The GLOW EZ LOCK 25" WHITE BEAUTY DISH is an ingenious portable version of the light modifier famous for striking fashion and portraiture images showcasing the incomparable safe and sure EZ Lock system. No more clumsy construction, fumbling with flex resistant rods or struggling in frustration for careful alignment of speedring holes. The 16 ribbed dish opens up and closes down, umbrella style. The ingenious self-catch EZ Lock surrounds a thick center shaft, providing a comfortable place for your fingers to push-lock the mechanism open, and a generous wide button to unlock-release and close the beauty dish painlessly. The quick-to-setup quasi-parabola saucer like assembly has all the advantages of the beauty dish allure without the disadvantages of damage that a metallic dish confronts during location travel and is free of any of the drawbacks of a delicate bendable dish. This folding unit is made for the road, however, with sturdy aluminum support rods for structural stability and extraordinary fabric strength.
This 25" White version of the Glow EZ Lock Beauty Dish series serves on subjects from head and shoulders portraits to dramatic partial figure studies, an optimal tool for mastering all shooting situations where quality counts. It shines in tight spaces where softboxes and umbrellas cannot fit the set comfortably.
The unique beauty dish properties are achieved using a double reflector system that softens the flash properties twice. The final effect has qualities that cross between that of a direct flash and a softbox, giving the image a wraparound look - like a softbox, but with more contrast and a more dramatic directed beam. The white interior finish delivers a deliciously soft output, creates subtle distinction and reveals more detail of your subject. Intrinsic to the beauty dish design is a small reversible opaque deflector cover that is suspended concave profile out, directly over the front of the light source, preventing direct light from hitting the subject. The light then bounces back off the inner curved deflector plate and floods the wall of the outer bowl of the beauty dish, resulting in a broad spread of softer indirect light. The effect is gentler than obtainable from a standard reflector and markedly less harsh than of a speedlight. By flipping the deflector plate and using it convex side out, you can realize differing levels of light distribution.
Photographers use 25" to 42" beauty dish on monolights and flash heads for flattering people shots, especially for sculpting facial features and creating beautiful shadows and catchlights. Glamour and sports photographers, which typically use a crisp type of lighting to enhance curves, muscles, and texture, use all sizes of the Glow EZ Lock Beauty Dish. When stacked in a vertical tower array of two or more, the beauty dish accentuates a model's full figure with perfect head to toe coverage. This compact size 25" diameter model can produce a beam with more punch. While it can be used for overall scattering of light to treat larger subjects and areas, but you will realize the most striking results when the dish is in proximity to the subject.
With the Glow EZ Lock Beauty Dish Eggcrate Grid, you have a powerful tool in your arsenal of master lighting. By covering the aperture of the reflector with the egg-crate grid, you gain more control of a light source's beam, and feathers hard light for a more attractive shadow, virtually eliminating spill from the rest of the body and the background. This strong directionality can be used to add high-key depth for fashion images and emphasize the model facial structure as well as the eyes, lips, nose, and chin.
The Glow EZ Lock 48" DEEP PARABOLIC SOFTBOX is an ingenious portable version of the light modifier famous for stunning fashion and portraiture images showcasing the incomparable safe and sure EZ Lock system. No more clumsy construction, fumbling with flex resistant rods or struggling in frustration for careful alignment of speedring holes. The 16-ribbed softbox opens up and closes down, 'umbrella style.' The ingenious self-catch EZ Lock surrounds a thick center shaft, providing a comfortable place for your fingers to push-lock the mechanism open, and a generous wide button to unlock-release and close the softbox painlessly. The quick-to-setup deep parabola bullet like assembly has all the advantages of a metallic magnum style reflector without the delicate nature. This folding unit is made for the road or studio, with sturdy aluminum support rods for structural stability and extraordinary fabric strength.

I swear, your like the only person on KZread that actually reviews these brand of softboxes,
I just ordered the 20" deep parabolic yesterday. Can't wait to check it out.
Just got mine in the mail today and am super excited about trying it out this weekend on a shoot!
Damn...gonna get a couple. Awesome job Rob
Some companies want 3-4 times that price! I'm so thankful for this deal, omg.
Thanks a lot Mr. Hall. I have been eagerly waiting for this video.
What a great deal! The main difference I spotted first was the reflector material on the Glow is smooth while the cheetah is pebbled. While I like the pebbled or textured material, I don't like it at nearly double the price. Very much looking forward to an a/b comparison on this.
RoH great review!!!! Thanks for the info, I’ll be getting couple of them!
Thank You! Just what I need, at a great price. Too bad they are backordered. I am still gonna order one though. Thanks for all the clear & informative videos on gear without any added nonsense. I like that you get right to it and don't show unpacking a box & other non important info. Cheers.
Those prices are insane. I love what I got from Cheetahstand and don't need additional modifiers right now. Once I kind of decide on someone, I usually stick to it so I will probably replace what I have with more Cheetahstand modifiers over time. If I were new and wanted to save every $$ I am positive I would be going for these at those prices. It is such a great time to get into photography...more capable cameras, all kinds of competition from 3rd party lenses, amazing and inexpensive lithium powered lights from Godox (and others are rising to the occasion so more choices coming) and amazing, innovative modifiers at great prices. It all adds up to faster, easier setups and better photos. That means more money for photographers!
Wowwww boy I wish I knew about these a couple if weeks ago!! CAN'T WAIT to take the PATH train to Manhattan to check them out in person!! Thanks as always for all the vids Robert!!
You do a great job on these videos.
Looks like I'll be picking up one! Those prices are super attractive

Great video , looks like great products.
Great video Robert, very informative.
I just picked up the 48 inch octa, 36 inch octa, and the 28 inch deep parabolic. Can't wait to try them out. The speedring on my Westcottt Rapid Box xxl just broke, and I picked up all three of these for $100 less than one Wescott!
Thanks for the video I ordered but it’s on back order Can’t wait to get it
Great video!!!
@03:19 You mentioned worrying about the material tearing. Well, it tears. At least mine arrived with a tear, and it gets a bit larger every time you set the beauty dish up. I don't have tons of experience with light modifiers but I liked the Glow EZ Lock Beauty Dish during the brief time I used it. The representatives at Adorama were very helpful and paid for return shipping on the product. I ordered a replacement and keeping my fingers crossed hoping the tear was a one-off. Btw, this was a great review video and was the reason I ordered the initial 34" Beauty Dish.
helpful! love this channel!
Thanks my guy!!! Their on the cheep for Black Friday!!! Ima grab the 25, and the 34
yesss, nice video, man!! Can't wait for my 48' to arrive!! Woo Hoo! ;)
I bought the 42" beauty dish (silver) when it was released and liked it so far. Very hard to push the center piece to the rod but that's my only complaint.
Thank You!
Thank you!
Thanks Robert! Cant tell too much diff between the white and silver on your final images. my personal taste is for white w diff. i like the more subtle contrasts. But think either one is great. and for the price..It's a No Brainer! Thanks again for the comparisons.
I called Adorama and changed my WHITE to SILVER just in time after watching this video. Made a lot of sense with the silver option. Thanks Robert!

With the white cover, you have white...the only time it makes a difference is when used as a beauty disk. Also light bouncing around inside does not cause yellow...age causes yellow. Flashes are not UV light and don't degrade colors. Even if it was UV...the flash is so quick it would take hundreds of years to even degrade even a little. So if it turns yellow...it's just old.

@@jeffpeterson5528 - Thanks for your input Jeff! I figured that with the white cover, both inside and outside, it would be good enough. At the same time, I could use the silver one if I wanted to.
Thanks for this video. I just bought a Cheetahstand 26" version and so far I like it. I got it because my Mola Demi, which I love, is awkward to travel with. The Cheetah does have a pebbled silver interior which may make some difference compared to the smooth interiors of these but the price is higher. I still love the smooth tonal transitions of the Mola compared to this but for travel you can't beat these (Cheetah or Glow, I am looking forward to your comparisons). I now considering two of Glow EZ lock small rectangular softboxs or stripbox for edge lights for that now in favor edgy sports look. For location travel and quick setup this should be great. I have a couple of older Photoflex Halfdomes and the Cheetah RBs but these are a pain to setup and break down. I may get one 20" Deep Para and the largest one and sell off the Cheetahs! However I do occasional use the large Cheetah Deep para and that chopstick thingy to focus the light which you can't do with the EZ lock versions. How is the quality of the grids for the Glow series?
Thanks!
I have an 60" octabox from paul c buff for 5+ years now hasn't yellowed. You will see a difference with a silver interior and white interior regardless of diffusers . I always choose white interior over silver, because white in my opinion looks better for skin tones over silver.
Just ordered the 48" on Amazon for $76. I plan to use it with the Godox AD400 Pro. BTW great review as always!
thank you so much I have search for this i fo on white and silver. 🙏
thanks good luck

Sweet. I just got the Glow 28" parabolic along with the Streaklight 360 as I jump into off-camera lighting... Seemed like a crazy good price, and I was surprised checking it out the other night that the quality feels pretty good (time will ultimately tell, but first indication was good).

Sending my white one back now and getting the silver lol
What is the benefit of putting the beauty dish in the softbox? Also would you use this with or without the roundhead?
What is the difference in lighting between the beauty dish and deep parabolic? What is the difference between the two in terms of light output and diffusion?
Are you planning doing a review of the glow pro series softboxes and parabolic softboxes?
Love your enthusiasm lol
I love the crispness of your eyes in the video! What was your setup?
For silver interior - have you ever had the silver lining flick off and leave "glitter" around? All of my old silver reflectors do that, hence I would think the white would be better (especially for softer - less punchy light) albeit with lower light output.
I'm still learning about light modifiers, but I would think the benefit of a white interior is the ability to use it directly as a White Beauty Dish with no diffusion spreading the light. The silver interior with diffusion would just turn this Beauty Dish into a Round Softbox and wrap the light around the subject, right? It wouldn't act like a White Beauty Dish at that point.
Perfect - from far away it will look like Briese :)
thank you!but i think the light is harsh in the outdoor
FYI, the standard industry test for fabric strength is called the Mullen Burst test, where a hydraulic cylinder is placed against a fabric sample clamped in place, and pressure is increased until the fabric ruptures, which stops the test, and a gauge shows the pressure at the point of rupture. The test equipment and process is shown in the link below, although it shows the test being done on leather rather than fabric. I worked in an industry providing a wide variety of industrial fabrics to manufacturing companies, and a Mullen Burst value was always included in fabric specifications (we had the test equipment in our plant). kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4abyZaxfdebdc4.html
I have and really enjoy a pair of the 25" beauty dishes and need a larger option for full and 3/4 length portraits. I'm considering either the 34" or 42" BD or the 38" DP. Some reviews make the parabolic look very heavy and large. Any suggestions? I need to be able to use these on location, including outdoors.
Have you used any of these with your CLAR Illumi Max 120? I'm thinking of getting the 25" beauty dish for fill/tabletop but I'm worried the reflector and double diff would cut too much light to make it very useful.
Do they only come with a Bowens mount or can you change the ring to Alien Bee?
What largest size box in either style do you think you can go for a model that can be opened up without needing to take off and put back on the diffusion panels?
Would you put the diffuser in front of the grid?
Mine just arrived. What's your thoughts on collapsing it? Is it really necessary to take out the panels??
Hi Robert, I just purchased a 36" ez lock softbox along with an adapter for elinchrom RX4 strobe. I am having a difficult time trying to install the adapter . Can't find any videos for help either. any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks , Roman Laureano
Now if you could only buy these products in the UK. What do UK based photographers use? I can't really find much that isn't either dirt cheap but not great or super expensive. I bought a modifier that looked very similar to the Cheetah para but it wasn't quite the same, more like someone saw a photo of the Cheetah and made their own version. It wasn't cheap either.
I wonder how this compares to the premium priced Grand series (non ez lock).
Which one are you using for those outdoor shots? Debating between a 42" or 34". I was looking at the 36" westcott rapidbox, but the prices on this are great. I also know that most of the time the advertised size is a little larger than its actual diameter.
Are the beauty dishes compatible with speedlites? I mean, using the S-type bracket. I guess that beauty dish includes a bowens speedring built in...
My light setup was from your recommendations and I thank you! Can you recommend the best light stands for these dishes I have a Flashpoint 200 and the on camera zoom ion for Sony! Thanks for the great work you do! Ps if anyone has recommendations I’ll gladly accept them!

I use Cheetahstand C10s for wedding work and Flashpoint C Stands or Cheetah Rolling Boom for more stationary stuff. I’ll link both tonight
How does the 24 inch beauty dish compare with the Westcott Joel Grimes beauty dish? Does this have an actual metal plate for light to bounce or is the centre of the inner baffle thick?
Which C-stand was used to support the softbox?
not available in UK?
Where to buy this in Europe!!?
Make a video of how easy or how hard is to fold them
What did you think of the grid?
I just bought the 48 inch glow ex lock octabox. I am wondering what is the difference with the beauty dish as they both come with the same diffusion including the center disk? Also what is your favorite size for outdoor shooting?
Do you want a shallow or a deep octa? Thx
What is the difference between the deep parabolic and beauty dish, if comparing models with the same outer diameter? It seems like the beauty dish would save a lot of space and fit easier into small rooms. Does the parabolic geometry of the deep parabolic cause the light to be emitted a lot brighter than the more shallow beauty dish?
Robert which were you using with the blonde model? I liked those looks more then the ones that were labeled and I’m in between what size to buy

Hi Rob! I just received my 34" and 25" and love them! My question to you or anyone else is....what do i need to remove before closing these up? Can I leave the diffusion layers on? Just the inner one? Do I have to take out the deflector plate? Appreciate your time and help.

I think the reflector plate has to be removed for it to collapse all the way, but I rarely use it so not positive. I leave diffusion in when I collapse it.
Hi Robert -- thanks for all the info you offer! Question: here one of the reasons you opt for white interior is because white eventually yellows in all modifiers, yet in another video you say that the silver lining scrapes off and gets broken up eventually. Do you experience that with the Glow EZ Lock series?
Black fabric paint should take care of that branding

Funny. Out there with a model, high end camera rig and big light modifier and wants the brand to less conspicuous.

What’s the purpose of the reverse plate inside?
Hi mate. I'm considering to purchase a Nicefoto 90cm parabolic to use with Godox VL150 for my video needs. That's a dope setup, however will I be able to use it with a Godox V1 speedlight (with a Bowens adapter of course) or would you suggest an umbrella or another setup for flash photography; which I will place the speedlight in front of the box instead of connecting the dome around the speedlight? I will surely have the setup for my video needs and I'm up for not purchasing another softbox for my flash photography needs. That's why I'm asking if a parabolic dome will save me from purchasing and carrying another soft box. Sorry for the long message.
Thanks for the video. I see this is now two years old..... How has this box held up over time?
@robhallphoto

Still using them all, the 28" deep para gets the most use, I've had it on 100s of shoots and it's always rolling around my trunk. It's held up to the abuse well, much more than I thought the lightweight material would tolerate.
Have you used the deflector plate? If so, how does using the extension rod or flipping the plate over effect light quality ? Thanks.

There is no “best”. Just different shapes.
While the prices are low ( like you said just 5 years ago these would have been $500) and the quality is great (I think they are of high quality and even with heavy location shoots they will easily last 5-10 years..The nylon is at least 330D and that has fantastic tear resistance but onky moderate abrasion resistance. This is opposed to 1000D which has great abrasion resistance but once it's cut you had to burn the frays or they will keep going. So to me the weak link is the mechanisms and it feels very solid to me. So I just don't see it failing before 5 years and then you buy a new one. With that life cycle you could be 20 years down the road and finally reach the cost of a Westcott.. which IS better quality but not a 25 year box. I also think the beauty dish themselves are a waste of money. I think the 38" will everything any of the three BD will do and anything they smaller para's will do as well. It has amazing throw, great light shape, put the dish in and it really tightens it up, there inside diffuser with the double layer does am great job of fall off, then the outside and the egg crate acts like a medium soft box key light. I love it and with the ad600 I can shoot with just it from morning through high noon and not a cloud in the sky and then all the way into dusk. It truly is a jack of all trades and a master of a few of those.
Rob, What's your video setup for this review?
