Glenn Goins Swing on Down
Summertime tribute
for Bobbie Pettiford & Ka'sette Goins
Happy Heavenly Birthday Glenn Lamont Goins
January 2, 1954 - July 29, 1978
Born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey in a family of talented musicians, this master vocalist with the strong, haunting and powerful gospel voice is perhaps best known for “calling in the Mothership” in the P Funk live shows, such as on the renowned P Funk Earth Tour.
Goins was particularly prominent on the Parliament albums Mothership Connection (1975), The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein (1976), and Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome (1977), and played on the Funkadelic albums of this period as well.
In 1977, Goins was one of the first of many musicians to leave Parliament-Funkadelic in reaction to what was perceived as very bad management by band leader George Clinton. He formed his own funk band Quazar in 1978, featuring his younger brother Kevin Goins and drummer Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey.
Glen Goins died from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, aged 24, in 1978
'Summertime by Glenn Goins'.......This song was and still is a Glenn Goins orginal it is not a Quazar song nor was ever meant to be,.Glenn was going to have his own album of his own flavor after Quazar which was his youngest brother's group.
Thank you Donna Snead 'A Toast to the BOOGIE'.
Peace, Love & Respect 'P'.

We are a People with connections to the Most High from which that which we call the funk, soul, rhythm and blues, and all things known and unknown of us and by us flows. What people do you know can do like we do,... And this while still undergoing oppression. That is unless you believe we have arrived at our final destined nation.

@@niggastilllyin4290 George never used his own name for the band until the 80's - after Glenn died. They were the Parliaments back in the 60's, Parliament-Funkadelic in the 70's and George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars in the 80's and beyond.
At 24, dead from some rare "hodgkin's lymphoma" just as he left Parliament to start his own group. Sounds shady to me. We lost one talented brother and it's a damn shame. Thanks for all the great groovin' music and incredible vocals Glen. Thank you Bushtales for posting this great compilation on youtube. Peace!
The LATE GREAT AMAZING GIFTED AND TALENTED AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER GLENN GOINS!!! There you have it folks. THE VERY BEST OF THE BEST!!! It can't get any better than this !! I know I saw him bring in the mothership in Houston. I just hate that at the time, I was too young to realize how AMAZING, GIFTED and TALENTED this young brother was. R.I.P. my brother. Oh yeah I'm loving that Summertime cut.
with no exaggeration.. he's one of my all time favorite singers.. should have been a mega star.. but died tragically way to young.. Glenn is my church. every Sunday I play him singing this song.. ( there are many different recordings.. all fantastic)
That guitar at the start, and the first singing he does is epic, I wish there was a more studio version of this simply for quality and length reasons.... And I absolutely adore the summertime track at the end, such a shame he beamed up to the mothership so soon...

The word is ridiculously overused these days, but Glenn was truly amazing. His voice spoke of a being from another world. It was simply too rich, too wise, too soulful, and too moving for someone so young. Paired with his guitar playing and energy, and he really did appear to be an extraterrestrial brotha! I am grateful he landed on the mothership and shared his gifts with us while he stopped by Earth.

He brought the church to the "P" when he sang. His gospel-like vocals would take you to church and then baptized you in the funk.I really believe if he held a church service and ask to anyone join the church, he would have some followers. He was the herald of the mighty Mothership.
