Awesome video man! Glad you are getting sponsored videos. I upgraded my SD to 1TB as well. Totally didn't do that battery saving mode thing and didn't even disconnect the battery. I used a screw driver instead of a pry tool and it left an ugly mark. Also I left my 512GB SD card in the STEAM deck and cracked it in half when I opened the case. Worked in the end though!

I did find it useful! I've been considering upgrading my drive forever but those cache updates that Steam does drive me crazy. As it is, I have a 1tb SSD full of games along with the 512 MB internal (also full) and whenever I restart the deck, it takes forever to update all those games.

Fun fact if you put one of these SSDs on top of an SD card you'll notice that it's smaller and the only part sticking off the SD card is where the notch is. And for those that are confused I said SD card not micro SD card. Second fun fact there is such thing as a mini SD card but they were only around for a brief second so you've probably never seen one even if you're as old as me. Irl my dad did buy a micro SD card that came with both a full sized and mini adapter. That's the closest thing I've ever gotten to seeing one.

I got a used 64gb steam deck last year. I upgraded to a 1tb ssd and swapped out the old noisier fan for the newer slightly less noisy fan. Was all surprisingly easy. Somehow I managed to forget to switch off the deck and did the fan swap in standby mode. Ooooop. 😅. But everything worked out okay. Just after that, steam lowered the prices before the OLED came out, so I didn't actually save any money buying a nearly 2 year old used model 😂. But at least I know my way around the inside now. My deck never leaves my house. Too bulky, but it's perfect for playing on the couch or in bed like you say. Also I used to try and run everything at as high settings as I could get away with. But these days I usually play on medium settings for less heat and more battery. Thanks for another great video dweeby. Are we getting any cool console art merch soon?

@@TechDweeb It depends what fan you started off with. If you have the 'Delta Fan' then you can upgrade it to the quieter 'Huaying' fan. Only the early models used the delta, the later models all came with the Huaying fan as standard. I don't think it will be as quiet as the OLED though, as it's much more efficient and produces less heat to start off with. Have you tried switching between the two different fan curves?

This video is great! Ive been very hesitant to mess with my deck because I dumb and clumsy and this video makes me feel like I can actually make some improvements. I am a little confused however, about how to handle replacing the data on the old drive. If you have been using your deck for a while and completely remove the SSD I assume you would have to reinstall all the apps, mods, shader caches etc that were on the old drive. Is there an easy way to back that stuff up? Do you just have to start from scratch? Was this addressed in the video and I totally missed it? I am very new to all this and I feel like I am at the point where i know just enough about it to confidently say that I have no idea what Im doing. Any advice or resources are very much appreciated. Thank you so much for the concise and entertaining video.

If you want to copy everything from the original drive into a larger one, then you need to clone your original SSD with either a software or a disc clone device. The software is available free, but you'd still need a USB adapter to plug both drives into your computer.

Baldur's Gate 3 - 145 GB, Uncharted - 125 GB, Mass Effect Legendary Edition - 110 GB, Middle Earth: Shadow of War - 110 GB, and that's without the HD textures and video packs some of those have, which saves about 100 GB. Add in 10-15 games around 50-70 GB each (MHW, Like a Dragon, Pillars of Eternity 2, etc.), and it really starts to add up. Overall, 144 games installed and roughly 640 GB of free space available between the SSD and the SSD.
