I was lucky enough to meet her at a concert at Irvine Meadows in the early 80's. I am 54 and it makes me frustrated and sad to see comments like this. I bet you were between 16 and 24 when the Gogos were popular, and those years are your comfort zone and you won't venture outside of it. There is fantastic music in every single decade. There is also complete garbage in every single decade. Look at ANY top 40 chart from ANY year, and you will see complete garbage on it. Top 40 is like McDonalds - not premium quality stuff, but it is a representation of the average taste of consumers. I am hesitant to suggest any bands because I imagine your mind is already made up about them before even hitting play, but why don't you check out a few tunes from The Beths? Fun, upbeat rock music. Great harmonies. Talented players. And that is just one band. There is ALWAYS great music out there. You just have to be willing to listen to it and look outside of the Spotify top 40 for it.

Reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson with Lethal Bizzle. Crowd: what the fuck is this? Me if I was there: One of the greatest girl rock bands of all time. Glad they are finally in the hall of fame. Truly deserved it.

Man, Kathy Valentine is an absolute rock! Everybody is playing well here, but the bass is the anchor for this show's whole set.

I was lucky enough to meet her at a concert at Irvine Meadows in the early 80's. My girlfriend and I were sitting rather high up in the seats below the lawn when these two people walked up and sat in front of us. I instantly recognized Kathy and her date... Clem Burke, the drummer from Blondie. At one point they turned around and chatted with us. Great memory.

@@danberkman8227 Love Kathy's bass lines. But speaking as a bassist myself going from guitar to bass is like going from playing a drum set to playing tambourine. It's not that difficult of a transition.
I'm glad this is really live and not a lip synch performance show (like Top of the Pops or Solid Gold) that was so popular in England and the States back in the 80s. They sound great!

As I remember, the Tube was always live. If you want to see a great live performance on TotPs, hunt up John Otway doing Really Free. He went so off script they couldn't put a pre-recorded track over it.

same here. Saw them in the summer of 82 while in college, about to enter Junior year. The crowd was crazy. The ratio was about 70% to 30% girls to boys. And they all looked great, channeling their own Go-Go's look.

Saw them down at Duke University in the fall of 1982. Just terrific. A Flock of Seagulls was so good. God, I can't believe that's almost 40 years ago. As a side note, I could watch Belinda Carlisle dance, like she did in the early 80s, all night long.
Gina is a really SOLID drummer! A band can't get any farther than their drummer can take them--in their case, to the RnRHoF.

Not really, they're often flat/sharp as with a large percentage of live acts. If they did a vocal take like that in the studio it would be scrapped. That's why a lot of artists used to spend a week or more laying down a vocal track for one song.

They were brilliant. Live, fitness, vocals, understanding of their respective instruments. Bridging the gap between punk from the 70s and more modern music, ( New Wave? ) from the 80s. They were bouncy and youthful and bursting with ideas and energy. Brilliant stuff.

Exactly. I wish their albums had more of their punk, new wave vibe. You can still feel it, but it's hidden behind a pop veneer.
Why are people surprised about the audience? The Gos-Gos are from California, this is the North of England. Try to imagine an audience full of Noel and Liam Gallaghers. Also British/European audiences never used to whoop and holler for an act, that's only a more recent phenomenon imported from the U.S. during the 90s.
