Glycolysis Steps 1-5 Cellular Respiration Investment Phase

Leah4sci.com/glycolysis presents: Glycolysis Steps 1-5, the Investment Phase of Cellular Respiration
Tired of conflicting and confusing MCAT advice? Access My FREE guide for everything MCAT prep: leah4sci.com/MCATguideYT
This video focuses on the first half of the glycolysis pathway, in which energy is invested to trap a molecule of glucose in the cell and eventually break it into two molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. You’ll learn how the glucose is phosphorylated, isomerized, and ultimately lysed into two 3-carbon sugars on the way to becoming pyruvate in the second half of the pathway.

Leah, you don't know how happy am I to find your MCAT channel! I owe my As in organic chemistry to you! I'm taking biochem now and all of your amino acid videos and glycolysis videos are so helpful! I wish I could find one of your videos for every topic I'm learning. You make everything so easy to understand

Thank you this video helped out so much. Quick question - it looks like you drew glucose with the OH's in axial positions. Shouldn't they be pointed at an angle instead of straight up/down?

You're very welcome! In this video, glucose is depicted as a Haworth projection. This depiction is not meant to convey the ring conformation of the molecule. If we were to draw glucose as a chair conformation, it would show substituents in axial/equatorial positions, but in a Haworth projection, substituents are viewed as being above or below the ring structure.
