When I was a small kid, in the days long before the interstates highways, I lived along a rural stretch of US 35 in Ohio. This was when I was so young that "experts" say kids don't have memories of things, but I recall the steady stream of trucks around the clock. There were the orange/dark blue H model Macks of Roadway, and the red ones with HENNIS emblazoned in bright yellow on the trailers. Then there were the McLean trucks. They were red GMC's, the ones later referred to as "cannonballs" which were then just called "screamin' GMC's". We lived near the foot of a hill, so they were grabbing gears and screaming like banshees. Even at night, everyone recognized the McLean trucks by their horrendous screaming on that hill. I loved 'em.

Oh man! You got to experience the true heyday of it all. Awesome!
I always like the smooth lines of the 50's GMCs, both COE and conventionals. And of course those old GM "screamin' jimmys" under the hood.
As a kid here in Australia and coming from a trucking family, I used to watch "Cannonball" on TV!! these trucks come up great when done up. Fantastic video.

Wow! That’s awesome! Great old show. Thanks for watching
That cannonball was a awesome find, great memories riding in one as a kid.👍👍
I happened to catch this video on a KZread "sidebar", and clicked on it immediately! I was a "Cannonball" fan going way back to the TV series...I can remember those lyrics like it was yesterday..."Rollin' down the highway, shiftin' of the gears...the rhythm when he's rollin' is music to his ears". I even had one of those Dinky "Supertoy" diecast models of a "Cannonball" McLean Trucking rig!! And, of course, I can never forget seeing those iconic McLean rigs rolling up U.S. 1 (before the completion of I-95) when my Dad took us on vacation to Virginia in our Ford Falcon!! This is one beautiful look back to a time I embraced with all my passion. Thanks, Dane...you're the finest.

Love those emblems!!
Another awesome adventure brother great video !!!
Excellent score at the end.
I was impressed on how rust free those GMC trucks were. Love to see a cannonball that is being recovered. That cracker box had a great exterior, bui the interior was scary (I knew a woman that was exactly the same, lol)

Love the red Ford H series cabover. Makes me think I'm a kid again and many were still in use when I started driving. The predecessor to the CL series. The white Ford I'm betting runs since it still has the keys with a tag in it. Naturally I like the Dayton wheels. In Arizona we simply called them eastern wheels since not a lot of trucks except LN Fords were sold with the Daytons out there. For a 70 year old truck or close to it, the Cannonball is in amazing condition and not much rust. And my favorite engine, the 6-71 Detroit. And I'd never ever modernize it.

I like how you think my friend! :)
Scrappy stance, classic headlights with a cab over the engine. I always like the GMC emblem.
I hope the new owner gets that GMC Cannonball back on the road ! I remember walking home from school seeing quite a few trucking terminals on old U S 1 south of Richmond Va. Overnite, Wilson , & Thurston , & the 151st truck line Preston , But I wasn't even a teenager yet ! But seeing all those day cabs mostly , & most were cabovers , & a few conventional cabs ! But vary rarely I would see a sleeper , Who knew at the time 8 to 9 years later I would become a driver ! & start seeing all the big sleepers conventional trucks with independents driving them out of Florida with fresh produce , & there reefer trailers on I -95 when it was just 2 lanes . Seeing that tractor with the Thurston logo brought some memories .

The Chevy C- 90s were a wee bit more popular with Farmers than their GMC 9500 brothers that is what I heard GMC dealers had the very large service departments to accommodate all the big fleet customers small Chevy dealers in rural communities always had a few C - 90s & C-80s C- 70s parked off to the side with sales ribbons & balloons

Man, what a trip that one was!! 😎 I gotta make it up there to check this place out! 🥰🥰🥰So how many Crackerboxes are you taking?🥰🥰🥰 C’mon! It was at least tempting wasn’t it?! You at least got a nice hood! Many good parts in the hood, if you don’t decide to use it for something. I didn’t see your tongue hanging out, well it wasn’t shown on camera at least. Hehehe! That’s one place I’m afraid to go, unless I have loads of money in my pocket or know that I’m just “window shopping “. That’s why I always liked going to a truck junkyard when I was a kid…So Many Good Parts or Projects! Thanks for the update. The Jamboree is on my calendar!🥰🤩✌️

Thanx for the ride-a-long Dane , congrats on the new Badges and hood , , quick question if your able to answer , awhile back Bradon had for sale a Pete 282 cabover , it was white with the very short sleeper for pulling doubles back in the day , the 282 was the 352 version of the factory single axle , hence the 282 model# to tell them apart , was just wondering if he still had that , if you saw it around his yard , this was at least 3 to 4 yrs ago ??? maybe longer it was listed on the website ??? Just wondering if it ever go sold 👍👍👍👍
