The God’s Not Dead franchise continues in God’s Not Dead: We the People as Reverend Dave (White) is called to defend a group of Christian homeschooling families. He finds himself taken aback by the interference of the government, and believing that their right to educate their own children is a freedom worth fighting for, Reverend Dave is called to Washington DC to testify in a landmark congressional hearing that will determine the future of religious freedom in our country for years to come.

I’m sure the OP only saw it as cool because it basically just told Christians that they should roll over and let their enemies win instead of standing up and fighting for their beliefs. Such a bad message. Forgiveness is good, but it doesn’t mean letting others just get away burning down your church, killing someone, and then bulldozing what’s left of your church to punish you for their hatred of you. There’s a big difference between forgiving others and letting others abuse you.

    We are so wrapped up in isolation, pride and comfort that any pushback against our beliefs is immediately conflated with persecution. Even these fantasies of persecution pale in comparison to cruelty we have inflicted and continue to inflict upon those deemed sinner and lost. This mindset spits in the face of God and His martyrs, who actually endured persecution at the hand of those who hated the change they preached.

If America's freedom as outlined in it's founding documents errodes, than freedom for the world has been lost. Once there is no longer freedom of self determination here in America, there will be no one to champion for freedom around the world. One day it will end. God literally called all nations and as far as I can see the godlessness in our culture is enough for me to say that American church and culture is starved of God. But okay let’s talk about the “documents” when they say religion will have no part or place in government. Or when biblical principles don’t teach racism, Jim Crow, and slavery yet no one was calling America a godless country. The idolatry of nationalism is toxic.

It’s calling out “Christians” who don’t understand being followers of Christ but only what their skewed perception of that is based on exactly what’s portrayed in this movie-the incorrect assumption that Americans have a hold on “correct Christianity.” Also, I for one enjoyed the first two movies because they definitely had Christian themes. @MasonStrand

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think you’re missing the point of the trailer, respectfully. This isn’t a scenario that IS happening, this is what COULD happen as a result of increasing polarization. There are teachers out there that want to indoctrinate people into their view. In public school, it is less common, but in college/ university level, it is common. It’s a challenge to your views, and it’s something college students actually love, because we get to stand for what we believe in. Doesn’t matter what your faith is, this kind of stuff does happen. In terms of the government, the government is always dangerously close to getting involved in religion- one has to look no further than the Philadelphia vs the catholic adoption service decision last month! So sure, laugh at these movies. They are a little cheesy, but their premises bring up some difficult questions our generation will eventually have to address, and that scares me.

  • @marcbman5821

    @marcbman5821

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@MasonStrand sorry, but your argument is BS. First, the Philadelphia vs catholic adoption service is about a religious organization denying gay couples adoptions because of stupid beliefs. I get it religious freedom and all that crapshoot, but in the case of adoption of children the government should be involved. Religious organizations cannot be trusted to watch themselves...the Catholic Church alone has enough child abuse scandals that would fill the Grand Canyon. However, the main point is that ruling has nothing to do with homeschooling unless your point is the government shouldn't be involved at all. If that's the case, then who should be involved to make sure abuses are being addressed? Because relying on the church to police themselves is so incompetently shortsighted that anyone that believes that is the way to go would also fall into that category. Second, these movies are more than just "cheesy", they are a poor example of Christians and how they are "vilified" by non-Christians. I'm in Indiana, one of the more very Christian states of the US, and I can tell you the things said about non-Christians (this includes Atheists to people of other religions) are very shameful/hurtful. Of course, not all Christians are like that, but what I don't hear is Atheists or other non-Christians targeting Christians and rarely if ever mentioned in a demeaning manner. Unless its speak about the absurdly extreme ways a select few Christians have presented themselves (i.e. calling all gays demons or my favorite believing they should all die).

    A bigger issue is at hand here: In a true free nation, Compulsory education should not exist. Parents should have the final say as to how their children should be educated. That would be no different if the Government forced parents not to send their children to a Religious private school or have them homeschooled according to their religious worldview. That is a First amendment right that the Government has no right to prohibiting religion or the exercise thereof. Separation of Church and State was not written by Thomas Jefferson just to prevent a White Christian Theocracy (if you are rightfully concerned about that). Rather, Separation of Church and State prevents a Government with a more Anti-Theistic worldview from imposing others from practicing their own religion freely.

It’s one of those things any government has to be involved. Also governments had attempted to do just that. State governments to be exact. And what makes it better is that it was Christians (Protestants) doing it to other Christians (Catholics) because they hated Catholics. Oregon passed a law in 1922 called the Oregon Compulsory Education Act requiring students to attend public schools because they didn’t like Catholic schools. And it was struck down by the Supreme Court. We know wayyyyy more and not to mention, FUND every org that takes care of the PERSECUTED church overseas! We have updated statistics of each and every way the church is put to death, beaten, raped, etc worldwide on a monthly basis! We have suffered with them and lived our lives differently to mourn with and take care of them, and we are not pretending to understand their pain, but we WILL point out the awful spiral in our nation as it takes every step that the countries who are heavily persecuted took to get where they are now.
