GLOWING ROCKS at MIDNIGHT - I’m Never Going Back..

Ойын-сауық

Ever wondered what rocks do when the sun goes down? Spoiler: They glow! 🌟 In this video, I grabbed my UV flashlight and headed out into the night to discover the hidden world of glowing rocks. But it wasn't just the rocks lighting up the night-turns out, a whole carnival of bugs decided to join the party! 🐜🔦

Join me on this quirky adventure as we explore the fluorescent secrets of nature together. You'll see the cool (and slightly creepy) glowing wonders that are just hanging out, right under our noses, once the sun goes down. We’ll laugh, we'll scream a little (okay, maybe a lot because... bugs 🙈), and most importantly, we'll unearth some seriously cool glowing rocks.
So, if you’re into nature, surprises in the dark, or just want to see someone get way too excited about rocks and slightly overwhelmed by night-time critters, this is the video for you! Don't forget to hit like, subscribe, and turn on notifications so you never miss an adventure. Let's light up the night and discover what's really out there!
Shout out to my awesome patrons: Ancient Soul, Michael Trudell, Ellie Mayne, Lisa Sierras, Cooper Moon, Rick, Jennifer M, Kevin Kloth, Julia Shoemake, Herbert Wilson, Dwayne Smith, Karley "Bioanthro", and Paul-I truly appreciate your support!

At least scorpions and centipedes glow under the UV so you don't pick them up. Too bad bird poop glows as well 🤣😂🤣

Years ago, I went through a bug/moth phase and I would set up a black light on a white sheet at night to attract all the cool bugs and moths, so I'm guessing yes, bugs are attracted to UV.

You just never know what you can find in the dark with a uv light in hand. Thanks for sharing. You should tumble a batch of reactive rocks to see how they finish and how the uv looks when they arr done. Watch out for bugs. Thanks for braving them for us.

Cool video! I'm headed up the UP of Michigan in a few weeks to find some fluorescent syenite (which some affectionately call "Yooperlite") along the lakeshore! They glow with a bright orange under UV, and it looks like they're filled with lava! (And there's no mistaking their glow for bird poop 🤣) So excited

Opal fossickers in South Australia use UV flashlight to spot opal chips in the mullock heaps. Opal actively reacts allowing them to tell it apart from the clay / host rock.

Great video! What you're showing is fluorescence in the minerals. Another cool property you might be able to show is phosphorescence. If you expose the mineral to the shorter wavelength light, as you are doing, then turn off the uv source and don't turn on the regular lights immediately, you might see the phosphorescence. The minerals can absorb the shortwave light and reemit it at a longer wavelength. It will also reemit the light over a longer time than just the time it's exposed to the shortwave light. Basically the mineral will glow in the dark with both the shortwave and the regular lights turned off after being charged by the shortwave. Also, some basic bug repellent might be warranted at that collecting location.
