I wrote this as a standalone comment then I saw this pinned comment here and figured it had a higher chance of being seen. I love me the Alanis King videos 9n this channel. She has great energy with Doug. They both match each others enthusiasm and taste for just the worst, weirdest automobiles. She also seems to have a similar memory of all the oddballs so it fun to hear them bounce back and forth with their oddball opinions. Its always hard to give constructive feedback to someone on the internet, especially when you already enjoy what they do, because you dont want to put a damper on their day if they just breeze past the comment and take it as an overall negative one, especially because for them this experience is many to one when for me its one to one, but that being said, I do think there is one area that would make me like Alanis King content even more. Sometimes when she is expressing her love of a vehicle with that signature squeal, (and thats great, and a part of her character), it feels like the squeal ends up replacing/overstepping the rest of her opinion on the vehicle she's talking about (maybe because Doug thinks shes done talking or conversation pacing or whatever reason), when I really like and want to hear the full opinion with all the nuance of the opinion and about all the little stupid details Im sure both she and Doug are absolutely jaw drop enamoured with (which is great and part of what makes the dynamic so good). Hopefully this came across well if its ever seen and I dont come across like an ass. I really like the Doug x Alanis videos and that great dynamic and wealth of knowledge they both bring so this comment was in no way meant to come across as overall negative or at all harsh. Thanks for the entertainment.

An AZ-1 can fit up to probably 6'6" if you take out the seat bottom foam (like 2 seconds, super easy and tool-less) and replace it with a thin yoga mat cut to size. @usmcplu

@@jasonfleming7398 I'm with you. I'm a Civic guy myself, but new (non-GR), sportier Corollas bridge that gap between Corolla and Civic a little more than they used to. Especially with V-Tech no longer "kickin' in yo", like it used to at the end of the RPM range (which made it feel a little extra special and rewarding for high rpm rips). Now Corollas get beautiful, white moonstone leather interior with awesome seats and luxury bits. You still get stick shift. The short wheel base makes this thing handle like a spider. You're right though, it's still a little duller than a Civic Si, but you have to WORK for those fun moments and that's the spirit of these entry level "sporty" cars. Back then, none of these cars were great BTW. They were all limp and lackluster. You had to modify them. Nothing's changed now. People expect everything to be awesome from the factory, but that' s never been the case with these economy grade Japanese cars. If you want something less dull, YOU have to make it less dull.
@-BuddyGuy
10 ай бұрын
@@usmcpluOld civics had double wishbone suspension at the front and old corollas had rear wheel drive, if you were willing to drive the stink out of them they were properly rewarding. I think with Japanese cars there's nothing unnecessary there, and with that kind of simplicity and reliability it's really easy to take it to the limit and understand exactly what will happen. You don't really get that with American cars or European cars which will do a wibble wobble or blow up or both

I'd rather have something like a Miata or an X1/9 that I can use all of its power on a winding back road and still be under the speed limit and the car's limits. I don't understand the point of monster horsepower for the road. Where can you use all that power safely and legally? Give it a little too much gas in the wrong place and it'll be sliding off the road into something that's going to be very expensive to hit. Slow car fast and all that.

A couple of Alanis picks sound like pining for the days of yore when cars were just simpler/cheaper. I think a lot of people nowadays look back on their bread and butter cars they had in the 80s and 90s, the Cavaliers, the Celicas, the Blazers(s10 model) very fondly. Many had no power, slushy shifters,, what not, but they were fun, and today with all the sound deading and everything has over 300hp but weighs over 2 tons, and all the tech and traction control and what not they're not as 'fun' as that old beater you drove in your 20s, so for that, good picks. :)

Plus, it's slow and quiet enough to be able to truly push to its limits and no one will bat an eye. But don't let that fool you, it can break its tires loose on a dry, hot, summer day
The big problem with the SLK55 is the price. They haven't come down to where I think they should be, which is low to mid 20's. They're still fetching $35-45k. And if you haven't found one where the hydraulics for the top haven't been replaced, well, just run away. That's a $5000-6000 repair.

Alanis bringing the chaos to this video
The manual Corolla will outlast any of these other cars😂
Alanis likely drove either the regular Corolla SE or the SE Apex Edition as a press vehicle last year; the Apex is more bare bones in features but has the stiff suspension, so she is correct on that rental aspect but the regular SE is a little better equipped in which it has a moonroof. Either way, Toyota decided to kill the manual transmissions for 2023 on the regular Corollas (obviously not GR)
Y'all, you don't have to say "yes, yes, uh huh" constantly while the other talks.
Definitely agree with the Corolla. We might just be starved for lightweight though. Adding lightness helps steering and handling so much!
As a Corolla owner, I can confirm we have no emotional attachments to a Corolla. I've had 5 years of completely reliable driving and I've been bored every second behind the wheel.
The base model Mini hatch with the 3 cylinder engine. I was surprised on how refined it was for a 3cyl and it handled like a go kart. For driving around town I’d rather have that than a JCW.
I have had the pleasure of driving a Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo on the German Autobahn and it is truly fantastic in that context. It has massive power and the acceleration from, for example, 170 to 240 Km/h (105 to 150 mph) is lightning fast and like a super sports car. The comfort is very good, but the driving dynamics are absolutely fantastic. You quickly forget that you are sitting in an electric car. It's so good and you really just sit and smile the whole way through.
This is like the perfect juxtaposition between rich east coast snooty car enthusiast and the car enthusiast who just likes throwing around shitboxes lmao
I have to agree with the base model, manual transmission corolla, sometimes having something with less power and less options is fun to throw around and use to its fullest extent. Plus it’s a Toyota it can take whatever you throw at it
I could vouch for manual Corolla it is fun. The clutch engagement is the same way as Doug’s Carrera GT. You have to let off the clutch almost completely before you give it throttle. It doesn’t like to be driven the traditional way it super car like.
Nah, I’m actually with Alanis on this one. I own a 2020 Corolla as my daily driver…..and I’m guessing I’m doing even worse than Alanis because mine is an automatic and slow…..BUT, once it’s moving, it actually handles REALLY good, at least for what it is, it doesn’t have any business being as good as it is, and yet it is. As a cheap daily, which doesn’t cause ANY headaches at all….when it comes to fun, you could do waaaay worse than the Corolla. I LOOOOVE MY COROLLA
In many jurisdictions the Polaris Slingshot is considered a motorcycle or autocycles, so I find it funny you keep bringing up as a "car" on your car centric channel.

Bringing friends in was a great idea. It's more interesting to listen to Doug discussing things rather than just describing car gimmicks.
Doug you might want to just switch Alanis’s controversial cars video with this one because damn.
10:38 If you put a Lamborghini Urus badge on the RSQ8 most people would not question it. That's the problem with the Urus.
that was so much fun to watch. please do a part 2 to this
I want an az1, my only fear is someone in a lifted booster seat truck won't see me

Get a dune buggy flag.
I appreciate Alanis because she's a ray of sunny chaos. Manual Corolla is the correct answer
I have a rental Venue while my vette is in the shop, and I love it.
Doug, didn't you start as a Porsche employee? You absolutely are a Porsche person. Own it!
You can tell they both get excited about a car when they start talking over each other
I'm sorry Doug but YOU ARE WRONG about the Venue. I recently rented one and IT IS FUN! Not every car is fun in the same way, but this tiny cross over sure is fun to get about your daily commute and even weekend driving! It is fun just to think about how something so tiny (near kei car spec) and so cheap (under $20k) can be so practical and drive so well! It even has wireless Android Auto/Apple Carl Play!
You can literally cut the sexual tension with a lightened flywheel😂
A lifted Smart Car convertible. I've got a bunch of cars to drive, but this one is my daily driver. So fun and weird as heck. Plus it was an easy and entertaining project.
Fantastic video, you two spar magnificently!
Manual corolla, I'd a drive it like you stole it car. So much fun becUse it would cost nothing to fix. My friend had an old manual neon and I would drive it every chance I had because I would beat it to death and throw it into corners and it was terrific fun and lower speedster a porsche or higher end car.
I actually 100% agree about the Corolla! I had one as a rental (automatic) once when the Merc was in the shop, and it was the most fun I've ever had on the road! It's small and light and handles great; you can really zip around traffic and fly into parking spots!
I definitely agree with Alanis, slow kind of bad cars with manual transmissions are so much fun. I have a 2003 Toyota Echo with a manual as an extra cheap beater car and despite that car being slow and objectively pretty bad, I have so much fun driving it around

we really don't care this is about you and your Corolla
I’m not watching your channel anymore if I’ll se her one more time!!!!!!!!!
Of course the rental spec Corolla is fun. Clarkson himself said the best car to drive is the one you don’t own.
At the beginning of the Mk7 Golf’s lifecycle in the US there was a Golf “Special Edition” that was a 2 door, manual 1.8t with like absolutely no features and it was my favorite out of all of the Mk7 Golf/GTI/R because it felt like driving modernized Mk1 Golf/Rabbit.
Doug needs to give us his Porsche cookie recipe

I really value that Doug doesn't get stuck in the automotive echo chamber of most KZread channels. Too many car people just shout the same opinions over and over again and it makes being a car person incredibly boring. Thanks Doug!

He actually likes cars. Most automotive youtubers dont like cars, they like flashy expensive items, that's why most of them also do watches and you see them with expensive clothing.
This is hilarious 😂😂 keep it going guys!
Loving the New Zealand t-shirt. ❤
Love the Hyundai Venue. Small outside, big inside. Great city car.
Looking forward to your Grand Highlander, Lexus TX, and ID Buzz Longwheelbase videos!
I don’t think anyone says the Slingshot won’t be fun. I think they say that you’ll look like a dork driving one.
