Mitini Nepal celebrates the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia 2023 with a grand celebration. The day is celebrated each year on 17th of May commemorating the World Health Organization’s decision to declassify homosexuality as a disease on May 17, 1990. The day represents a major global annual landmark to draw attention of decision makers, the media, the public, corporations, opinion leaders, local authorities to the alarming situation faced by the people with diverse identities.
This year we celebrate IDAHOTB 2023 with the theme “Together always: united in diversity”. Where eight stories of LGBTQ people with diverse identity and issues were published. Mitini Nepal takes immense pleasure to honor one of the LGBTI couples and a family on this occasion for their remarkable and tireless dedication for enhancing the dignified life of the community. Likewise, a fact sheet on “Impact of age discrimination on older LGBTI persons in Nepal” was published during the program.
Honorable Minister Surendra Raj Acharya, Ministry of women, children and senior citizens was chief guest, likewise Honorable chairperson of National Human Right Commission and Women commission and president of Nepal Federation of Nepali Journalist and Senior Feminist Rita Thapa was the guest. There were the community members from the seven provinces of Nepal as well as Commissions, UN Agencies, Embassies, NGOs, INGOs, Medias, Government Stakeholders, celebrating the event with gusto.
