I have been in the general area too! As you leave St. George, UT towards NV there is a road you can take running which departs from a residential area. It quickly becomes completely undeveloped and full of an amazing variety of desert plants. It's a good paced highway that constantly snakes through mild canyons. I've taken it several times. Once I got off course onto dirt roads that deteriorated severely. I actually got stuck and hiked out to I-15 in 107 degrees brutal heat. I became severely dehydrated. Once I reached civilization I drank an insane amount of Gatorade, water, Juices and milk shakes for 14 straight hours before I peed a drop!

Another fantastic video! The snow added another level of beauty to the desert. Interesting: two vids ago, you were standing on the peak of a monolithic slab mountain in Utah where there was only about 1 square yard to stand on, spinning around to get the 360 and then looking straight down about 500 feet. Made me queasy just watching it! I was clutching the arm of the sofa to make sure I didn't accidentally fall off! Today, you were uneasy about taking the Land Cruiser down a steep grade, which I'd do in a hearbeat! I guess we all have our kryptonite....

Thank you! Long time fan here. I appreciate any and all comments you share about how rough the roads you travel are because I have an AWD Honda CRV hybrid. I opted for the excellent gas mileage to better get across the country, but I can’t access many places you do. I’m not a fan of regular campfires either…it doesn’t take much use of a place in the SW before dead wood is completely used up near campsites, and it just doesn’t regenerate fast enough. Instead I starwatch or go to bed and read. Keep the videos coming and happy trails!

As a resident of Mesquite I'm thankful for this video as I never knew about Quail Canyon. I will definitely be checking that out very soon! Also just a note for the future. You took the long way to Keyhole Arch. Had you gone past the dam on Watertower Ln. you could have driven right to the arch. That looks like a really cool place to explore! The rock you point out seems like it could be part of a crinoid fossil....? The interesting texture you point out is probably due to cherty limestone....maybe....? Speaking of limestone slots....I don't think you've done a video on it yet - maybe you have and I just missed it - but there's a cool little limestone slot canyon near the Notch Peak trail head. Just be sure to bring a rope as you can't get to the end without one. I still need to go back and finish that slot!

Tristan, you are just so friggin cool. Seriously. I love your vids. I've lived in St. George Utah before, twice in fact. For a total of about 7 years. I thought I knew all the good hiking spots nearby but in this vid you taught me about two more. The slot and the arch. I live in Las Vegas Nevada now so I'm DEFINITELY gonna make it a point to go see the sights in this vid. Thank you! You rock!

Great video ... the snow really makes everything look surreal. Heading SW in about 10 days with the new rig .. probably work my way around Death Valley .. and I'm going to try to stay out for 10 days. 🤠

What a cool hike to do in the winter. It amazes me how similar yet different slot canyons can be. Now that temperatures are moderating here in Pa, I'm looking forward to warmer hikes. Tristan, please excuse this query but you haven't responded to my comments lately. Did I say something that annoyed you? If so, I apologize for any miscues.

Tristan, if you get out to the Mecca Hills near Salton Sea in southern California, hike Ladder Canyon. It is a slot canyon with ladders for getting up those rock steps like where the rope was. I think there are about 12 ladders on a 5 mile loop trail very similar to this hike, slot canyon up to a headlands and circle back to the car. Check it out.

My favorite part is the gnarly Limestone slot canyon. Great video!

While I like to do a loop hike also, my experience with slot canyons is that they look totally different coming and going. So… I probably would have turned around. I love your videos. I tell everyone I know who enjoys the outside about it. I wish you more subscribers!

Nice video The St George area is very nice. We ate at the same Indian Restaurant. Excellent. We camped in Dameron for a couple weeks. Was hoping you would visit the area called the Vortex, just outside Dameron. Incredible rock formations and swirling large holes in the rock. Hope you can visit that some time. By the way…skip the cinder cones out there. Too steep and slippery. That lava rock is sharp.😊 Thanks again!
