Glen & His Family - The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour: Christmas Special (20 Dec 1970) - Medley
The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour was an American network television music and comedy variety show hosted by singer Glen Campbell from January 1969 through June 1972 on CBS. He was offered the show after he hosted a 1968 summer replacement for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Campbell used "Gentle on My Mind" as the theme song of the show. The show was one of the few rural-oriented shows to survive CBS's rural purge of 1971.

Glen Travis Campbell (born April 22, 1936) is an American rock and country music singer, guitarist, songwriter, television host, and occasional actor. He is best known for a series of hits in the 1960s and 1970s, and for hosting a music and comedy variety show called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS television from January 1969 through June 1972.
During his 50 years in show business, Campbell has released more than 70 albums. He has sold 45 million records and accumulated 12 RIAA Gold albums, four Platinum albums and one Double-platinum album. He has placed a total of 80 different songs on either the Billboard Country Chart, Billboard Hot 100, or the Adult Contemporary Chart, of which 29 made the top 10 and of which nine reached number one on at least one of those charts. Campbell's hits include his recordings of John Hartford's "Gentle on My Mind"; Jimmy Webb's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman", and "Galveston"; Larry Weiss's "Rhinestone Cowboy"; and Allen Toussaint's "Southern Nights".
Campbell made history in 1967 by winning four Grammys total, in the country and pop categories.[2] For "Gentle on My Mind", he received two awards in country and western, "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" did the same in pop. Three of his early hits later won Grammy Hall of Fame Awards (2000, 2004, 2008), while Campbell himself won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. He owns trophies for Male Vocalist of the Year from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM), and took the CMA's top award as 1968 Entertainer of the Year. In 1969, actor John Wayne picked Campbell to play alongside him in the film True Grit, which gave Campbell a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. Campbell sang the title song which was nominated for an Academy Award.
Alzheimer's diagnosis...
In June 2011, Campbell announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six months earlier. According to his family, symptoms of the disease had been occurring for years, becoming more and more evident as the years progressed.
Campbell went on a final "Goodbye Tour", with three of his children joining him in his backup band; his final show was on November 30, 2012, in Napa, California.[During the tour's concerts and rehearsals, Campbell would often forget which songs he was supposed to play, repeating them after finishing a performance. He also frequently had to be reminded that he did have the disease, and relied on a teleprompter to remember the lyrics to most songs. Newer songs from his later albums had to be scrapped altogether, as Campbell struggled to remember the chords and lyrics for these. He performed "Rhinestone Cowboy" as a goodbye at the 2012 Grammy Awards ceremony held on February 12, 2012, his final televised on-stage performance.
In April 2014, news reports indicated that Campbell had become a patient at an Alzheimer's long-term care and treatment facility. On March 10, 2015, NBC News reported that Campbell could no longer speak for himself and that two of his children, Debby and Travis, had sought legal action against Campbell's wife Kim, with the assertion that she had "secluded" the singer and prevented them from "participating" in Campbell's medical care.

Glen’s sisters; Jane, Barbara, and Sandy sing “Till There Was You” at 4:10. Then they sing “Mr. Lee” at 6:28.

"Till There Was You" is a song written by Meredith Willson for his 1957 musical play The Music Man, and which also appeared in the 1962 movie version. The song is sung by librarian Marian Paroo (Barbara Cook on Broadway, Shirley Jones in the film) to "Professor" Harold Hill (portrayed in the film by Robert Preston) toward the end of Act Two. It became a hit for Anita Bryant in 1959, reaching number 30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and spending two weeks at number 14 on Cash Box. "Till There Was You" was covered by the Beatles in 1963.

"Mr. Lee" is a 1957 single by The Bobbettes. The song was the first to simultaneously become a Top Ten hitting single and reach #1 on the R&B charts in the United States.

@@HarringtonFamilyTree Great info! (aside from the mention of that homophobic Mrs monster, Anita Braindead Bigot Bryant.... Even hearing her name just floods back all of her I'm such a sweet, spoiled, innocent, malevolent, cute hometown kinda girl, who's such a good Christian, and uphold the Lords word to love one another as he hath loved us, by being so empathetic and sympathetic of fellow human beings, that she won't hesitate to promptly get on her knees and pray vehemently for them to burn in hell for all eternity!! The less said about THAT so called "Christian" the better, you can be an honest to God Christian, living God's word, but by doing it with humility, class, humanity & empathy. Her version of "Christianity" is more or less identical to the best/worst (depends on whether u have a sense of humour really) scenes in the film The Exorcist, quote for quote n all!! Plus, she was SOOOOooo obsessed with the sexual aspects of gay people's relationship when it is just one small cog in the entire working of the relationship, makes me wonder exactly how "good"a 'Christian' life she had behind closed doors & drapes?!)Eh sorry about that ramble, LOVE GC, God Rest His Soul. Maybe better I didn't start typing about him... We'd be here tíl next year!!!

They. ARE. Awesome
Who the heck are the 22 people who don’t appreciate a loving family who loves music? This is beautiful.
This should always remain a tribute to Wes and Carrie Campbell for raising such an amazing musical family, just WOW simply WOW!
Just look at Glen's joy at being with his parents and siblings. You can just see his love for his parents. His sisters harmony is heavenly to hear.
You can feel the love Glen has for his family... Glen Campbell has never forgotten where he came from... He is admired over the world and missed.
They would never show something as wholesome as this on modern trash TV. Thankfully we have the internet.

Every “wholesome family” has issues. Modern tv writers just make an attempt to show that. No need to be bitter. “If These Walls Could Speak”

@@Danimal1577 It's funny how people who have issues, think EVERYONE has issues! "Speak for yourself, and keep it to yourself!" ..my life was like living in Mayberry growing up, ...and I thank God every day, compared to what I see what other people have went through. @@Danimal1577 Leftists in entertainment like to cater to the lowest common denominator. Not realizing that even their brand of entertainment gets boorish and tiresome. All of MTV shows,The Kardashians and Wives of Buttfuck USA are a great example of unwatchable shit.If you seen the first episode ,there is no need to see the rest.Apparently Marxists that create these shows lack innovation.Everyone of these kind of shows are completely pointless. It does give a window into the fact that even the wealthy can be vapid braindead idiots.

@910am, wow, you made that way too simplistic. Everyone's life was not Mayberry. Things happen to people outside of their control and they can't make it what they want. Anyway, you can't just change things but you can ask God to help you through it. I'm thankful He helps those who can't just change things like children, mentally ill, sick and weak, etc.

Awesome, happy singing family. What talent. Glen evidently was so proud of them. Great admiration for this family that had strong family bonds.
America was put together well back then, thanks Glen for the reminder of a families touching in a life of togetherness.
Glen Campbell couldn't have become anything other than a Great Musician growing up in that amazing family. I wish I could buy his TV series on DVD.
Glen's smile for his parents is priceless.

You are completely right that this wonderful beautiful piece of good wouldn't probably even be shown on current trash tv! Soooo true. Glad we have this forever.
Glen was one of 12 children! Obviously a talented family in addition to Glen. Came here after searching for background on him and his family who were “dirt poor” sharecroppers from Arkansas. Wonderful to see and hear his mom and dad and sisters!
How delightful this is. God bless them
Ohh wow, what a beautiful harmony...thanks so much..
I've just witnessed where Glen got his magic from, i'd thought his mum and dad were amazing.. Then omg, his sisters just blew me away.. beautiful voices, harmony, soulful. Thank you for sharing this:)

When I was young our family and sometimes aunts and grandparents would gather around the piano after Sunday evening service and sing songs together. This reminds me of those times.

I love this segment of Glenn Campbell with his parents singing a song with him, don’t remember the name of it now… Plus I love this song, till there was you, that the three younger sisters did! With Glenn playing the guitar! Then love the song he did with the three sisters, Mr. Lee! I had no idea about his family! Nice look into his family a bit! Thank you!

Hold on to the memories. It'll help you get through till you join the others. Some times my sister and I wonder what Mama and Daddy and all the friends and family are doing. Daddy and Uncle Jack and Charlie are fixing something. Mama and her cousin and Mimi are shelling peas or putting up something either canning or freezing. Grandma and Aunt Lucy are cooking. Granddaddy is talking and visiting with everybody around . Everybody is young and feeling good.
Miss him so much a great c&w star, RIP, GBU
His mother was a great harmony singer. Very nice.
Angelic voices. Such a precious family.
The entire family are so gifted. Oh, can you imagine a Campbell Christmas!! How many sittings and how much joy with each other.
Well done Glen, family is first. Every time. No wonder you ended up so well 😎
