GMC Canyon 1 Year After Build Update

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Lorne brought me his GMC Canyon in July of 2020 to get built out for his weekend adventures. It has since been one of my more popular builds and videos on my channel. Lorne reached out to me a little over a year later and asked if I wanted to do an update video on how his setup was going! Sounded like a great idea to me since so many people had an interest in this build.

ABOUT ME I grew up in a cabinet shop and was a born-to-be woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry, I converted a few friends' Vans and SUVs so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. Before I knew it I had my own business making people's ideas come to life. I had designed and built over 100 vehicles in the past years at my shop in Huntington Beach, California! I have now moved on to start a website where I sell some of my designs in an easy-to-follow plan. On my website www.SolidWoodWorx.com I also sell hardware for my customer to have peace of mind on the right drawer slides, bolts, brackets, etc to use during there DIY builds. Please email me solidwoodworx@gmail.com for more information.

It’s interesting to see a ‘year later’ vid with all the good & bad. It certainly looks good and minimalist. Not ridiculously crowded for the space. I think i’d put the coffee table hinges on the board tops. Straight away you double your work space.

Best build that I have found! I want something similar for my 6 1/2” bed RAM 2500. Keep the sink. Make the shelf large enough for my small microwave. Make the cabinet to fit my Ecoflow Delta Max. Make the bed expansion board hinged to flip up as a backrest. Add a shelf behind the cab for my Dometic fridge/ freezer. Wish you were nearer to SW CO!

So cool, I do a lot of similar trips. This is how I’m building out my Ram. I bought the Renogy Phoenix, smaller than what he has and I’ll just charge it in the cab whit the 12v port. I’m skipping the fan and sink and adding a mr buddy heater (I’m in Montana). Otherwise this is the perfect floor plan ! Great build!

Thank you for this video. Great idea to do follow up on builds helps us all decide on what works for our own build. More please, especially on small med size trucks. I think with gas prices going higher and higher more Vehical campers are concerned with spending $100 or more on gas to go free backwoods camping, since we have to travel further to find campsites. I get a lot of dust in my box camper when driving on gravel. I just discovered that if I crack the passenger side window in the camper, I get far less dust. I think it's because it equalizes the vacuum that normally builds up from wind passing overhead as I drive.

I have tried opening the side windows but found that I got more dust in doing that. The gasket kits helped a lot but is not perfect. I have read a lot of different theories on this but not really seen anything that is convincing. My thought now is that it is not bad and I am out enjoying nature so a little dust is all just part of the experience.

I know that we drive a lot of gravel roads as a kid and my dad always opened the vent in the car, then left the windows closed. That built up pressure in the car and stopped dust from getting in through all the cracks and stuff. I have been thinking of making a sort of scoop out of sheet metal that I could attach to the outside of one window. Then, when traveling on gravel I could open that window a tiny bit which would pressurize the inside of the camper. A winter project for me.
