Gladys and Vernon Presley, the parents of Elvis Presley is interviewed on September 26, 1956. When Elvis returned on a tour in the town he was born, and performed on the same stage that he did when he was little.
At the Mississippi-Alabama Fairgrounds.
On September 26, 1956.
"Elvis Presley Day" is proclaimed in Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis's parents join him as he returns to the town of his birth as a big star. He performs two shows that day at the Mississippi- Alabama Fair and Dairy Show- the same fair at which he had performed at age 10.
He was feted with a parade down Main Street and proclaimed a favorite son by Gov. J.P. Coleman. The day was capped with a concert where Elvis was greeted by screaming fans.
In this interview his parents are talking about what their favorite Elvis songs are.

    it's such a shame she passed at such a young age. I feel if she had been alive, Elvis would not have gone down the destructive path he chose. He missed her terribly. At least they are together now.

    I agree. I was told some wonderful memories of her. She was ahead of her time with race relations in this country. Can’t thank them enough. They were in your face but really funny folks.

    Everybody was so mindful then, respectful of ‘yes mam & yes sir’ that it was easy to carry on in simple conversations-. ...nobody putting on airs but being happy just to talk. ..a lovely time in our history and I sure do miss them days-

    Me too. I was 12 years old when Elvis first came out and mesmerized me first by his voice and then when I saw him, his looks. We respected each other and our great institutions. Screaming at an Elvis concert we considered rebellious.

    This lady did so much for the black community. I’m shocked by this. I never would have guessed. Treated my great grandparents with a lot of respect. That says a lot for me. RIP.

    You know that Gladys and Vernon were so proud of Elvis. A couple of years later Gladys told several people that she wished they were poor again because Elvis was always gone and she missed him so much as I know that Elvis missed his Momma but he was serious about his career and wanted to make money to take care of his parents.

    I have a son my only child he is a lot like Elvis just amazing and all I gotta say is the LOVE if you have love you have God and how wonderful it is when you have love and are heavenly father you got it all and friends that's what GLADYS PRESLEY had that's why her son and mine turned out to be gentleman!!     This is the first time I have heard his mother’s voice! Beautiful people. So polite in the south + Life is so short too. 23 years later all three of them would have passed away. Elvis packed a lot into the 21 years more he had.

    Beautiful people who raised an extraordinary son. So sad she passed away too soon, it really affected him a lot even more so than most people. I cry every time I see the pictures of Elvis crying ): I wish I could give him a hug

    He had wonderful parents and a great upbringing. 😊 They helped to mold him into the special person we all grew to love and miss to this day! You just.can't get enough of him even though he left us way to soon. But he accomplished so much in his short life. Memories he made for us long after he had to go away. Miss you always Elvis and always will. Your still the best this sorry old World has ever had!

    What a beautiful family :) You can just feel the love between them in the photos.. and yes Gladys does have a very sweet feminine voice I didn't expect such a lovely voice! *sigh* It makes me happy to know they'd have such a sweet reunion in the afterlife :) But at the same time they were separated.. But that's just one of life's torturous qualities *sigh*....

    Structure being bone and proportion. What you recognized are the features. He has mom's features n structure of dad's. Mom had a short rounder face where dad's is longer and rectangular. Structure is what u see 1st. Not details.. From a far u recognize structure. You can see that clearly. Tracing it and you see he is more dad from a far.

    Interesting. Gladys was the one constant in Elvis's life. He adored his mother and it is through Gladys had some sense of faith. She was a devout Assembly of God church member. What a shame she died so young. Thanks for sharing this video.

    Wow, did he look just like his father. In a way it was good that Gladys passed away before Elvis died, it would have killed her had he died first. He was her only surviving child and she loved him very much. It was nice to hear his parent's voices, thanks for uploading!
