Beck on bass and Godsmacks drummer Shannon Larkin behind the kit.. not joking.. Beck wrote bass, guitar and drums though, then Shannon played it. Theres an interview with Shannon where he talks about recording this album.

Justin originally was a drummer. And he literally plays the bass like a drum kit. It's really hard to explain but him being a drummer at heart is so apparent in his bass lines. Beck=Musical Genius

Been trying to explain the very thing to my friends, my mom, my doctor, the guy who does my taxes, everyone at a funeral once, and the bagger at wal mart. My favorite guitarist is a drummer.

This was confirmed recently by the session drummer for the record on a podcast. Beck had written most of the parts and taught them to the session guy in rehearsals at the studio.

This is not exaclty like in the album, it's remastered to make it sound a little louder and cleaner. Check the end of "Must’ve Run All Day", the bass part with distortion, its much louder here

@@zs5948 Knowing Justin and Daryl, knowing their process. Seeing them live before they even met Ross. Meeting Ross many times and speaking about those albums and others at his old studio. Hearing the master sessions. Also recording at his current base of operations in Atwater Village two years ago. If you know Ross ask him yourself. He’ll tell you Justin Beck is the genius behind that band and sound. Not one note written or performed or tonality wasn’t created by Justin and Daryl. Not minimizing Ross’s his role in those albums, he bottled what the band already possessed. It’s a great thing. But the word genius doesn’t belong to him in this case in creating these albums. It belongs to the writers and performers. Now Ross did discover GJ and presented them to Roadrunner which although was a mistake in hindsight Beck and Daryl will tell you, it did give them the foundation to get their unique sound out to the mass.
