My thoughts exactly...

This is great for a number of reasons. 1st This band was pure energy with no dance rehearsals, 2. They captured the innocence of the 80s perfectly 3. They had no pretense or ego here. Just a great moment to catch for tv eternity.

I miss being a teenager in the 80s, great music and great times

The performance may not have been live but the audience certainly was!

Chubby Belinda was a bombshell

We got the beat being chosen as the song to open Fast Times at Ridgemont High was huge for that first Go Go's album. Those 2 just went hand-in-hand in 1982.

The Best days of Music! Long Live the 80's! The people on AB were watching the GoGo's Live as they danced in the stands there. Even the guys were dancing🕺& of course Drooling over the Beautiful GoGos. I was 📺watching AB this day in 1982, as Most All teens & young adults had their eyes glued to AB every Saturday, ( unless we had a job, & most of us did). We knew The GoGo's were going to be on AB, as there were advertisements during the week. My kids nor my grandkids know the Excitement of shows like American Bandstand.

I remember this when it first aired. The audience was going crazy!! We Got the Beat peaked at #2.🎵🎶 Poor Dick (RIP).He called Gina (the drummer🥁)"Jan". Miss Bandstand Good times..🎶🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎶💿🎸🎹🥁

Love the 80s and the Go-Go’s. What an awesome time to grow up.

IRS gave REM a chance too. Both opened for the Police back in the early 80's. All I can say about this video is how much I miss Dick Clark's class.

Loved these ladies!! Was a teenage boy, and was head over heels in love with Belinda and Jane and Gina and Kathy and Charlotte!!They were on top of their game at this time, even though Belinda was coked out of her head, LOL oh the 80’s!! God how I miss this era!!!! Best of all time

Me, too Cartoons 1st, then American Bandstand and then Soul Train on WGN SuperStation then at nighttime it was Hee Haw, SOLID GOLD, America's Top 10 and ended the night with Night Tracks on SuperStation WTBS Atlanta The Good ol' Days of Television

We Got the Beat is such a simple song and beat but what a great song, especially when you turn it up in your car !!

Brilliant! Amazing in everyway. The Go Go's finally put to sleep that outmoded idea that women could not rock, they sure could! These women were masters at their craft, creating insanely catchy, syncopated beats and rhythms.

So did Fanny and the Runaways before them.

I loved the Go-Go's and went to see them in concert around 85 or 86. I got the first ticket to the concert based on the number on the ticket. What was really sad and embarrassing was that there were probably less than 2000 people in a 13,000 seat arena. The band played along like professionals but I felt sorry for them the whole time.

2 of my favorites. .. and we tore that $#!+ up.. GoGos rocked .

These songs bring back so many great memories. I need a time machine to go back to these times.

I can't help but love watching this performance on A.B.S. I mean, there's so much energy and excitement not only from the Go Go's, but the audience as well. Yeah, they look like goofballs dancing around, but look how much fun they're having! The Go Go's music does just that! Fun music and great times. I definitely would've been a dancing goofball too had I been there. 😉

It might not seem like it because of the obvious lip-synch performance, but a glass ceiling was shattered when this episode of "American Bandstand" aired back in 1982. Jane's words were prophetic: the success of The Go-Go's paved the way for every girl rock band that came afterward. Whether they want to or not, every grrl band from The Bangles to The Pussycat Dolls and even Japan's Shonen Knife owe a big debt of gratitude to The Go-Go's for blazing the trail. :)

I think The Runaways did more for women in rock (Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Micki Steele). You did say rock, and the Go-Go's are not rock but POP. Still, the Runaways did more for music than the Go-Go's, so lets put proper credit where it's due.

I was 23 or 24.... Was seeing this girl who had tickets to their concert at the Greek Theatre in I think '85.... Wow, what a concert.... What a memory !!!! Now, I'm a 58 year old fart.... Where in the hell did time go ????? 🙄

They are a fascinating band. So glad they put out such awesome tunes.

On this day in 1957 {August 5th} the Philadelphias-based 'American Bandstand' debut on the ABC-TV network... The first record that was played was the Crickets' "That'll Be The Day" {peaked at #1 for 1 week on Sept. 23rd on Billboard's Best Sellers chart}... And the first two live performers were Billy Williams and The Chordettes; Mr. Williams sang "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" {it peaked at #3} and The Chordettes did "Just Between You and Me" {it reached #8} ...

Fantastic band!

When they were interviewed, they seemed shy and modest. At the same time, they were very professional and knew what their music was all about. To modern young women, who don't seem to know what real (and attractive) feminine demeanor looks like. That was it.

Just a great time era...

And now in the rock and roll hall of fame.

Even tho being born in 81 I’m glad I’m able to know I was alive when people still had sense to know good music

Glad to see they got inducted in The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

It's the Go-Gos...who cares if they lip-synched? Every act lip-synched on AB, other shows back then. We didn't have social media, other means to see these artists often so to sit Saturday morning to witness these chicks or others perform meant something. It was about fun and the music. That is something that is lost now.

Such classic rock songs! They have become fixtures. Lively, energetic performance.

At one point he had a show on all 3 networks at different time slots. $25,000 Pyramid on CBS Mon-Fri mornings, Bloopers and Practical Jokes on NBC Tuesday nights and this on ABC. Saturday midday.

I miss American Bandstand! It was a great show and we got to see so many great groups and singers. Who cares that they lip sync'd the songs, it was totally awesome and fun!! Like ya'know?!

Lip syncing is fraudulent. I never understood the 'logic' of flying a band out to appear on a television show just to have them mime to a backing track.

Wouldn’t be born for another 3 years but grew up with all of this, so grateful to be from the 80s

now....going into the Rock n roll hall of fame

Not the first. Check out Fanny, circa 1970, on Warner Bros. Records for about 3 or 4 albums!

yep, in 2020, still listening a few times a year to some Go-gos, primarily Beauty and the Beat's tracks....but i will always love how this rock band sets a studio audience almost entirely dancing like fanatics, and their banshee screams are great....incredible.

these songs sound so beautiful! they are/were so talented.

First time I had seen the group actually playing these two songs (or lip synching). They were growing in popularity, but blew up huge after this show.

These were the good ole innocent day's!! Home's were homey, holiday's were cozy, and street's were safe to walk in!! And the music speak's for itself!!
