Gavin: Don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers Gavin, 30 seconds later: *angry rant with spoilers* 😂
The pervert at the local café?! Who, what, why? What did I miss?
SILENT PATIENT SPOILERS BELOW . I think Alicia killed her husband because Theo posed the question to her husband about choosing between him (the husband) dying and her (Alicia) dying. When Alicia’s husband chose himself over her, her heart (and mind?) broke, and after Theo left she killed him for being a selfish lying cheater (with Theo’s wife). Def a confusing climax lmao

The irony!
SPOILERS: I actually really liked the ending of The Turn of the Key - I interpreted it as that she wrote all those letters all paranoid and confused about why she was being accused, and then she found out that the kid did it and decided not to send the letters and go to jail to protect the living kid. I loved that.

Love the chaotic cats and you just pausing each time to let them do their thing. 😄 And they're getting so big! 😻
I just found your channel and had to say, speaking as a librarian, your love for the library makes me so happy!
As a former barista it warm my heart to see your mini Starbucks set up 😊
Yesssss! Anything over an hour makes me so happy 😍 Thank you Gavin! I’ve been sick for 6 days now 🤒 and this is gonna help me feel better ❤

me too!
As a Library Assistant in a neighbouring county I just want to say that you’re not dim at all! All of our libraries are linked so you only need one card so I totally understand why you would think that. And the majority of times we have trouble finding books when they’re on display stands and so we would never expect the patrons to be able to find them. I’m a bit torn when it comes to volunteers because it means the library stays open which is awesome. But it also means that at some point the council made all the library workers redundant and staffed them with people who don’t know the job as well as we do. Let’s just blame the Tories for the public spending cuts shall we.
I've been using this video to fall asleep to for the past week or so and I finally made it to the end! I love your long vlogs
Had a long day at work so happy to finally unwind with this blog!
I love that you did a follow up on this and I totally loved The Silent Patient and I also really enjoyed Home Before Dark and The Turn of the Key!
Gavin as a Barista for Witches. Ok, someone please trademark this immediately.
Omg Gavin, you have the cutest Coffee Setup. I love the syrup bottles.
Lock Every Door is actually so good too! You should def give it a try! My heart was racing 😂

As a librarian I love hearing your story of being at the branch! I work in a city with several different systems and we know it can be confusing for patrons and are always happy to help folks get the right card!

This was so fun! You’ve also made me want to pick up the only Riley Sager on my TBR! ☺️🤞
That sweater you are wearing is the ultimate sweater with tea and books! where did you get it!?!?!?!?! My absolute favourite Riley Sagar was The last time I lied, it was AMAZING.
I haven't read any of Ruth Ware's other books besides In A Dark, Dark Wood but I loved it. I feel like you would like that one a lot more. Definitely no letter format at all :)
The awkward part when you guessed the plot twist for The Silent Patient just from Gavin explaining the plot at the beginning 😅😂
i haven't read any of these books, but i could listen to you talk about them forever
Hi Gavin! I love your sweater at 7:06! I swear you have the cutest sweaters or pull overs. I love your reading vlogs, no matter how long, they always inspire me to get back into reading and I always end up book shopping after your videos hehe! Thanks for the great content (:
Omg I love Devon Bumpkin too! I have his videos playing when I do homework sometimes. Also glad you found a book you enjoyed finally 😂
I am really enjoying binging your back catalogue.
Ok the coffee content was top notch. The bing bangs of the cups and head bobs 🤣 amazing.
if you want a seamless milk pour, you wanna block the foam with the spoon as you pour and then scoop a little of the foam on the top! Thats how I did it as a barista back in the day :)
Yay I'm glad you liked "The Kind Worth Killing!" When I read Chapter 15, I was so shocked I just sat there stunned for several minutes, then proceeded to tell my roommate all about it. I didn't rate "The Silent Patient" or "The Turn of the Key" as low as you did, but I did think they were slightly overhyped.
Yay I voted for The Kind Worth Killing on your community post and I was right. 🥳 but yeah I agree regarding not reading anymore of his books. Too many books on my TBR shelf, I'd rather focus on those.
So many funny things in this video! Thanks for sharing. I’ve read 2 of the 4 books. The Silent Patient and The Kind Worth Killing. Honestly couldn’t remember anything until you mentioned the spoilers. Granted, I did read them in 2019 and 2018, respectively.
The Turn of the Key is actually a Turn of the Screw retelling, which explains a lot, including the epistolary format, and the deal with the kids. The original also leaves you torn about what happened.
I feel the same way about every thriller I ever tried to read. I question everything too much to enjoy the genre.
Spoiler for Home Before Dark!! For Home Before Dark, I think the reason why in the past Maggie would see the ghosts right in front of her parents and they couldn’t see is because that was from her dad’s book. He exaggerated a lot of things to cover up why they left and make it seem like a real haunted house.
@GavinReadsItAll

Ah I think you're absolutely right, I totally mixed up my memory with that one haha
@rosebaeza3564
Жыл бұрын
Haha I did the same thing and had to keep reminding myself the dad’s book was a cover up lol
**Turn of the Key Spoilers!** Yeah, she decided not to send the letters because after she found out the younger kid was responsible for the death she was trying to protect her and just accepted the blame!
when you said its like your serving witches coffee, my first thought was legends and lattes! its a high fantasy with low stakes, aka cozy fantasy, where an orc is opening a coffee shop after leaving her mercenary job behind where barely anyone knows what coffee is! its very wholesome and short so please give a read : )
33:00 I feel the same way about the format for The Turn of the Key. I very rarely like a letter format in books. I did love Turn of the Key though, once I suspended my disbelief about the format.
It's so interesting how you explained Home Before Dark because it shows me that Riley Sager seems to have a formula. Even though the concepts were totally different, the method of it unraveling and your feelings towards the twists really reminded me of how I felt in Lock Every Door. I hated that book lol (I'm just not a thriller person). But I'd be super curious to see you read it!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
omg your cats are the cutest!
I loved this and waited all day for it 😂
you should’ve read lock every door 🤭 i agree with all your opinions in this. the peter swanson is the only one i haven’t read yet. lock every door is the only one i gave 5 stars.
It might be a Monday, but it's ok because Gavin's uploaded a feature-length movie!
Your kettles shirt is giving me life.
omg i was right with my vote on the poll! idk why but i just thought you would like the peter swanson the most
had to laugh a little at your review on the books. I had the same questions and reactions for the most part. On "home before dark" was a little bit confused at the very end. Was there a ghost? I rated them just slightly different but pretty much felt the same things and questions. This vid was a good one for my rainy fall day. thank you.
As someone with depression I hate The Silent Patient. I felt like it was a huge disservice to people with mental disorders and the field of psychiatry.
How do you have the time to read so much!!? We love a content king 👑

Very true. I am starting a new job in November, I had basically September and October free, and I managed to read about 15-17 books in this space of time. I have no idea how these booktubers read double that in one single month and even have jobs on the side lmao
The Witches Brew sign is adorable 🥺
You can't nonchalantly bring up the local pervert in your Cafe and not elaborate lmao. I need to know deets
I agree about the twist after the twist for home before dark
That was fun- I liked the Silent patient as did the rest of my book club. Home Before Dark was ok….it was a really fun read but I didn’t like the twists at the end. Turn is the Key is one I’m excited to read ! Bummed you didn’t like it that much. Thanks for making it easy to skip over the spoilers.
The silent patient was my least favorite book of 2022. I disliked it so much that I completely stopped reading thrillers after, which might be a bit dramatic but it's true 😂
I consider the Silent Patient one of the worst books I've ever read, I was so mad while reading it! The behaviour of the main character and the shit he pulled at his workplace (a freaking hospital!!) and basically was allowed to do it... I couldn't master enough suspension of disbelief to go along with the story.
I totally get why you’re a ‘Parks and Recreation’ Fan because you never fail to #TreatYoself (or treating us to good videos)
Can someone point me to the vlog that gives the origin story for the pervert? I'm in the dark 😅
Glad to see another Devon Bumpkin fan. 💜
I love rant Gavin 😂
I watch your channel like I watch Gilmore Girls…watch all the way through to the most recent upload and then go back and rewatch everything 😂
As to the silent patient, you did miss the connection.
Barista here! The banging of the jug on the work surface gets rid of any bigger bubbles in the milk so that you get a smoother texture. Makes the art prettier too. 👀
I swear when your videos are over an hour long it’s like a present from the gods 🫶🏻✨
I would buy a Gavin coffee ☕️ Does it come with a side of book chats or gossip? 😉
I felt the EXACT same about a silent Patient and Turn of the Key. The ending of Turn of the Key I was so mad and disappointed! Lol after reading some of the most common and hyped Author’s books I also wondered if I didn’t like thrillers 😅 maybe I’m just picky idk but I feel your pain. Thank you for this.
I rewatched the Summerween videos in anticipation for this and I must admit, from the way Gavin and also Lala describe thriller books...some may have their appeal and charm, but they seem to often collapse in on themselves with outrageous plot twists or are too predictable. The only pure thrillers I think I have read recently were The Last House on Needless Street and I'm Thinking of Ending Things, both of which I liked, but I think I gave them like 3.75 and 3.5 respectively. I'd like to discover some great thriller books/authors, but it looks like a really difficult sea to wade through.
Great video, I was in the minority of those who voted for Peter Swanson, I read it a while ago and was pretty invested in the story, whilst never being bothered about reading any of his other books! x
Ouch, Gavin! This one hurt. 😄 I haven't read The Kind Worth Killing but my order for the others is... 1. Silent Patient 2. Turn of the Key 3. Home Before Dark You made great points though, especially with Turn of the Key, but I think my rating is more on enjoyment. 👀😁 Ouch! 🤭
The Turn of the Key was good until Gavin ordered food without telling his housemate 👀

I thought karma wasn’t real 😭
OK... I got 3.5£ and getting train connections! Get the mug ready. I hope you have biscotti too
Oh and banging the milk takes the air bubbles out of the froth so it’s smoother 😊
I actually really enjoyed Turn of the Key. The Silent Patient I read long enough ago that I can't truly remember my thoughts about it. I still need to read the other two.
I need to know more about the cafe perverts. What did I miss? 🧐
Gavin has returned with a feast of a video. Also, I’m going to find out whether you’re like Mr. Darcy whose good opinion once lost is lost forever lol
I did enjoy the ones of these books that I've read. The Silent Patient and Home Before Dark were both enjoyable reads for me. I haven't read The Turn of the Key or The Kind Worth Killing, but I plan to read both. I do like some of Ware's early stuff, but I'm not usually a Peter Swanson fan.
Former barista here; you bang the milk on the counter after steaming it to eliminate bubbles. That way you get a more creamy consistency. ^^
❤ I absolutely love your sweatshirt! (With the teapots) Where is it from?
yes i'm months late but i loved this vlog!!!
49:25 not me expecting the "pervert" to jump out the bushes!! 🤦♀️😳
I was so happy that you read one of my favorite thrillers, The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. I was like "yeah you will regret the beginning there lol" and well yeah it turned out to be the best of the lot for these. I've read a few others of his books but the only one that comes at least a bit close to it is Her Every Fear. What are your other favorites? Other then that, great video overall ty for this :)
"When they go low,you go lower" gavin 2022 😂😂😂
Very glad you enjoyed The Kind Worth Killing. 😊 What did you think of the last chapter?
@fridahultgren8865

Exactly! Forgot to mention that in my comment. That is just my favorite part of the book :D
Gavin: “Patrick Swanson doesn’t have an original idea in his mind.” Also Gavin: (takes generous sips of Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino) (Just kidding plz don’t hate me)
Haha it seems we have a similar mindset when it comes to things that irk us in thrillers!
I’m most concerned with why your coffee was on the floor whilst you were sitting on the toilet 😂
Maybe as another follow up, reading book tubes most hyped thrillers?
I truly despised The Silent Patient. I'm so glad you hated it lol. 😛 I have watched so many positive reviews of that book, and I just could not understand.
The Kind Worth Killing spoilers had me SHOCKED I wasn’t expecting you to enjoy the Swanson book

Why? It's his best one :)
The moment you said you'd just eat a plate of chicken nuggets, I was like this man is chef's kiss 💋 lol
silent patient is one of my fav books !
Did you ever read in a dark dark woods by Ruth ware? Have you read The It Girl? Haha haha. It’s cool. I like you bunches. You read tons. Enjoy!! I love your vlog. I stayed up last night and watched your haunted 21/2 hour vlog. What a gorgeous gorgeous apt. Those linens and bedding’s looked soooo comfortable. Take care. ✌🏻🤠
Sad you didn't enjoy all the thrillers but I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on them all😁
I had to drag myself through the silent patient 😴
I hated the silent patient, first part looked promising and I was interested but then it went downhill pretty fast. It was awful.
There will be a sequel to “The kind worth killing”
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that didn't like Turn of the Key! I swear if I heard one more person rave about that awful book I was going to quit booktube 😅
