WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

As a young man of 13 years I watched my grandfather who was a catholic who attended church regularly throughout his life lie on his deathbed in absolute fear, convinced that he was going to hell. He was a good man who did not deserve to go through that suffering in his last days. We must, as Matt says here, let go of these religious constructs.

@Doctor Powers . You’re right, I can’t answer the questions you ask about evolution etc. however why don’t you give me in fine detail, an explanation of how to build a nuclear submarine? Why do you assume that we are all trained biologists? We simply do not believe in a god. End of story. People have spent all their working lives studying the questions you asked. No doubt you will say you’ve read their findings. However that’s bullshit. You are so engrossed in in your fantasy tale that you wouldn’t let anything get in its way. At best you will have given a quick glance to evolutionary explanations. Even if you did study their findings in detail, you still wouldn’t believe them because you’re mind has been poisoned. So give up on your moist rock garbage because you’re asking the wrong people. If you ever asked me about it in the future, I will say the same thing I’ve said here. Tell me how to build a nuclear submarine. Even if you could that would mean you are trained in such a field, which still doesn’t mean that we necessarily have expertise in science. So for you to say that you have destroyed atheists over and over is so wrong and so absolutely childish given what I’ve been talking about above. That’s the same as asking us for every little detail about the construction of a fridge. Most of us are not refrigeration mechanics, so why ask us? Let’s see if you’ve got the guts to ask you a question to the real people. I’m sure you’ll tell us you have, but as usual you will be lying. You haven’t destroyed any atheists, and you never will.

Think of owning a dog. Dogs are a great example because they can learn commands, are empathetic, and display that they know right from wrong behavior. If a dog chewed up your couch and displayed behavior showing he knew he was guilty, would you put him in the basement, beat him constantly, starve him, and do this daily forever? I don't think so. Most people think of their pets as part of the family and would do almost anything to keep them safe, happy and healthy. Yet a God who supposedly made us and loves us would do this as a matter of everyday events for things that are inconsequential to him, you or the world at large.

Ask a Christian to give you three examples of how their belief in God has made them more moral than your average non-believer and they usually can't. What's worse is that no matter what example they try to give of their God given morality, it is breached by God himself somewhere in the Bible.

I love how theists call me immoral for being atheist, but I'm living my life the exact way as most of them, just living my life and minding my own business and not hurting anyone. How does that make me immoral? Just because I don't believe in the same thing as them. That's like saying you're immoral because you like jazz and I like pop so I'm moral and you're not.

Hard as this is to separate, can we pretend just for one moment that there is no bible and no god? So to the believers I say this. If you read a self help book by an author who genuinely believed he had a good explanation on how you should live your life, and he stated that you should follow all the same kind of things that the bible says, what would you say? If you have even an ounce of honesty, you would reject all of those shocking teachings if they came from anyone outside of the bible. Yet you have been so hypnotised as to accept that a god exists who would tell you to do all those highly immoral things.

@Fay Spahmer . Very true Fay. That’s probably the bulk of them although I think there would be a substantial number who believe it for the sake of believing it, even without the eternal threat. Was horrified to hear Richard Dawkins relating a conversation he had with a scientist who also happened to be a believer. He told Richard that even if religion was proven wrong beyond any argument, he would still be a believer. Dawkins said something like, “How can we deal with that sort of lack of intelligence?”

Johns first 30 seconds involved me being whisked away to a magic land, getting judged by an eternal being and that there is no-immoral act in murdering somebody. This is what he said within the first 30 seconds. How in the name of christ am i supposed to Believe that? Imagine pitching this concept to an alien who has never heard of god before. That's how you should approach all things in life. He sounds bonkers.

I just realised that the Christian god being schizophrenic would explain a lot of the inconsistencies in the bible like the sacrificing of himself to himself through a loophole in the laws he created to forgive us for being the way he made us. Being jesus and god while communicating with one another is something that doesn't seem like something a being with one personality could do in a sane fashion, neither is the holy trinity. After all no sane person would ever claim to be perfect.
