Glider Skimming the Salt River Mountain Peaks
Спорт
Ride along as a high performance glider / sailplane flies just feet above the mountain top rocks while enjoying a fun day out flying. The Salt River Mountains are located on the east side of Afton Wyoming's Star Valley. The glider is a 15 meter (50 foot wingspan) carbon fiber modern glider capable of flying 180 miles per hour and can glide 47 feet forward for every foot dropped. We look for areas of lift where the air is going up faster than the glider is descending so that is how we are able to fly many hundreds of miles and many hours in a day. I hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for talking so much... it felt more like we're all right there sitting in the cockpit with you. Really appreciate hearing about your thought/decision process. It is interesting to see how you make your decisions and how your plans evolve with the constant situational changes. All while enjoying that milliion-dollar view!
My brother, who lives in Tooele, told me Utah got a huge amount of snow in 22/23 winter. He was happy: he's a snowboarder. Because I watch your channel, I asked him if he saw gliders above the slopes and he said no, but his chosen ski resort many not be a range suitable to gliders.
Amazing. More of this please!
It's so nice to join you on a longer flight again and getting to see this beautiful range. Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for taking KZread along with you! I'm super jealous! Been watching you for years now, my wife and daughter just watched this video with me for their first Bruno video. My 10 yr old said she would be too scared to fly a glider. 😂 I tried to explain the benefits of glide ratio in a glider versus a typical powered aircraft. Then it seemed safer. Safe flying!

Thanks for watching! We need to slowly get her more and more comfortable so she goes for a ride someday! 😉
Thank you for taking us along once again for an amazing flight. On a side note, the pilot I am crewing for in Uvalde is tied next to Tango Tango. TT, thanks for the help with the mylar.
Definitely higher then you rn 🤣🤣🤙🤙🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Oh man, thanks for sharing that amazing scenery and flight with us!
Great video Bruno, haven't seen one of your videos in awhile. I used to watch your videos full screen all of the time during covid. It was a nice escape during that time locked in my house alone for long periods of time. Cheers and thanks!

So glad you enjoy them! They are totally different on a big screen and you can actually see what’s going on. Cheers!
I've been a passenger in a modern sailplane many times. Only thermals over open terrain. Your ridge running videos always amaze me! Your skills are much to be admired as well. Throughly enjoyed this Bravo 4!!
The Salt River Range is just incredibly beautiful to soar over, especially this time of the year when the snow and frozen lakes are starting to melt.
Peaceful yet adventurous. Keep the videos coming!
That's really beautiful, Bruno...excellent slope soaring; love the real-time narration too! :) Happy skies
I'm glad to see you're making long videos again I love the ones when you're by the mountains sloping. I fly radio controlled slope planes. You doing great job I feel like I'm hanging out with my friend just flying along talking about cool things😊
Stunning as always B4!
Excellent flying, Bruno :)
Fun one, Bruno! Once I get the skillset, ridge is one of my bucket list items. I did a little at the Air Sailing Thermal Camp this past June, probably about the time you did this flight. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Confidence.. Nerves of steel.
Holding my breath through the entire ride
The snow really adds a lot to the scenery. Thanks much sir for the ride along!
I'm living in the wrong place. Looks stunning terrain and conditions 👌
Nothing makes me question the reality of reality...than a video like this. He's ...sailing over ...snowbound mountains. What in...tarnation.😊😊😊 4:49 crazy aint the word 😂
This is amazing!! Thank you for sharing Bruno!!
Always amazing Bruno best experience ever !! Thanks
Glad to see you again! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Outstanding video. Exhilarating ride-along. Thanks.
Wow! This view is simply amazing. Great camera set up. Love the continuous narrations letting us know what you're thinking. I feel like I'm right there with you. Really enjoyed this keep making more videos-thanks
this terrain is breathtaking ❤❤❤
Great video again. Safe landings!!
Beautiful views!
Hi Bruno, excellent video and commentary. Very educational and also a great advertisement for the magic of silent flight. JS
Good long flight. That was fascinating. Thanks! ;)
thanks for letting me fly with you, I really enjoy it.
Beautiful Bruno
I flew for many years out of Falcon Field, Mesa, AZ. There were mountains, the Superstitions to the North, and lakes and a river, the Salt River. Occasionally, there would be snow in the winter. I never remember any surviving into the summer months. It seems to me these mountains are more extensive and in another location. In addition to power, I did a lot of gliding but in the UK. You seemed to be flying much faster than I would have done to use ridge lift best. Nice shots, beautiful scenery.
Damn it! Cuts off way too short! Fek, was really enjoying that. Thanks Bruno, awesome stuff!
Majestic experience.
It's interesting fact that you have landed about 15 times in a farm field. It's probably good experience so you are confident to do it in the future and in sketchier fields, if they are your only option.
Beautiful...
I let your videos run all day when we host get togethers. Everyone loves them. I follow NHRA drag racing. One of the racers and commentators name is Bruno Massel. Talk about close names!

Thanks for your support! I have lots of raw video from the last few years that I just need to make the time to edit and post. One of these days I’ll get around to it. Cheers.
Bummer the camera battery died. Those were some amazing shots Bruno - I could almost feel the rush when you were pretty close to the mountains. Did you ever have any awkward situations when you landed on someones property (field)? I reckon this can be very stressful not knowing you can make it to your destination - maybe that is also a rush and excitement while flying?
Your first comment got me laughing so hard 😂 you definitely know your audience 😉

The dream. Hope I get to do this one day
subbed ofcoz! happy thermals, aint nothing like it
We need your Glider for Microsoft Flight Simulator :D
Would like to have heard more speed readings, altitudes and what instrument/knob you were working with your left hand. Beautiful flight ! ( I flew Hang Gliders for 25 years - retired now. )
This lucky Man must have seen a lot of Bigfoots running away in a panic! =)
Awesome video, super jealous. I got my glider rating years ago and never been able to use it. What kind of glider do you fly bruno? This type of flying definitely going on the bucket list.
I'm at least 2 higher than you and the view and experience is fantastic. Thanks for the video man
Hi Bruno, Did you purchase the Hawk option on your LX computer ? If not, you should. It is absolutely awesome. Particularly wind calculation in mountain flying !
Your investment in a better camera is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
This is a beautiful video Bruno...and I rreally like your commentary and explanations. All that is captivating. Well Done! BVIII
Wonderful video, amazing views, as usual. Is this the same glider as in the past, the instrumentation looks clearer. My only complaint is my usual one, four hours too short ;-) I read the FAA guidance for powered aircraft recently, while checking before commenting to someone who drove a Ford model A up Pike's Peak and they said oxygen above 10,000 during the day, and 5,000 feet at night. So applying the same rules in other areas, everyone driving in places like Denver should be on oxygen at night. Parachuting is boring after the first few seconds, but I've only done a couple of jumps and don't see any need to do more.
this on a 65in 4k was glorious !
I wanted to ask you.. (I have never been in a real glider before), I do love to practice in MSFS and have learned a lot from you! When it comes to the flight stick, I know from watching that you want to have a loose grip (most of the time) to kinda feel out what the plane is doing. I often see just two fingers at times. So, this would lead me to think there is VERY little stick resistance (weight) on the flight stick. I ask because I am trying to build and tune my joystick to get as close as I can, lol. One thing I wanted to ask, is if you let go of the flight stick in real life, I'm guessing it will not "center" (like a typical joystick would), so does this mean the stick is "floppy" all the time and you need to constantly be holding it? Or, if you let go, it will just maintain that position? At home, I can change springs and dry clutches on my stick to try and come close. I can also remove my springs completely and just use some dry clutch resistance (stick kinda just stays where you put it), want to get something that is somewhat realistic.

Great questions. You’re right there is very little stick forces, but the stick will self-center. Good luck!
Hey Bruno! A great video as usual! Shame about the camera battery! Some awesome scenery over there! Are you still flying? I've noticed a few aviation YT'ers posting less lately. I hope you're well, and hope to see some more videos from you at some point! A long-time viewer from the UK.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeas I’m still flying just not posting many videos. I lost a lot of enthusiasm when I got smacked down by the FAA w few years back. I wish you the best.
Great vid, be nice to see a flight tracking if possible... Stay safe...
Had to stop gliding cos my epilepsy stopped being controlled. Miss thermal and mountain wave soaring
Wish we could have sone something like that during your visit to Sisteron. :( Maybe next time. You just need to stay longer.

Tnx pal. I just found your website and it takes me back to when I flew Schweizer 1-26 in Connecticut. Little grass strip outside of Danbury. Beautiful vid btw. Great shots...
I thought you powered your camera from the glider batteries! Are you not doing that? I had some improvements to my '20L recently and one of them is a USB power socket on the panel. Haven't used it yet though.
Bigguns....!!!
No way this vid doesn’t get millions of views and I’m one of the first few hundred
Great flight! I notice the new control stick. Is that a new glider ?

@@BrunoVassel You’re very welcome, and oh ok looks great ! and thank you for the great videos! looking forward to see more. Safe soaring!
Don’t you ever want to thermal in some of the 2k boomers you fly thru? Then you have altitude for recovery from stall/spin. I’m sure its more exciting to fly close, but the higher you are the more speed you can fly with right?
What do these sound tones represent
actualy how big is batery for electronic etc ??
11000 feet would be enough altitude to cross that unlandable, scary nothingness to the other ridge on the left ?
what's the thing on the windshield for?
What is the stall speed on this craft?
Who tows up there?
I live in Mesa, AZ and entered Salt River Mountains in Google maps. All I got was South Mountain South of Phoenix. Where are these other mountains, please?
