Go "Stripped" or Loaded? | 2022/2023 Hyundai Kona Electric Trim Comparison

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With the new Inflation Reduction Act stripping certain electric cars of eligibility for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit, it is more important now to really consider the delta in price between base and fully-loaded trims of the "less expensive" offerings out there. In this particular case, the Hyundai Kona Electric has a relatively narrow price range, but can you get away with a well-equipped model by skipping the over-$40,000 Limited trim? And further, is the Kona Electric even worth the current hassle involved in getting your hands on one? Let's see if any of that makes sense in 2023 when a totally-new 2024 model will be here later this year...

The Ioniq 5 is not $2,000 more. With the dealer markups it's more like 8-12 grand more than the Kona.

My wife and I looked at these fairly recently, comparing a Kona to the Bolt and Leaf (as a "budget" second car). We liked the Kona the best (perfect size, good drive, quality feel), but for us the big whammy is the adaptive cruise control can only be had on the top trim. Then add the $5k our local (Portland, Oregon) dealers are STILL adding, and you're almost to $50k. For that coin, I'm definitely going with another make and / or model.

@@RISCGames I wouldn't argue if it were only $7500 extra, but my point is, if you want adaptive cruise control, around here you're looking at about another $20,000. Would you pay $20,000 more for a Kona than a Bolt? Not me!

I like that the format of the video content is changing or adjusting to better present the information. That's good. I'm not too sure about the BGM though. Not the selection itself but just the fact that there is BGM. Honestly the information itself is good enough without BGM. Maybe it's only me but I don't find the BGM necessary. The BGM kind of detracts from the wealth of information provided. Just my opinion. The camera focusing in on the mentioned features is already a good method to direct viewers to what is being said verbally. It's something that AoA (and EV Buyers Guide) has already been doing for a long time anyway. The BGM just means you have to slightly turn up the volume to hear what is being said.

Nott of these wil fit my needs for my family's next vehicle... But I would take Bolt EV LT as that seems to be alot of car for cheap... Which that argument at the end sounds tthe same as why would you ever by a BRZ over a mustang GT both are sports cars one gets way more features but not a V8.

So at 100 KWH this charges twice as fast as either Bolt, but still slow. Is there some technical reason that these vehicles, with smaller batteries, charge slow?

Kona is significantly smaller than Ioniq 5 which may be exactly what someone needs in town or for their garage. It’s not the best road tripper but will do in a pinch, especially compared to Bolt EV. Way too pricey though!

Base Hyundai IONIQ 5 makes a ton of sense to me vs the Kona. But the used electric car bargain right now in that same price point is a used Model 3 from Tesla. They were dipping into the $29k range if you’re willing to travel nationwide to pick it up. SC network access with reduced range and cargo capacity I think favors the M3 but it depends if you can handle driving around in a used early year Model 3 with high mileage.
