Thank you very much for the video, I’ve been looking for day on what you explained with the spindle. So annoying when you watch so much of a video and they skip over the only part I was looking for 😑. Anyways thank you sir

Man THANK you so much for the video. And thank you for actually SHOWING the steps instead of just “glossing” over everything like most KZreadrs do. 🤦♂️ Would you happen to have a video on “ removing” the spindle bearing & associated seals as well?? Thanks again 🙏🙏

@@gimmefuel7268 mine was actually brand new. Full disclosure, I don’t know exactly why my axel sheared off the way that it did. My nephew had borrowed my mountain truck and I think turned the wheels too far and it caught the leaf spring and that’s why it snapped it off. It was a weird break. That axle still and spindle bearing was three months old.

@@BryanHansen I was asking because I’m going to be replacing the u-joints on mine ,so figured I may as well replace the spindle bearing & outer axle seal while I was in there. I’ve already replaced my hubs & wheel bearings/ races previously.

That spindle seal should press into the spindle next to the spindle bearing. The axle turns inside of it. It might pop into place when you put the spindle on but I push them into the spindle before assembly. Also without that axle c-clip the axle can walk in/out of the hub, not much but enough it can make noise and the seal won't be contacting the mating surface which will let water/dust in.

A little tip if you can’t get that c clip out push the axel back out from the back. I have that issue on mine a lot

I had a pry bar on the back of the axle trying to push it in. I have aftermarket eaton lockers and I think it just makes it far enough out to struggle with the clip.

Pushing that axle shaft outward worked for me. I could not figure out how to get that small C-clip on, then I reached my hand around to the u-joint and pushed the shaft outward. It slid out just enough to get the C-clip on. Good call 👍🏼

Nice video but you left out how much of a pain in the butt it was to get that steel ring on the axle and not just sitting there. My axle took a big vice and a large piece of pipe. You nailed it on the set up.

The reason most kits don’t contain that plastic piece is that OEM stub shafts have a reusable piece like that make of steel that’s press fit on. I guess they’re assuming the customer will reuse the old one or that a replacement stub shaft will include it.

Shouldn't you press the small seal in the needle bearing hole on the spindle, THEN push the spindle onto the shaft?? Otherwise, you're lucky if the seal seats in snug where it's supposed to.

I had it pressed in already. Broke the axle after only a few hours off-roading.

Also, I can’t find one video on the front passenger side axle / drive shaft. There was a lot of play on mine when I took it out. There are no seals on either side of it, just that metal flange that butts up against the knuckle and joins the spindle. Is there supposed to be a seal on either side?

Didn't you replace the axle seal that goes at the end of the axle next to the U-joint on the axle side right before you would put in the axle?
@BryanHansen
Жыл бұрын
Yes I did! The seals I had in there were actually only a year old and in good shape so I didn’t knock the one out of the rotor/spindle, but I did replace all the axle seals on the shaft. The bearings and races were all inspected and used them if they still looked fine (which most did). The axle failure was not seal related, it was a crawling/locker mishap.

Interesting.... I am doing my 83 K5 Blazer (which should be very similar), and when I took it apart, it did not have the spacer (yours sounded like it was metal). Mine had the large seal stuck right up against the U Joint, then the beveled washer and then the washer with the channel in. I wonder if yours has it because it is a different model OR if whoever touched mine didn’t think it was necessary to put back on.
