💪 Mike Holly's 'Go To' Carp Rig 💪
Using LITERALLY the same couple of rigs over two rods for a couple of seasons, Mike has caught a whole host of incredible BIG carp. Easily used as a bottom bait, wafter or pop-up presentation, this rig has great hooking properties, doesn't require shrink tube, and the Slip-D aspect allows easy change of hook in between fish. Coupled with the awesome Tungsten Loaded Semi-Stiff for longevity, there is no suprise why it is Mike's 'go-to' rig.
Here is how to tie it!

Absolutely smashed this spring with this rig
Thank you for sharing. Very well explained. Will defenitly try this rig out.
I've used a rig very similar to this about 2 years. I love the quick change option it gives (like with a multi rig). In my case I've used a kicker in order to lock the D instead of Silicone tubing but the tubing might very well be better to be honest cause I'm guessing that will grip the D a bit tighter and therefore maybe prick the fishes mouth a little bit harder. Kicker works though. I've mostly used it with small baits such as tigernuts and dumbell wafters.
Top rig Mikey! Just got back from France after putting all 3 rods on this rig trying different presentations. My 55lb mirror fell to a pineapHell pop up with monster red and particle. Doing it for the SW. cheers mucker
Fantastic 👏 The rig video I've been looking for!
Just wanted to say how impressed I am with your hooks, started to use the grippers and the chod hammers this season. The hook points are mega sharp out of the packed no need to sharpen. On to the rig just tied one with the gripper and shrink tube and again mega impressed can't wait to get out Friday to try it out

I use slip d in my solid bag fishing and on my wafters like the idea of the tubing good little edge as you say we can clearly see looks deadly with a snowman 🎣🎣

Think I might give this a whirl. I like to use new rigs for every session, and have a cacophony of rigs in my board, some used, some not, some, who knows. This would simplify my fishing: What's not to like about that? All I'd need is a bunch of different length boom sections, then I can select a hook and a bait mounting method. It's similar to my favourite german rig, mechanically Job done.
This has been my go to rig for years, tied exactly the same, but personally I prefer a size 4 longshank hook
Bin using this rig a while now and it nails the fish every time. Popped up or wafting
Best rig ever 👊 especially combined with a trig-hammer
Hi Mike, great video mate, will this rig work with size 10 & 12 hooks, and do I need to alter the tubing length or anything else on the rig Dave
Saw this years ago from Mark Bryant, used it since and love it!
damn this is so easy, can't wait to make them and start test them! thanks for the video!
Amazing rig that gives the same qualities as the slip d but on a friendly student budget. However when is your tubing coming into stock as I can't find it anywhere
Lovely looking rig definitely one I'm gonna try soon. Do you have any issues with slippage if using a clipped on bag?
Can’t believe how easy this rig is to make
A sharp hook and a hookbait they want. Thats all youneed. Not over complicated rigs. I fish for river carp , just strong reliable simple end tackle
What size & pattern hook were you using btw a Curve 4 maybe ?
I find it interesting that some rig philosophies completely contradict each other yet both work. Take, for example, the difference between this rig, and a standard bottom bait wafter rig. The idea of using a critically balanced wafter rig is for the hook to be super light and go farther back into the fishes mouth. In contrast, this rig adopts the idea of using added weight (putty) and a heavy hookbait to pull into the fishes lower lip. Both kinds of rigs would be fished in the same scenarios, both kinds of rigs do really well, but they have completely different approaches. This makes me want to see more high quality underwater footage testing different rigs like this.

They all contradict each other to create maximum manies in the pocketos. Take the Ronnie for example, showing the hook to be almost vertical. Yet in another rig video it’ll state no nooooooo the hook MUST be floating more horizontal, and just about every angle in between 🙄🙄🙄 Top sales pitches all round

The concept for me and why I use it is a hook that swings below any bait, like a claw mate. Then the force of the bait being blown down the shank certainly helps set the hook, even when carp arent moving to tighten up the hook links. :)
Amazing informative video! Would this rig work with solid bag fishing if I shorten the length? Cheers
I take it when you catch a fish the loop with travel down the shank and stop at the eye? knocking the tubing off the hook. Most slip d rigs are fixed at the hook. If that makes sense

Hi Mate, I've never had any issues at all, in fact I've just got back from a European trip and I've been using it with a 24mm bottom bait and 15mm topper, tight and the big fish are always hooked perfectly also. It's down to the D not being pulled to far back I feel mate so the bend of the hook is always heavy and hanging down like a claw. Good luck with it.

Hi Mike, been getting some bank time with slip Ds and this multi version. Would you also use this for a bottom or double bottom bait? Something you seem to do different to most is stop the d in line with the point. Which actually makes perfect sense to me, however where would you position it if using a double bottom bait (no buoyancy) further down hook? Near bend
@BaitworksTV
Жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, sorry for the delay, I use it exactly the same with all baits, pop ups (rarely use them) right through to baits hard on the deck, the rig has always performed really well. I like the hook bend to be heavy, I find D's further down the shank prevent this, hope that helps mate.
is this better then a regular hair rig?
Really loved this rig when I first saw it but the downside is you can't really use pva mesh with it. Also find the soft D needs taping to guarantee no tangles on cast. Do you not worry that the braid section is suffering abrasions and ware and tare from the hook eye area. I tested a few times and definitely caused some whispyness
@BaitworksTV
2 жыл бұрын
Yes mate, sadly I can't use a large PVA bag on the hook but little walnut sized ones are fine, the 0.75mm tube is tight and snug so keeps the D in place. Never had any issues with the abrasions, ever with the hooks I use. I've used the same hook link, the actual one for over a year with some incredible battles, never had an issue.

@@BaitworksTV oh hey Mark, yes I know you like this rig as well. Albrighted to fluro if I remember right 🤔 that's good about the abrasions, I used the esp tungsten loaded with muggas and definitely found the braid was getting pulled into that tiny sharpish part of the eye where it finishes off (if that makes sense) used some other braids that seem better for this. Fab rig, would be my go to if just fishing single wafter and more likely to use when expecting to change hook often. I barely catch so not so necessary :) awesome bait btw

Is this not Nigel Sharps rig from years back, with just a kicker on the eye of the hook?
I've been carp fishing since the 1980's and trust me, sharp hooks are needed, but do not believe what these people tell you about swapping the hook every catch, cast or sh1t you have. They only say it on line as they get free hooks for saying this.
I like how we get crap for using the imperial system over the pond but you guys still use it, too 😂
Hi mare which hook are you using and size please
Hi I've just started carp fishing and want to try this rig but I'm not sure how you attach the boilie to the link on the hook ,what should I use ?
@ESPCarpgear
Жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas.. To attach a bait, you want to thread some bait floss through the little swivel which is attached to the hook. You then put your bait on a baiting needle, straight through the centre, and then with the same needle pull the two strands of floss through the centre of the bait. Then you want to put your hair stop on top and tie a few knots in the floss trapping the hair stop. Hopefully this helps..
Great video. Just tried to make the rig. I am really struggling to fit 0.75mm silicone over the eye of a hook. And I've tried several hooks 😫

Have you tried wetting it? It is tight but should go on fairly easily. If it is a fresh piece of silicone maybe give it a good stretch first so it is a bit more 'worn in'. Mike is using a big hook here and it goes on ok so should be easier for size 6's etc.
