Godox Film Lighting 101 - CABIN IN THE WOODS | EP16

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this episode, Jameson creates a scene inspired by the popular "cabin in the woods" look that has been a proven setting for many iconic horror and thriller films throughout the past few decades. We've all seen horror films when the main character goes against any logic, and finds themselves trapped in a situation that they cannot escape. As an audience we're always saying "No! Don't do it! Get out of there!" But of course, the inevitable always happens. That being said, Jameson will show how to use different lighting techniques using Godox lights to help transform an average cabin into a location with added suspense and haunted horror film vibes.

I've not seen many horror films. One of the few I've seen, I really like is the bollywood movie 'Bhoot'. Its not the cabin in the woods style, but lighting and sound effects is all that has been used to make it horror without any wierd crazy makeups.

Favorite “cabin in the woods” is always changing, now it is the korean The Calm Beyond (2020) by Joshua Wong, dominated by silence and bleak colors and occasional CGI in the first part, to illustrate destruction , the second part, is much more “bubbly” colored and noisy, relatively realistic typical style, of Korean productions. (By the way, nice story telling in your CABIN IN THE WOODS | Godox Film Lighting).

In actual fact. I like your Cabin in the Woods film. I know it's a Godox Film Lighting 101 but the break down of the lighting setup is as epic as it is educational.

"The Hallow" of course! The flashing scene in the forest, when they see only what the flash shows, is soo cool( I saw it in the SAW movie too), but the lights coming from the outside...Now I know, how did they make it! :) and the atmospheric fog is the same piece of kick my brain!

So far, my Favorite "Cabin in the woods" film would be "Hocus Pocus", not quite the horror flick, but start out with that moody candle lit house in the woods. Maintaining the brightness to see everything, but have the proper shadows to lead you to the eerie shelving makes that first area look so nice with the glow from the caldron.

My favorite film about a cabin in the woods is : "Manhunt : Unabomber". The cabin is where all bombs are build and the end of the history. No much windows, not withe a real light but a lot of smoke came from the fire... An heavy atmosphere... Thank for the details about lighting this scene. Il really like godox's lights for flashing or lighting my pictures.

Definitely "Evil Dead 2" for me. So such style, and and perfect blend of horror, and comedy. Even though it's pretty much just a remake of Evil Dead 1, Sam Raimi really went all out with this one.

My favorite “cabin in the woods” film is the horror film “The Strangers” I love dark and moody the film is. The lighting was really low key leaving a lot of mystery in the storyline.

My favorite “cabin in the woods” themed horror film is "Fear street", they create a unique scene by combining several rgb light to build a horror feel and intense scene, I have tried to recreate some of the scene just by a cheap rgb bulb and old Edison bulb, and it will be perfect if I have a real video light like Godox

It's always fascinating to see how a film was lit. Even with just 1 scene, lighting is a very important ingredient--mood setter. In 2021, I have watched the weirdest horror movie for me, the 'A Classic Horror Movie' in Netflix. It is the typical cabin in the woods story, but with a great weird twist. I like the lighting of that movie for it always use red light in every night scene in the said cabin. It's like a one light setup but in a complex way. hahaha Hoping for more of these Lighting 101 episodes, Godox!

My favorite "cabin in the woods" film is THE LIGHTHOUSE. The cinematography and lightning in that film is stunning, because they create a lot of terrifing sequences with just practicals in the scene. How the shadows of a candle in the center of a table creates long shadows of the actors in the walls... at the shame time that the storm is creating flashes of light throw the windows... or the scene in the top of the lighthouse, when the light is spinning during the scene and the light is more terrifing than the shadows... And, of course, the fact that the movie is entirely shot in black and white, it has more merit because all your cinematography depends of your talent of creating light and shadows picture... That movie is just a masterpiece.

Not much of a horror fan but mine would be Doom, the flicking lighting and low lights in combo with hand held light give you that felling something bad is going to jump out at you. The best light set to me was from Star trek, when you see kirk father at the be start on the bridge, with the light shinning in like a spot mixing with the blue tones of the bridge light give the suspense feeling that something is coming

I like Godox but the lighting setup is god awful. Totally unrealistic and way overdone. i've never seen a cyan moonlight and orange lightning. It looks ridiculous. It looks more like someone's flashing a car headlight than a lightning effect because the color is way off and the timing isn't synced to the foley at all. Also, why would you use so much light in a tiny cabin and why would you use anamorphic wide lenses in such a small space it makes zero sense lol. This is one bad habit many cinematographers have, they go way overboard pretty fast when in reality less is more. I'm hoping that this scene was lit for the purpose of demonstrating the products and it wasn't really the personal taste of the cinematographer as the clip looks more like a cold open of a cheesy music video rather than a horror short.
