    Justin back in the day I used to do our truck alignments, using a tape measure. Every three months or so, I would do it on our entire fleet of Simi Trucks. Glad I don't have to do that anymore, now I just worry about my own truck and trailer and the other drivers are responsible for getting theirs done. My dad finally let me hit the road back in the early 2000s , I hated being stuck in town and having to help manage the company, I just wanted to be a regular driver like everybody else.

    Hi Justin. I drive Concrete in NYC, live on Long Island 65 mile round-trip commute. I drive a Tesla model 3 long range. Cost me less than four dollars per day in electric. I use 16 kW per day at $.23 a kilowatt home charging. (New York rates) I plug into a Nema 14-50. Takes about 2 1/2 hours to charge at home. I drive to Tampa Florida area often with my Tesla. I stop about 5 to 6 times, about 20 minutes per charging session. You’re not trying to charge the battery to full. Just enough to get to the next refresh break. When you plug into a supercharger the Netwerk automatically knows your car and charges your account. Just plug in nothing else. I was never a believer until I took a test drive and was sold instantly. If you get a chance, take one for a test drive. If you make an appointment with Tesla they will give you the car for an hour and you can take it wherever you want by yourself to really test it. The next time I’d be passing through would be February. I would definitely meet up with you and let you drive mine. These cars give your Hellcat a run for their money. lol. The performance model does 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds faster than a hellcat. I get some hate on the road for driving it, especially from pick up trucks. The funny thing is they don’t know I drive a Mack truck for a living and burn about 40 gallons of diesel a day. 😂

    To be clear I’m referring to a dodge minivan as I relate this but it may be something to discuss at some point in relation to other vehicles with someone who’s dealt with it. When I originally bought the van new it called for conventional oil being used. I used it to drive my mom around along with longer distance trips and didn’t have any issues while she was alive. After she passed and changed jobs to making Amazon/ office supply deliveries at around 65K miles due to having more difficulty getting conventional oil. Since there was no noticeable issues I switched it to synthetic and didn’t notice any problems until about 120K. I started hearing lifter noise and awhile later out of nowhere it started making sounds like there was rocks in the engine. By the time I towed it home and looked at it I found pieces of the valve train in the valve cover. I never had the money to repair it but there was a couple service managers I talked to that said you should never use synthetic after running conventional oil in an engine and my experience may seem to bear this out. I don’t know if it’s different from a blend or even with a diesel since the oils may be better quality but since your engine has been rebuilt recently and before you get too many more miles on the clock I figured you could confer with multiple people and get a consensus on future oil usages. Don’t want to cause worries but if it saves anyone expense it would be worth my blathering on I guess. Maybe some truckers have had experiences they could relate on this. 🤷🏻‍♂️🙏 Have a good one Justin.

    Justin, there was a couple I think on Facebook. They somehow had 2 Teslas, maybe on a short lease or something. They decided not to keep them for a variety of reasons. Part of it was that it was more costly to charge them, than the cost of gas. Also took a bit to charge them. Traded them both in on 2 Dodge Ram trucks. Said they didn’t want the Tesla’s for the winter for sure.

    Unless that couple was only charging at public charging stations and did not have the capability to charge from home most of the time, there's no way their Tesla's were more expensive to fuel up than a gas or diesel vehicle. The average price of electricity in the US is 0.14 cents per kwha and many utilities offer a lower rate for energy used during off-peak times, like after midnight. That couple switched back to gas/Diesel for other reasons than cost of fuel.

She was happy that I got the load to go to Canada and she's going with me tag teaming driving. Taking one of the new Peterbilts and the Peterbilt dealership had Apu system's installed in them. A driver had one installed in his truck and he likes it I seen it earlier today when he got back. And he said it's way better than running the engine on idle all night to keep warm or cool or to use the motor to continuing to charge the battery's to watch TV or other things. I told him he'll the generator does the same thing and he's like how the hell do u keep the motor warm without plugging it in to keep the motor warm and I showed him he was like that's cool. Only thing I don't like about Apu system's is that u have to use there own customized vents. And I don't want to change anything in my dad's truck. To me it's still my dad's truck and next year I will be retiring it caise it has to many miles on it. Plus people are always offering $$$$$ for it. I just purchased a 2000 Kenworth W900 Studio Sleeper. It's almost like your sleeper but with no top bunk it has cabinets for shelves and a medium size fridge and microwave and I installed a 25 imch smart tv and the stereo system is killer Jessie was like dam it's loud just the way we like it. Waiting for the bigger smoke stacks to arrive and will install them. We will keep Black Dog in the family (The Name of the Kenworth thats my dad's truck. We bought a 2020 Tesla Model 3 long range dual motor. Paid about $52,000 new. Long trips aren’t bad at all. Start with full battery charged at home with a $500 charger plus electrician install, drive about 250 miles, depending on mountains and cold weather, take a rest break at the supercharger, add about 150 miles of range in about 20-30 minutes, and off to the next charger. Run towards empty, charges faster. Then at destination, charge back to 90%. Best part of Tesla supercharging is just plug it in. Pump communicates with car, looks up my account. Credit card on file. No fiddling with a phone app or lcd screen that sits in the sun all day.

  • @SteveCChapman

    @SteveCChapman

    Жыл бұрын

    Some Teslas sold came with limited or lifetime free supercharging, as a promotion. Charging at home from 10% to 90% takes about 4 hours. I set it to start at 10pm at night to get cheaper KWh rates from the electric company. Some high volume charge stations may have an attendant to direct each car on and off the pumps to keep it flowing more efficiently. Or that could have been a maintenance electrician, not sure. The Tesla supercharging network has been around for about 10 years. Adding more stations and pumps where needed. From Philly to NYC, for example, you choose from about 16 charge locations to stop once or twice. Plenty of availability. There are a few locations on the west coast where cars queue up, not enough supply for the demand. Those make the news. The 20,000 other locations that work perfectly every time don’t make the news. Go figure.

    A fan and a Tesla owner here. What you saw was a Tesla Supercharger (known as a Level 3 charger) which will charge any size Tesla car in about 15-30 minutes. Depending on the range our your car you will get 250-400 miles out of that charging session. The cars munis where these chargers are and when you are traveling long distances the car will direct you to the charging stations as part of the navigation to ensure you can go anywhere you need to. If you are charging at home as you would do around 90% of the time you would get a level 2 charging plug installed. This can be something fancy from Tesla or it can just be a dryer/rv style plug. This will typically charge your car fully overnight so you leave each morning with a “full tank”. Level 1 charging is using a household plug and that will take a day or more to charge so typically it is only a last resort for an EV. If you are ever driving by a Supercharger again and are curious, I would tell you to stop and talk to one of the owners. We are often approached by other people when we are charging and most Tesla owners love to talk about their cars and EVs in general. If you are lucky maybe someone will give you a ride in a performance or plaid model and you can get a feel for the ridiculous full torque acceleration Teslas in particular can deliver. The plaid model S sedan can do 0-60 in 1.99 seconds or so. 😮

    @@repairvehicle Tesla has publicly stated that the Semi can be charged to 70% in 30 minutes. Pepsi, who is taking delivery of the first Tesla Semi has had an opportunity to test the Semi with the "Mega" charger, do you think a fleet buyer would buy a vehicle if the selling company was lying about the specs of the truck? Do you think all the big companies who have signed up to purchase the Tesla Semi wouldn't test the vehicle before actually buying the vehicle? Is there any chance the 30 minute 70% charge claim is not going to be the first thing these companies check out? I would almost bet the the contracts for purchase require the Tesla Semi to meet Tesla's charging claims. These big companies are not Idiots, they have Lawyers to draft the sales contracts to protect themselves. So, yeah, The Tesla Semi can be charged to 70% within 30 minutes.

    How much does it cost to charge a Tesla 2022? If you purchase the 2022 standard Model 3, you can expect to pay about $10.94 to fully charge the battery. That brings the cost per mile to about $0.04, or $4.02 per 100 miles. Completely charging the 2022 Performance model would cost $14.39. That's about $0.046 per mile.

    Some Tesla's don't have to pay depending on when you bought it or if you used a referral code when you purchased it. The infotainment screen in the car has netflix, youtube and video games you can play while you wait for the car to charge. Also as a trucker you know how important stop can be to stretch your legs etc, so you don't get fatigue. Too many people treat road trips like a NASCAR race

    Justin, you just need to test drive any Tesla, that is the only way to understand the Tesla experience. Ninety percent of your charging is done at home and often utilities have a lower rate for charging at night so you can really get your transportation for cheap. While you can charge an EV from a 120v outlet, it takes a long time and is usually only done if 240v is not available. Most people have a charging station installed in their garage that uses 240v and they charge their EVs overnight. This way you always start your day with a full "tank" of fuel. My wife loved the fact that she never had to go to the gas station while we had our Chevy Volt. Generally speaking, you don't use the public charging stations unless you are on a road trip. Trucking Wife would probably love the Tesla Model Y for shuttling the kids around and the Tesla's have plenty of range to get you to your lake house. Many people think about the range not being enough to fit their needs, however, when you ask them how many times in the last few years they took a long road trip, their answer is usually zero or one. People are also concerned about the charging times being too long, again, in reality it takes 20 to 30 minutes to get fuel, get refreshed, and get lunch (especially if you have a family) that turns out to be about the same time it takes to charge most "newer" EVs. You should hook up with KZreadr Tesla Barbarian the next time you get down to Florida, he loves to give people rides in his Tesla to get their honest reaction. He recently gave a ride to a real EV sceptic and honestly changed the sceptic's mind about EVs. Check out his channel for that video, it is worth a watch. PS: Your boys may never own a gasoline powered vehicle, because, EVs are becoming so popular.
