Gladiator 4XE Prediction

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Jeep is saying we’re finally going to see a Gladiator 4XE in 2025. The 4XE version of the Gladiator has been highly anticipated. Car & Driver speculates that the same hybrid system will be carried over from the Wrangler 4XE but I don’t believe that will be the case. I believe the cause for the delay in the Gladiator 4XE has everything to do with maintaining full horsepower when towing. One thing Jeep can’t do is release a pickup truck that will only have full horsepower for a short time. The current system in the Wrangler 4XE just might not be enough to maintain full power when towing higher payloads. So will they have to upgrade the P1 motor/generator? Will they have to add a third motor/generator to maintain battery power at the expense of fuel efficiency? Whatever Jeep comes up with, it’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

Happy they are coming out with a 4×e gladiator.

I also think that payload has been an issue. The payload capacity for the Gladiator is already lower than most of the competition when you get a more off road spec version like the Rubicon. That softer suspension setup is nice for off-road but it’s then compromised for hauling a load. What a lot of people don’t keep in mind is that your payload is determined by your gross vehicle weight rating minus the weight of the vehicle and accessories. So it’s more than just increasing the spring pressure in the rear to fix the payload issue. The bigger problem is them having to figure out what to do with all of the extra weight of the batteries while still keeping towing and payload numbers competitive and still keeping their standards for off-road performance. That’s a very tricky balance.

Great point, much like how the Chevy Volt (PHEV) had problems maintaining speed going uphill, once its battery charge was low. Probably need a more beefy gas engine, at least like the Pentastar V6 in the Ramcharger. The more power, the better, and even required for towing heavy loads uphill at speed.

I drive a 2017 Volt now and this is so true. Especially driving through the mountains. I can’t remember where I heard this, but I think they’re going to use the hurricane and combine it with the 4xe.

You’re making perfect sense…love it when you go off the electric rail 👍👍👍. Hey folks, if you are hybrid curious, I’m a gas and diesel guy though and through and I love the 4XE. PS speak of CO, ask me how we went off road in the San Juan’s last year (100 mile off road loop), never charged the Jeep the night before and still got 31 miles electric that day 🤔

When I did Ophir Pass, I hit the peak at 1% charge and it stayed there all the way down the back side. So I did all of Ophir in electric. Love those big downhill runs.

THANK YOU. I have been saying this from the git- The 4xe 2.0Lset-up cannot work 'right out of the box' from the Wrangler & be able to tow 6K.

pretty sure its going to have the 2.0L. Jeep doesn't have another hybrid engine option to put in. The Grand Cherokee 4xe has the 2.0L and 6000lb tow rating and I assume the extra weight and batteries will reduce the Gladiator to 6000lb tow rating cap. No one else in their market is a competitor with a hybrid PHEV so trying to best or match their current tow rating isnt really a concern IMO. The gladiator has always been an after thought.

Good points! They might lower the towing capacity or they might enhance the power system. IMO, I doubt they will re-engineer a lot, to avoid costs and to share as much as possible between the the 4xe vehicles. Maybe a bigger battery and P1 or P2 or maybe a more powerful ICE (or some combination). Then again, tthey may of been working on 4xe system improvements, that might first show up on the Gladiator then make their way across the entire 4xe lineup. Looking forward to the 4xe Gladiator.

Complicated....yes. Moving forward things are going to get even more complicated. V-8 is the last thing you want with high gas prices.

The use of the Hurricane I6 has a really big problem because of the heat rejection problem. Going into limp home mode with a dead battery will towing can create a really big safety issue. But a I6 in the Gladiator would be awesome!!! 😊

I think for sure there will be decreased towing capacity. It should be noted that the towing limit on the 4xe has to do with the extra weight of components and the suspension design, if you look at the v6 2024 wrangler with the full float axle it has the capability to tow 5k. The rubicon x wrangler 4xe also has the full float but still limited to 3500, same as the 392. Mind you the 4xe puts out almost similar hp and torque as the 392 so I think it def has the power to tow similar to what current gladiator does but extra weight of battery on suspension will hold it back. And will probably need to run always in hybrid mode to not feel lethargic. We will see, I’m excited though! Would’ve bought a gladiator 4xe had they come out with one this year, been waiting an extra year to see what comes… if not it’s a toss up between wrangler 4xe or the ramcharger

I believe it will be a 2nd gen 4xe system or a ram charger, but with the i4 hurricane engine. I like the ram charger idea so that way we can still have decent range when off-roading.

I feel like the Direct Injection 2.0 that it currently has might be the wrong engine for the job. Seems like it’s caused too many issues. Micky Bly said it’s hybrid compatible and that it will work on multiple platforms. So you may be right on.

Jeep likes to do an exterior/interior refresh and follow it a year later with a powertrain change/update. So, along with a Gladiator 4xe, I would also expect a next version of the 4xe system in the Wrangler. What remains to be seen is if that means a bigger battery and/or changes to P1/P2 and gas engine in the Wrangler too. It would be really nice if a more capable system for Gladiator would be shared with the Wrangler and make for a frighteningly capable Wrangler and a workable Gladiator.

Dear host ......would u maybe consider doing a video on when its best to use e-save vs hybrid vs ice? Uve addressed it in micro presentations but not as a solid group i think?. For instance....going up a long hill, down a long hill, highway, when the car is heavy, rain/ snow/ cold, city, etc. Also......are there people who have max regen all the time? I think i read on someone who does have it activated all the time... but it always feels counterintuitive to me when accelerating. Sorry if uve repeated urself on these topics. Thank u and kindly!! Ja

Quick question for you? I’m thinking about getting a Rubicon 4xe X soon….should I wait until or buy one this year? I’m afraid of dropping a bunch of cash on a Jeep that will have the engine refined so that the electric side will produce more miles on a charge….appreciate your videos!

I can give u my opin if the host of the channel doesn't mind? I leased a wrangler 2024 4xe last November. I usually just buy cars but the lease deals are great. More importantly.. ..I think the technology is going to change so rapidly in the nxt 5 yrs that I didn't necessarily want to be stuck w an antiquated drivetrain. We have been discussing this very point since I joined the channel and the host has taught me a lot. It took adjusting to conceptualize leasing a car.......but.. ... I'm not getting any younger, so I'm not going to let " ideology" dictate my decisions anymore.
