Refeal Ibazeta They have a certain presence about them. Really proud to have been the custodian of this one ☝️
Just completed a full engine rebuild, even managed to find a 76 year old NOS crankshaft for it!
Still, this truck is used for timber transportation in the mountainous or rural areas of Gangwon Province and Chungcheongbuk Province in South Korea.
Very nice sounds , take your time when shifting and double clutch it
Gorgeous, i hope you keep her in good shape and store her in a warehouse those army trucks are very rare....
Cool. I just bought a 1943 gmc cckw 2.5 tonne truck. I can't wait to drive it now !

carl westernut Soft or hard cab? It’s a time machine, especially when you get into 5th gear 😎 I’ve just done a full rebuild on my engine so I’ll post a new video as soon as she’s back on the road.

@@1949bug im pretty sure its the soft cab with the half doors. Im flying up there to see it tomorrow (saturday). Im curious to see if the winch on it works. As for being a time machine , i agree. Theres something about the older technology that appeals to me. Cheers from Australia.

@@carlwesternut2434 Fast was it not at all. 65km/h??? But there was another vehicle,not being second to GMC...that was the Dodge WC,as you damn well know!!! Those were the times!!!!!
I would love to have one for driving in the July 4th parade.

LPGamer24 Hi Hope you enjoyed the Essex countryside. Sorry about the camera angle, I was most annoyed on playback that it did not get the truck in the picture. As soon as the winter eases off and the salt is gone I’ll make a better video. Cheers
I love these trucks..which served in the War. How is their ascending prowess on inclined surfaces,loaded & unloaded?

John Chandra V. There very underpowered vehicles even considering their unladen weight. Hills take a lot of forward planning and exact timing or you’ll not make it to the top smoothly. I can see now why the ‘red bull express’ drivers used to drive flat out everywhere
Excellent!

Roger Alsop Sorry to hear that. I’m sure she will sell it’s just a case of if I’m ready to let her go
My first pickup was a '72 Custom 10 long bed with a 270 V-6 and a 3-speed manual tranny - complete with long arm Hurst shifter - sounded just like this, slow as heck, but you could load it down and the acceleration was no different than empty - enough torque to pull an I-beam out of a concrete wall if you could get enough traction...

Eric & Elisa Hammond Wright Yes it’s definitely a unique sound. I’ve just spent the last year doing a full engine rebuild on her so it was very rewarding to hear her again. I’ve taken the decision to put her up for sale
Hope your still planning on more CCKW videos it's been a difficult time all-around since late 2019 .
THAT, BUMPER THO. xD

Convoy speed for these was about 35mph during WWII....

Having lived with this old girl, I fully understand the motto. “If in doubt....flat out” 35mph is bloody fast when your driving this truck, let alone being shot at! If you’ve driven a cckw....you’ll know all about the “death wobble” above 35mph. It’s an eye opener 😜
@1949bug

35mph in this feels like 100mph in any modern vehicle 🤪
You should bring it to the October 2022 Great Smoky Mountain Convoy. See HISTORY in MOTION magazine of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association.

Tennessee is a long way from England and even further from Austria , where this Gmc cckw 353h1 now lives in a museum. Will check out the videos of the great smoke 👍
What was the HP (measured different today than back then), about 80 or so?
@1949bug
3 жыл бұрын
It was either 91.5 or 104hp depending on the carb tune/regulator Either way it was/is not enough for such a heavy truck and the transmission/axle drain. This engine is 4.4 litres and literally drinks fuel, sounds amazing but couldn’t pull the skin of a rice pudding. No wonder those lads back in the day drove these flat out to carry as much momentum as possible

As a truck engine, it needs torque. Horsepower, not so much. It didn’t have to be fast.
The Garwood winch is rated at 10 000 lbs in the TM book butt the mechanical drawings on the lowmount utility winch is 12 000 lbs 1/2 wire 13 inch drum 14 inch drum 5/8 wire 20 000 lbs . Hard to find info on them the company closed in the early 70s . They are way under rated . That 12 000 will pull any stuck truck out . Without working to hard.
