Glasgow Apollo classic gigs that saw the venue earn legendary status

Ойын-сауық

As every music fan knows, Glasgow crowds are some of the liveliest around and it's fair to say the Apollo Theatre played a major role in cementing that reputation.
In its heyday, the fabled city centre venue played host to some of the biggest names in rock and pop and they all came away stunned by the raucous audience.
The Apollo Theatre really was Glasgow's original music mecca - and, with an official capacity of 3,500, it served as the balcony-shaking benchmark for other similar-sized venues across the world back in the day.

I think Status Quo's legendary first live album which was recorded there in Oct. 76 shall not be forgotten...😊

I was at one of the Bowie gigs there and then went on to see him 3 nights in a row at Earls Court on the same tour a wee while later.

Saw Elton John and Queen in the 70s. Also saw The Stranglers, DEVO, Skidz, Rezillos and a bunch more that escape my memory.

Loved the Apollo first gig I was 13 my older cousin took me to see the Quo 1976 the live album recorded . Then saw them again. 1979 epic . Same year I Saw Queen 30 Nov 79 and Blondie Hogmanay 79 . The who 1981 and the Stones 1982 and I never paid over a fiver a ticket cross my heart lol. Saw a few more bands over the years and glad I experienced the Apollo. Before it was the Apollo it was Greens Playhouse before my time, my older Cousin saw in December 1967 Jimi Hendrix , the Move and Pink Floyd all on the one bill for 15 shillings that’s 90p today he still has his ticket . I’m 61 my cousin is 72 whooosh where have the years went lol when ever I walk past the multiplex Cinema on Renfield street Glasgow the former site of Greens Playhouse/ Apollo my mind drifts back to those times

The Glasgow Apollo (126 Renfield St) was an iconic fire trap. At the Blondie New Year gig the balcony was moving up and down so much the security left the audience to it; "The Clash" gig was rather violent (with seating dismantled and thrown); then a mass sprint for Queen St Station (or be stuck in Glasgow). Saw: "DEVO"; "The Cramps"; "Gary Numan"; "The Skids"; Suzy and the Banshees (I was a bit of a Punk) also "Roxy Music" and "Genesis"... all great gigs. Something about the place seemed to bring out the best in bands playing there... I missed "The Tubes" gig although I had a ticket (I have to live with that) A truly great venue: once the largest cinema in Europe; then "Green's Playhouse" (1973-85); demolished in 1987, after a major fire (but it was falling apart). These days: O2 Academy; Barrowlands and King Tut's Wah Wah Hut: are smaller, but also excellent venues (in their own ways); well that's progress for you...

The actual theatre/auditorium was demolished in late 1988. The front and back of the building was demolished in 1987. The auditorium was left intact untill the latter part of 1988 and was put out of its misery by Burnthills demolition of Johnstone.

Status Quo played there more than any other music artist. But no mention of them. But, predictably you depict "artists" who only played it once or twice as though they are synonymous with the place, which in typical Daily Record style, is very misleading.

Nothing new. Regurgitated information that's been published dozens of times before. Totally pointless video.

It's only " totally pointless" if you've seen the rest of the info you mentioned. If you haven't then it's certainly not pointless. If you claim it's "regurgitated" but don't go on to cite any references then your comment is pointless by any metric!😂
