Glentress Blue Trail - A MTB beginner's point if view!

Спорт

Back in October we headed to scotland to try out all of the 7 stanes MTB trail centres, including Glentress. Here is Emma's take on the full blue trail as a total beginner mountain biker. (Some swearing included!)

Ahh thank you! 😊 Hopefully I can inspire a few people to give it a go! I'll be heading back up to Glentress this year hopefully and planning on doing some more riding in and around that area. It's a great spot! 😄

Your husband is right to give you a bollocking for not gripping the bars correctly. You have no control with that style. You also have to remember that you won’t find the limit of the bike as it is capable of far more than yourself. Tyres will have more grip than you think. Have confidence and keep pushing yourself. Keep it up. 👍🏻

Haha.... yes I know I was lucky I didn't end up over the handle bars! Yes just need to work on the basic skill and confidence. ☺️🤙

Ahh thank you! ☺️ We actually have watched some of your videos! The Hamsterley one inspired me to put my beginner stuff on here! I think its important to show that you don't have to be doing jumps and going really fast to enjoy the easier trails and that even at my ripe old age of 47 you can start learning something new! So thank you for that! 😁🤙

Get a session with The Dirt School or Ridelines. You need help with your bike positioning and trail craft. It's mastering the fundamentals that will help you become a better rider. Ambling down Blues and Reds without any attack position isn't going to improve your skills. You're going to need to put yourself in uncomfortable positions and that's far easier when you understand how to position yourself on the bike and on the trail. Keep going though! I've done 121's and Group sessions with Andy at Dirt School and it turned me into a MUCH better rider.

Yeah I know!😊 We live on the south coast so coaching opportunities are limited. However, I did plan on getting some coaching later this year anyway. Thanks for watching! 😁👍🤙

What ebike are you on? I cycled up the yellow hiking trail on a Turbo Levo. Less effort than pushing it. Grip the bars though.

You would definitely benefit from a coaching session to build your skills, but most importantly, your confidence. There's a lot of courses available, you can either get one to one, or there's also ladies only sessions. Once you get better body position and technique you will be faster which will make the trails so much easier! Once you get a bit of confidence you will enjoy it so much more, in the meantime keep going girl, I'm still trying to get my wife out on a hire day!! Oh and as you already know, 3 fingers on the handlebar and one on the brake, you are barely in control of the bike, wasting a lot of energy and putting your weight too far forward!!!!!!!

All very true! 😁 I am going to book on a basic mtb skills course this year as I know it will help. There is so much to think about and half of it, is just going out and practicing as much as possible! Plus also I should really do these videos, once I've sessioned the trail a bit more, they are a bit warts and all! The hand/finger positioning has been fixed now, after I got a bollocking from my husband. He was shocked I made it the whole way down without coming off with that bad hand positioning! 🤣 I would love to go back there and ride that again after some more practice and experience though! 😁🤙

@@SearchMTB keep practicing, don't try to think about too many things at once. Sessioning would be very good, concentrate on drops or rollers or just one thing at a time and you'll be amazed how quickly you will improve.

Go you for challenging yourself to do this trail. Although it sounds against common sense, having more speed will help go over a lot of obstacles and looking ahead. What bike were you riding?

Yeah I really need coaching!!! Unfortunately, my ebikes motor was broken for 6 months last year, so didn't get out on it at all! All fixed now though, so time to get back on it! Off to Scotland again in a few weeks, so hoping to check out some trails and get back in the swing of things! I'm hoping it won't take me too long to get my confidence back after such a long break! Thanks for watching and we'll check out your channel too 😊 🤙
