Go Fre or Live Nuud? What do you prefer? LifeProof Fre vs. LifeProof Nuud for the iPhone 7

If you go Nuud, you won't be as Fre. Literally. You can do way more with the LifeProof Fre than you can with the Nuud. Why? Because of a wrist-strap! Seriously?
Both of the LifeProof Nuud and LifeProof Fre are cases that are drop rated to MilStd 810g and waterproof up to 2m. Both are LifeProof cases so broken cases will be replaced fairly easily. So what’s the difference? I've got four of them. How did I come up with them? From doing in-depth reviews for both cases. Check out those videos if you need more info for each product. The 4 differences are in no particular order and after going through those differences, I’m going to give you a few tips to help you choose the right case for you.

Here are the four differences that we've come up with:
1. The obvious difference is that the Nuud has no screen protector and the Fre does. If screen viewability is a high priority, you might go with the Nuud. The Fre’s screen protector will diffuse the iPhone’s screen and if you’re picky, you might even notice the gap between the screen and the case. However, the higher edges on the Nuud reduces the chance that you’ll get to your control panel on the first try.
2. The Fre can be attached to your body through a wrist strap. The Nuud will go do it’s thing. This is an important detail for those looking to use their iPhone in awesome things. Awesome things include swimming, climbing and stuff that might incur bodily harm. Basically, if you trip and fall with the Nuud, your iPhone is going to fly away.
3. There is a bit handling difference between the two cases. Previous versions of the Nuud handled quite similar to the Fre but over the last few iterations, the Nuud has taken its own design. A smooth design. Like a smooth, polished, river rock. A smooth, polished, river rock that handles like a wet bar of soap. The Fre on the other hand has a bit more texture and handles quite well when wet.
4. The last difference is the protection that each case offers your iPhone. Despite both cases having the same drop and water protection, the Fre is a tougher case. Why? Because it comes with a screen protector. Which is quite tough as we found out with the iPhone 5 and 6 versions of the case. LifeProof use to include an optional screen protector for the Nuud but mine didn’t come with it.
From a sound perspective, the Fre sounded just a bit better but both cases will suffer a bit of muting, like every waterproof case out there. In general, you will be able to take calls with the case if you install it properly.
So which case should you get? If you go Nuud, you you aren’t as Fre. Why? Because you won’t be able to do as much with the Nuud. The exposed screen can’t take a face first drop onto an uneven surface like the Fre can.
I would get the Fre case if I knew I was going to be doing a lot of outside activities. Being able to keep my iPhone attached to me while I take pictures in precarious positions makes more sense to me. The Fre also provides the most protection between the two cases.
For me, the Nuud doesn’t make much sense. It is a tough, drop-rated case that exposes the part of the iPhone that breaks the easiest. It’s like having a window less bullet proof car? It’s like having a band aid with a hole cut out where the wound is?
Now when would I get the Nuud? Well, first of all, if you didn’t know any better and you’re at the Apple Store? The most obvious reason would be the lack of screen protector. I'm guessing you're a person that can’t stand having anything between your finger and the iPhone but still need the protection. If this is you, the Nuud is going to be better than the Dog and Bone Wetsuit.
The other thing would be the actual texture of the case. For my scoring system, I rate how much texture a case has to gauge it’s one-handed usage. Now the back of the Nuud is incredibly slick but that’s on purpose. I know Otterbox, which owns LifeProof, also does this with the clear symmetry. It feels VERY smooth, it feels like a polished piece of plastic.

It is a shame Lifeproof charges ANOTHER 30.00 for a screen protector when on the previous iPhone 6 model it was included. I stick with the fre, it is an awesome case but if they included the screen protector on the nuud I would get that

My lifeproof fre just recently arrived and I'm enjoying it! After a day though I realised that sound is a little more muffled than usual which is a small problem. I guess I'll just use the EarPods to listen to music and doing other stuff.
Fre. The nuud one is hard to use because the screen stands up. It also cracks and scratches

Hey I'm not sure if you are up to potentially ruining an iPhone screen but the Otterbox defender for the iPad Air 2 has an issue and I would like to know if it happens on the phone cases. On my space gray iPad Air 2 on the home button where the plastic membrane is there is now a permanent square smudge around the button and I think it's the oleophobic costing being removed from that material but I'm unsure. Maybe review the Otterbox for the 7-7plus (I have the plus) and run the usual tests but keep an eye out for the smudge.

Did you find it was incredibly hard to press the home (non)button one handed on the Fre? I've had this with a couple cases that cover the home button (Tech21 waterproof case, Griffin Survivor Extreme), I'm guessing it's a problem with the button more than the case...

Won't be buying another Fre once I get a new phone. Functionally, it worked fine for me (Galaxy S6). It is/was waterproof, protected the phone in nasty drops on concrete and other hard surfaces and wasn't *too* cumbersome for a waterproof case. However: I've only used it when on fishing-trips and I only took two of those in the time I've had the Fre. All in all, I've used the Fre for 7 weeks in 22 months. On the second trip a few weeks ago, the little plastic "bridge" between the charging-port-cover and the home-button broke in half and then off. The cover still closes and stays shut, but I'm not sure I would want to submerge the case in water now. Plus: Yeah... sound quality is pretty much non-existent with the Fre, which makes it nearly impossible to hear incoming calls. And the fingerprint-sensor only works about 50% of the time, something which is never an issue with the S6's home button in an "uncovered" state.
Do you know if any of the waterproof cases allow for a Qi adaptor to fit? I know a lot of regular cases are slim enough but I've no clue about cases like Lifeproof or Catalyst

I had a Fre for my 5s and it shattered my screen within a week, so definitely can't take face-down falls on uneven ground either. Got a Nuud and it was the best case ever, never had a problem. I just don't feel like dropping $100 on a Nuud for my iPhone 7
They really improved with the fee 7 plus, idk about the regular 7. I purchased the 6s fre and quickly exchanged it for the nuud because the screen was a real nuisance. But the 7 plus fre is awesome! The screen protector doesn't bother me at all! It attracts dust and shit which can get annoying but I'm definitely not going nuud this time

After having both for years the nuud is sooo much more durable... the fre wore away and failed to protect my phone in the water
But the wrist-strap isn’t included, correct? And btw, the nüüd includes a screen protector. Why get a waterproof case for the iphone 7 when the iPhone 7 is water resistant. That’s the whole point of a waterproof case, for a non-water resistant smartphone.

I'd stay with teh Fre for the iPhone 6. If you get an iPhone 7, the Nuud might be worth considering.

I had the Nuud for my iPhone 6 Plus, so naturally when I purchased my iPhone 7 Plus, I ordered the Nuud w/Alpha Glass; I truly regret that decision. The Alpha Glass does not completely fill the screen opening and looks rather odd when in the case. Additionally, the back of the case does a poor job of displaying my jet-black phone, it is also a finger print magnet and I cannot keep it clean. I'm not sure why this plastic is different from that used in the 6 and 6S models (perhaps coating), but I wish they would go back to the original design and material, but with a different recharge port door that doesn’t constantly break. I also hate that they got rid of the rubberized covering on the upper and lower ends of the rear panel of the case. This means the phone will come in direct contact with any surface you lay the phone on and will eventually show scratches. Furthermore, I received the case defective (crack and subsequent gap at power button) and Life Proof wanted to charge me shipping cost for a replacement. I adamantly protested, arguing they could not possibly expect me to pay shipping costs for the replacement of a defective case; thankfully they relented. I have no idea what is going on at Life Proof, but this is totally unacceptable on so many levels. While I absolutely love my iPhone 6 Plus case, I'm not sure if I will purchase another Life Proof product in following this experience. Aaron, can you please recommend an iPhone 7 Plus case? I would like one of similar quality to the Nuud for the iPhone 6 Plus and 6 S Plus? Since I have the jet black, I would also like a clear back and waterproof capabilities to seal out dirt. A built-in screen protector is not necessary, but will be considered if you recommend it. Thanks for your recommendation.

I say NUUD, I like how it looks more. The FRE looks kinda cheap on the front face side, and my biggest con for the FRE? What do you do if you start scratching your screen protector or when your thumb (or finger) that is regularly moving in one spot (Like scrolling) starts leaving permanent marks on your screen?.. I prefer knowing if it gets too messed up I can just buy a new screen protector for the NUUD oppose to a whole new FRE case to fix the scratches. Just my opinion, both are great and I used to have a FRE and I loved it, can't wait to get a NUUD for my iPhone 7 Plus!

No. They removed the attachment point on the 6 version of the case.

I've had all three types...Catalyst, Dog & Bone and LifeProof, at one time or another. The Catalyst is the best feeling case. The Dog & Bone feels incredibly cheap and not worth the $80 they want for it. As for screen protectors...I've always had a tempered glass screen protector and they have fit under all of them. They say it can compromise the seal...but let's be real...the average person does not put their phone under water. It's a preventative measure.

Maybe. Every case but the Impact came apart during a 5 ft drop with a naked iPhone. I don't imagine it being better with the extra thickness in the case.

I would never sacrifice sound quality on a daily basis for a waterproof case.
The nuud is really a joke from lifeproof. IT should never have been on sale seriously
The Fre annoys me with the rainbow effect on the screen protector wish they would fix that till they do its the Nuud for me.

Michael Teague Jr I can't stand all the dust that goes inside. I ended up buying tech 21 warrrproof case. It was only 50 bucks copare to the nuud for 75 bucks.
took me 3 weeks to get 3k views on my comparison vid. this guy does it in 1 day. so hard to compete
I liked the Fre up until the felt on the front started to fall off, and the mute switch rubber began to break. Nuud avoids this, so Nuud for me.

Mine works fine but I’ve heard that some have speaker and audio problems from a defect in the case.
Life proof is a bitch like come on why do you have to pay more for the Nuud screen protected when it used to come with the case so you might as well get the fre if you wanna save money
The FRE sucks, the flimsy plastic 'screen protector' on the front is a joke not to mention it totally ruins the quality of the display, adds a ton of glare

Get the nuud people. After a week with the fre, their cheap screen protector will be scratched and destroyed. Especially if you live near sand like in florida. I'm close to being done with lifeproof all together.
