I wrote this as a standalone comment then I saw this pinned comment here and figured it had a higher chance of being seen. I love me the Alanis King videos 9n this channel. She has great energy with Doug. They both match each others enthusiasm and taste for just the worst, weirdest automobiles. She also seems to have a similar memory of all the oddballs so it fun to hear them bounce back and forth with their oddball opinions. Its always hard to give constructive feedback to someone on the internet, especially when you already enjoy what they do, because you dont want to put a damper on their day if they just breeze past the comment and take it as an overall negative one, especially because for them this experience is many to one when for me its one to one, but that being said, I do think there is one area that would make me like Alanis King content even more. Sometimes when she is expressing her love of a vehicle with that signature squeal, (and thats great, and a part of her character), it feels like the squeal ends up replacing/overstepping the rest of her opinion on the vehicle she's talking about (maybe because Doug thinks shes done talking or conversation pacing or whatever reason), when I really like and want to hear the full opinion with all the nuance of the opinion and about all the little stupid details Im sure both she and Doug are absolutely jaw drop enamoured with (which is great and part of what makes the dynamic so good). Hopefully this came across well if its ever seen and I dont come across like an ass. I really like the Doug x Alanis videos and that great dynamic and wealth of knowledge they both bring so this comment was in no way meant to come across as overall negative or at all harsh. Thanks for the entertainment.

An AZ-1 can fit up to probably 6'6" if you take out the seat bottom foam (like 2 seconds, super easy and tool-less) and replace it with a thin yoga mat cut to size. Then, add a quick release (tilt or full removal) and an adapter ring to telescope the wheel out about 3". Do these two things and it's very drivable for a taller person.

  • @usmcplu

    10 ай бұрын

@@jasonfleming7398 I'm with you. I'm a Civic guy myself, but new (non-GR), sportier Corollas bridge that gap between Corolla and Civic a little more than they used to. Especially with V-Tech no longer "kickin' in yo", like it used to at the end of the RPM range (which made it feel a little extra special and rewarding for high rpm rips). Now Corollas get beautiful, white moonstone leather interior with awesome seats and luxury bits. You still get stick shift. The short wheel base makes this thing handle like a spider. You're right though, it's still a little duller than a Civic Si, but you have to WORK for those fun moments and that's the spirit of these entry level "sporty" cars. Back then, none of these cars were great BTW. They were all limp and lackluster. You had to modify them. Nothing's changed now. People expect everything to be awesome from the factory, but that' s never been the case with these economy grade Japanese cars. If you want something less dull, YOU have to make it less dull.

  • @-BuddyGuy

@@usmcpluOld civics had double wishbone suspension at the front and old corollas had rear wheel drive, if you were willing to drive the stink out of them they were properly rewarding. I think with Japanese cars there's nothing unnecessary there, and with that kind of simplicity and reliability it's really easy to take it to the limit and understand exactly what will happen. You don't really get that with American cars or European cars which will do a wibble wobble or blow up or both

Imo cars are not underpowered, you just have to drive them differently. know when to drop a gear, carry speed through the corner and so on. also these cars are typically smaller and weigh less, which kind of equals out the low power. the low weight also makes it easy going around bends faster than even some sporty big cars.

I don't understand the point of monster horsepower for the road. Where can you use all that power safely and legally? Give it a little too much gas in the wrong place and it'll be sliding off the road into something that's going to be very expensive to hit. Slow car fast and all that.

I think a lot of people nowadays look back on their bread and butter cars they had in the 80s and 90s, the Cavaliers, the Celicas, the Blazers(s10 model) very fondly. Many had no power, slushy shifters,, what not, but they were fun, and today with all the sound deading and everything has over 300hp but weighs over 2 tons, and all the tech and traction control and what not they're not as 'fun' as that old beater you drove in your 20s, so for that, good picks. :)

The big problem with the SLK55 is the price. They haven't come down to where I think they should be, which is low to mid 20's. They're still fetching $35-45k. And if you haven't found one where the hydraulics for the top haven't been replaced, well, just run away. That's a $5000-6000 repair.

There's also a CLK 55 coupe and a C 55 too... bit rare however. Those are powered by the same engine and the weight is negligible. Plus those don't have the convertible roof to deal with.

Alanis likely drove either the regular Corolla SE or the SE Apex Edition as a press vehicle last year; the Apex is more bare bones in features but has the stiff suspension, so she is correct on that rental aspect but the regular SE is a little better equipped in which it has a moonroof. Either way, Toyota decided to kill the manual transmissions for 2023 on the regular Corollas (obviously not GR)

I have had the pleasure of driving a Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo on the German Autobahn and it is truly fantastic in that context. It has massive power and the acceleration from, for example, 170 to 240 Km/h (105 to 150 mph) is lightning fast and like a super sports car. The comfort is very good, but the driving dynamics are absolutely fantastic. You quickly forget that you are sitting in an electric car. It's so good and you really just sit and smile the whole way through.

I own a 2020 Corolla as my daily driver…..and I’m guessing I’m doing even worse than Alanis because mine is an automatic and slow…..BUT, once it’s moving, it actually handles REALLY good, at least for what it is, it doesn’t have any business being as good as it is, and yet it is. As a cheap daily, which doesn’t cause ANY headaches at all….when it comes to fun, you could do waaaay worse than the Corolla. I LOOOOVE MY COROLLA
