Light did so many things right in this matchup, even though he played really nonchalantly. - challenged d-air constantly (bad habit of Maister) - utilized aerials to get on the level and push thru shield - played the rush down of Fox smart considering G&W breaks a lot of combos Love love love Light sets💚

He didnt rush down Well he did game 2 and 4 and got destroyed for it After analysing this set : At first he was approaching grounded alot Get grabs and even dtilt in game one as an anti air He also used dair really well to contest any aerial approach and often got 40% out of it Every time he was in dis and landed agressively, he got punished for it He used alot of dairs to get out of ledge trap situation Which maister never punished by simply back dashing + smash He contested gnw faire using his own Almost every aerial that hit was either delayed or a bair or Air to Air. He was forcing maister to approach the whole game So much that he got punished for shooting laser at some point So if I can take any cool info from that : Fox dair beats gnw sh aerials Fair oos beat gnw fair Approaching grounded is usually better, but once they understand it you ll have to be prepared for spot dodges Baiting an approach can lead gnw to up b oos, which you can punish by simply following and uairing them Anticipating gnw approach makes you win the mu by far Bait n punish +sometimes approching is the best way to handle this mu

I love the patience of firing lasers and making Maister approach. It definitely paid off since it made him go for bad approaches.

Despite the community believing that Fox is not Top Tier, Light is definitely showing that he can still overcome his worst matchups. He has beaten Kome, Esam, and now Maister all recently

The Impersonator the top players might be in consensus about fox’s status outside the top tier, but KZread comments sections usually contest it haha. I think fox is one of those characters that only the top players really expose. I’ve seen fox players like ZD absolutely run train in locals and fox has some pretty decent representation. But light is the ONLY fox player ever making it deep in anything big. I think that fox is probably top tier against like 80% of the player base, but for top players he’s barely high tier.

His body pokes out of a full shield at like 6 different points. He can't L-cancel most of his aerials because they're coded as specials for some reason. And his spot dodge values were swapped to give him the only one in the game that leaves a character more vulnerable for longer than it makes them invulnerable. Gnw vs Fox's frame 1, set knockback, jump cancellable, invincible shines that can spike is practically a losing matchup all on its own.

People have this stigma that any character on the rise will fall again due to MU inexperience. Can we just remember that MU experience works both ways. Maister is adapting to the meta just as much as everyone else is. He wasn’t really in the best frame of mind during this tournament due to problems getting there. You can tell he wasn’t playing at his peak when he nearly lost a set to a g&w ditto.

Why do people think the Fox/G&W MU is heavily in G&W's favor? It looks like Fox dominates neutral with his speed and kill setups while G&W relies on defensive play and edgeguarding. It looks as even as can be.

fox relies on shield pressure with nair and gnw just invalidates that. A lot of fox combos aren't frame tight and since gnw has a frame 3 up b fox can't do dash attack up tilt into stuff at low percents. Gnw has massive disjoints n fox is a fast faller so he gets comboed forever. Also since fox looks for a neutral or down air at kill percent, up smash invalidates that option. While yes, fox has speed and kill setups, i wouldn't say he dominates neutral, since gnw can just hold shield since fox has a bad game and then up b. Fox also is pretty light (haha), but to be fair so is gnw, but where this matters is in edgeguarding, since fox's recovery can be so linear, bair kills early and isn't as risky to throw out as foxs upsmash. I hope this makes sense

Twisted Coaster Fan maister wasn’t really in the best of spirits during this tourney. He almost dropped a set to a g&w ditto, ironically. It was because he had issues with a plane ticket to get to the tournament. Not making excuses for maister, just making a point that this upset isn’t really a G&W problem. It was likely just underperformance on maister’s part. It happens.

Bruh. Light was grabbing way too much. There didn't have to be that close of matches. You have a frame 1 neutral attack that does a guaranteed 14 to 16 damage. Yet you grab which comes out like frame 8 and leads to about 8 to 10 damage with tons of lag. Game & Watch can just just up special out of everything so going for that frame 1 option is best. We know for a fact that Fox isn't going off the stage to get Game & Watch. Too risky. He took so much unnecessary damage for throwing out dumb grabs.
