpose to using it in practice though because it will vary with each modifier anyways.

Hamza Khawaja The DE series work with X1T series with the XTR16 receiver. Or the old 433MHz tigger and receiver.

Great video Robert. Only thing is, other than the QTII series, all the other lights' flash duration ratings are T.5 I believe. I used to have SK I lights, and at minimum power (1/2000), it was not able to freeze a simple water splash what so ever. Maybe you could test to see if this is the case, however.

It was good for what it was. For the price, I found color & power stability to be quite good. If I remember correctly, it was not "quite" 400ws, though, it was more along the lines of 250ws in reality. But I found it enough for what I was doing at the time. The real limitation was the narrow power range, only able to go down to 1/16. That was a bit annoying. Also don't expect to freeze any type of motion. Don't shoot too fast & don't keep the modeling light on too long, and I think it'll do fine for you.

tks for the reply. i expect the version 2 doing better about the power output. cause i think that is big fault/ 400 and only have 250. im thinking of choosing between the sk ver 2 and the dp ver 2.

none of these have TTL. every strobe in existence has manual mode

I've made a video on the Blaz / MS series. I think it's a better option than the SK series nowadays (smaller size, lower minimum power). But, the QS / QT series still stand out above it, and DPIII is best high output budget option.

Minimum power of 1/16 or 1/32 are oddly limited. I'm used to strobe that go down to 1/128 such as AD600. Is this so uncommon?

Strobes are either IGBT or voltage controlled. IGBT strobes commonly go down to 1/128, 1/256, or 1/512. I'd call 1/128 the "norm". But voltage controlled strobes typically don't have the same range.

I’m considering buying the sk400ll I have looked it in different websites but some say that recycle time at full power is 1sec, others 3secs, you said 1sec. So have you actually test it to check if indeed is 1sec?

If you haven't made your purchase yet, you won't be disappointed. I picked up 2 sk400ii's and 2 sk300ii's. They are amazing for the price and have rock solid HSS with the xpro-c transmitter.

Yep!! Wireless HSS at that AND rear curtain sync up to 1/8000 sec. Works great with the xPro-c on my Canon Dx1 & 5Dmkiii. Cheap, effective and powerful in the studio. And if you need to do an outdoors shoot, grab a vagabond knockoff or two.

No. Flash duration is the time it takes the flash to go from it's full output to one tenth of it's output (t.1) or half it's output (.5). It is a measurement of how fast the flash dissappears, which is used to determine it's action-freezing potential. It has nothing to do with the shutter speed it is capable of shooting at. The SK series is not HSS compatible.

@@robhallphoto have you measured the t.1 time? I have a meter but it's basic and can't measure t.1 but to try and judge the speed I use a fan with marks on the blade and there doesn't seem to be much difference between full power and 1/16 power in the ability to freeze the fan. Which could explain why I and friends can get acceptable images from the SK300ii at shutter speeds up to 1/4000 second.

So with the SK300ii won’t be able to capture motion in studio? Splash photography? I was able to do it with regular TTL speed light but this one doesn’t right? What is the best budget choice which allows up to 1/1000s flash?
