Godox ML60II Bi Review: Best Light for Content Creators? (+ MLP Projection Unit)

Ғылым және технология

In this video I review the Godox ML60II Bi, the predecessor to the popular Godox ML60, with additional bi-color support.
This light is super compact, stylish, and could be the best budget light for KZread, TikTok, and other content creation. The battery handle, carrying case, and other accessories have also been upgraded.
It uses the Godox mount, which has plenty of inexpensive softboxes, along with other modifiers like pop-up silicone diffusers, and the Godox ML Projection Attachment.
Leave a comment and let me know if you think this is the best option for content creators out there.

Ulanzi makes a tiny, 40W COB with an internal battery, although it's a proprietary mount without many options: geni.us/ulanzilt02840w Inkee has the Gold Crow GC60/30, which have internal batteries, and an expandable Bowens mount. Need it with internal battery, i own 3 version I of this lights, i do wedding photography, and i hate to carry a huge pelican case with the lights, the battery plates, 12 npf batteries, reflectors, etc. Do you hace a recommendation for cob led lights (40-60w) that can be controlled with a remote and powered with an INTEGRATED npf battery plate or internal batteries? Something like the smallrig ones but with remote control?

    @@ivan_lomeli I would suggest the Inkee Gold Crow GC60 lights, or the GVM SD80D/S. I did a video on the Gold Crow lights here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mJOp1pOkZZm3g5c.html They have since released a mobile app, and a 30 watt version that's essentially half as long. I think your videos are very good. They are informative because they describe every last detail. I have two Godox lights, the Godox SL150W II, and I am very happy with them. The deviation from the actual WB is almost 100 Kelvin, which is a very good value for my purposes. But the best thing about the lights for me is that the fans can be turned off. I'll now get to the point: thanks to your detailed description of the ML60II Bi LED, I will buy this light. Interesting lighting situations can then be created in conjunction with the two other lights. Thanks again for the video🙂👍

  • @NewLayer

    @NewLayer

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks! And it is only a continuous light. There are very few LED lights that double as strobes, like the Godox FV series, or some lights from Rotolight (which are very expensive). Even then, they are not as bright as even a cheap "real" strobe, and have other downsides, like the flash being different duration than typical flashes, etc. I highly recommend getting separate continuous/flash lights.

    Is there no option to convert the proprietary mount to a Bowens mount? Something like the S2 Bracket

  • @NewLayer

    @NewLayer

    4 ай бұрын

    The S2 bracket worked for the original ML60 because the light itself slides into the bracket, which clamps onto it. The form factor here won't allow that. I'm currently not aware of a Godox-mount to Bowens-mount adapter, and it's definitely a consideration with this light if you have a bunch of Bowens mount modifiers already. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of proprietary mounts, but I mentioned in the video, the Godox-mount specifically is a little different because it has a better selection of modifiers, and they are all really lightweight and cheap, so I see it as a pro for this light in particular.

  • @waisengyan9028

    @waisengyan9028

    4 ай бұрын

    Ahh I see, perhaps Godox's focus is to make this light as compact as possible, rather than be compatible with all the modifiers. But it'll still be nice if they end up making an adapter. It would make this light more versatile, like the original ML60. Thanks for the quick reply! Appreciate it!

    Yeah looks like they are out of stock from the usual US retailers. Looks like it's 2-3 weeks right now if you need the battery grip. I would imagine they'll be re-stocked all over in about a month.

    @@gtwester They were in stock, but the first batch that actually sits in US warehouses always seems very limited. There were 4-5 listings on Amazon yesterday, even though they weren't Prime and presumably shipped from overseas, that are no longer there! I would imagine with the seeming popularity of the light they'll ramp up production ASAP.

    Is this better than ml60 bi?

    It's better in most ways in my opinion. They are different lights, so the original could work better for you in certain scenarios. I reviewed the original ML series here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eXydr9OTadLPgbA.html

    Godox Bi colour lights are way off when measured with a colour meter.

    Way off of what? I've tested multiple copies of probably 25 different Godox lights with my Sekonic C-800, and keep a database of results here: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare Like all lights, Godox lights vary, but they are middle of the road at the least Vs. other brands at similar prices. The copy of the ML60II Bi I have in particular was very, very good in terms of CCT matching what the screen says. The CRI and individual R values were all better than average, and the SSI was right where you would expect it to be for a bi-color light.

    @@NewLayerI'm getting a reading of 4300k but showing 6500k on the control box, which is the highest it goes. This discrepancy applies to both UL150 II Bi and KNOWLED F400Bi light mat. While I can match the light mat with their daylight LEDs, the highest the UL150 can go up to is 6500k (4300k). That's still around 500k from the approximate 4800k reading from their daylight fixtures, according to the colour meter. Thanks for the link!

    @@candyartstv That's very odd, and something has to be off. Out of the ~500 lights I've tested, none have been that far off, regardless of brand. What color meter are you using? There are only a couple that are reliable. Some people DM me about CCT issues with lights, but they are using color meter apps or plug-in meters on their phones, which aren't reliable. Could always test with a white piece of paper and your camera custom white balance, or taking a RAW photo of a white paper and checking on a computer. I can only assume you're measuring without any modifiers in a fully dark room, but I'm very curious to know if you got crazy unlucky with multiple bad units, or what else might be going on.

    @@NewLayer I am currently using the Kenko KCM-3100, which has always been reliable and consistent for me. All of their daylight-only LEDs are not sitting at around 4800k. I checked your database but unfortunately, these LEDs are not listed there. I've contacted Godox and am waiting for their response. I am hopeful that a firmware update can fix this issue.

    Can this be powered via USB-C PD? That is the emerging standard and makes it simple to power accessories with V-Mount batteries or power banks??

    No USB-C, but there is a v-mount specific battery handle. It’s been tough to find sub-100Wh v-mount batteries that support more than 45W via USB-C until very recently. Even the bigger batteries only support 60W really, and this light needs 70W overall. I have some new ZGCINE batteries I want to do a video with for exactly what you’re talking about. I think USB-C will be standard in the upcoming generation of lights, even if they don’t run at full brightness when using it.
