I have been skating in NYC since the 80s & 90s when it was not cool to be a black kid from Brooklyn with a skateboard. This makes me so proud, I’m getting choked up typing this. Never stop pushing, NYC stand up!!!

I love how now skateboarding is literally completely diverse, like a lot of sports are really only played by just one or two races, but with skateboarding it’s completely neutral and has an amazing community of tons of different ethnicity’s

A good friend of mine is black and when we used to skate when we were teens (14 years ago), he once told me the other black kids from his neighborhood made fun of him because he would skate with us. Made me sad though...

@@chapchap693 maybe he didnt film the girls doing tricks. Maybe you are right but look at it this way: so many men we saw pass but didnt see do tricks. Does that mean they dont do tricks? Nahhhhh but maybe you are right. Lots of girls start skateboarding later than boys because they are told its a "boy sport" and that they "are too delicate"

BasedKev that’s sick! I went this year and it is an amazing event. You should get to the event a few hours before the event starts. Mark Gonzalez skated from 1:00-2:00 but the event started at 3:00. Also look into other things to do in NYC it’s a great place with lots to do!
