Glue and Part Swaps. Feeling ownership over your toy collection and making it your own (not Mint!!!)

Ойын-сауық

Scott Toy Guru Neitlich from Spector Creative looks into why some collectors resist simply gluing figures or doing part swaps to make a better collectable, even though it is no longer "mint"

Hodgepodging our figures to create our own “ultimates” version. Most fun part about our toys

I paint the nails of my Mattel dinosaurs, since they almost always come cost reduced on that area. Also swapping ewok hoods allows us to make new Ewoks. Talking about Ewoks I gave my green hooded Wicket an elven dagger that came with Legolas. And talking about LotR, I "personalised" my Uruk-Hai by adding white hands and most importantthe S rune that the book mentions but the films omitted

I wasn't sure about glueing parts but after I got Shiklah and Mania I had to glue their necklace and bets on, these parts whobbling around is just annoying, will do the same for Lady Deadpool. Had to boil some figures too, Batman the Merciless and Knull and even tried to color the gums on the closed mouth Venom head from the 2 pack

I change parts for my toys and other items all of the time as I prefer to mend damaged stuff rather than to replace them, if possible. As a kid I did (and I still do to this day) do customs with my Lego sets, not by glueing bits on mind just switching bricks round in order to make them just a little bit better, or if any of the bricks went missing. Another toy line that I do this with is MOTU Origins, most notably with regards to the 'normal' He-Man and the 'normal' Skeletor by using the extra heads from the Battle Armor He-Man and the Battle Armor Skeletor in order to make them closer to the way they looked in the vintage line. I've also got a much loved second hand Powermaster Optimus Prime for which I have used parts from some of the parts from my other Transformers while the trailer is in city mode in order to make it just that little bit better.

I recently got package of figures form 4 horsemen, and first thing in the box was a warning to be careful when mowing the limbs, to loosen them with warm water or warm air before mowing them. I foolishly ignored the warning and soon snapped of the leg of one of the figures. Fortunately I managed to fix the brake with a peace of copper wire and superglue. So superglue should always be on had not only for odd posing or modding but just for fixing factory errors or damage from clumsy handling.

I think a better title for this episode would be "Toy HACKS", because that's basically what these tips are. And there are a few problems with some of those hacks; boiling IS great for stuck-joints, but doesn't always help with re-molding, because the plastic will almost ALWAYS bend back into it's original shape after it's cooled for a little while. And accessory-swapping isn't always the best when it comes to scaling, especially with figures LIKE the Toy Biz Gambit, who was sculpted with his proportions a little bit off. (But I still prefer the soft-goods coat.) Just a little food for thought. =)

I’m only commenting to keep things positive. Head swaps and simple stuff are great fun, add in another accessory and it’s great. I want a club obi wan Indy and a Henry Sr, make me an old James Bond but i personally am not getting out the glue gun or the paint brush, fear of ruining an expensive purchase with little access to replace here in the Downunderverse.. the dollarydoo is not worth a lot these days.

You should talk about how Mattel has quite literally nearly mined every viable boys action figure toyline they own in the last few years with no success; Max Steel, MotU and now Street Sharks.

Can’t glue this channel and it really annoys me. You telling ppl that it’s their collection is perfect for your audience. They can’t think for themselves. It’s amazing how you had to show your ppl how to accessorize their figures. 😂😂😂😂.
