Goat Roping 🐐 2019 Motley Dickens Old Settlers Reunion & Rodeo (Saturday)

Спорт

Goat Roping is very uncommon in the Texas Plains High Plains where cattle dominate livestock production. But I have learned goat production for meat has been increasing in the Texas South Plains where I attended and documented a Goat Roping event for the first time at the 2019 Motley Dickens Old Settlers Reunion & Rodeo annual celebration in Roaring Springs, Texas. #Rodeo #GoatRoping #TeamRoping
This event was not held in the rodeo arena but on the grounds outside the arena and not part of the main rodeos held in the evening.
The Old Settlers Reunion & Rodeo has been an annual celebration for 96 years combining the people and resources of Motley County and Dickens County because the combined population is only about 3,700 people.

The purpose of the event becomes clear to most newbies at the end of the video. And yes, most undomesticated goats will protest just like sheep do when they are restrained for any reason. Ever been around sheep when their wool is shorn for the fiber? The more often they are handled in their lives the more they realize their lives are not in any danger. They are prey animals.

@@DustyReinsStories Watched to the end - they win money? Lived 10 years in Egypt; when you see a goat handled, they usually then get a bath, because it's going to be dead within 30 mins before it gets dirty again, and eaten within the hour if BBQ, or stewed.

@@anotherblonde Yes, the contestants have to pay a fee to enter then the teams with the best times in the event get to keep a major portion of the money pot and then the money is split again for each team member. The rest of the money either goes to charity or the livestock provider. Team ropings using horses and cattle are usually done the same way. Livestock gets much better care, especially medical care, than animals in third world countries. One reason why people live longer in more productive countries. Our animals just have fewer health problems.
