Give Me an Answer - People Do Not Die For A Lie, It Just Doesn't Happen

Ойын-сауық

Program 0421 ...........................Benefits of Faith in Jesus - Did Jesus Rise from the dead? - Goodness and Evil - Life is a gift - The Gospel ........................................
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

As an ex-atheist (now a Christian) I became Christian first because of the evidence (Since atheism lacks evidence). Then I was filled with the Holy Spirit and then the laws of logic and design in creation and more and more evidence showed me that the most rational position is to be a Christian. The evidence falls on the side of this truth.

"They were under the Christian religion, thus they had nothing to worry about." - Man, the disciples, and hundreds of first century Christians were persecuted, tortured and killed for following Christ. And many thousands of Christ followers have been martyred since then, and it's still happening today.

If the apostles made up the resurrection, then by their Jewish beliefs (making up a false messiah), they would not be receiving heaven but hell upon death, and willing to go to hell for a lie that they know is a lie? @@ismaelmelville47 that is not true, there are many non-biblical references that document the accounts of the apostles and that they died for their testimony. One big one was Josephus. He was a Jewish historian that was not a Christian, ever. We have Roman records that Jesus was crucified. Others inc..Pauline letters, Josephus Tacitus, Thallus, Philopon, Lucian of Samosata, Mara Bar-Serapion, Suetonius, Pliny the Younger, The Talmud, Celsus, Acts of Pilate. Plus it wouldn’t make any sense that the Romans made it up. They wanted to squash any uprising to follow Jesus because they seen it as a challenge to the Roman rule. That’s why they put a crown of thorns on him and a sign that said king of the Jews. They wanted to make it clear that there is nobody above Rome. They would not have made up that he rose from the dead because no Roman emperor ever rose from the dead. That would put Jesus over Rome. Rome did not make it up.

@@sandina2cents779 I suggest you inquire into the historicity of this matter. Serious historians at best say that Jesus was probably a real historical person but the evidence even of Josephus, is disputed. If they lied about the prophecy, Jesus rising from the grave, then they know it to be false meaning they know they won’t go to heaven because the prophecy wouldn’t have come true yet. @@darkeen42 Peter and John were both there during the miracles, arrest, and crucifixion of Jesus. Peter was crucified upside down in Rome, and John was exiled to the Island of Patmos (The author of the three epistles of John and Revelation). Thomas was speared to death in India for the gospel (A man that said unless I see Jesus alive myself I won’t believe). Otherwise, he has no reason to risk his life. The Roman Proconsul put Philip to death for trying to covert his spouse (that seems bold). James was stoned to death in Syria according to Jewish historian Josephus. Simon was killed in Persia for refusal of sacrificing to the Sun God. Matthew was stabbed to death in Ethiopia. Bartholomew was killed in Arabia. Andrew was crucified in Greece. The only apostle that didn’t suffer a gruesome death (from the historical reports we have) is John. The Roman Empire had declared Christianity to be illegal within the empire and would typically be a death sentence at that time. It was not a life to be lived by anyone that desired the comforts of this world.

I think the problem with the prophecies in the Bible being a good evidence it is a real deal is that these prophecies are vague in their nature and cannot be clearly related so that people would see them without doubts. Like jews does not believe Jesus is the Messiah because all the prophetic revelations what the Messiah will do, did not match Jesus, one of it, is of course that the Messiah will bring peace on earth which did not occur with Jesus. So i believe the only real evidence that God is real and Jesus is the Lord and the Bible is truth is the personal revelation of the Holy Spirit. Only when that happens to you, things begin to get sense in the Bible and you begin to believe it as the Word of God.

Belief in Jesus us not mere cold intellectual assent, which reduces it to an abstraction. It is a total heartfelt throwing in with him. The meaning of the word 'believe' has been tragically watered down from its original meaning to mean to hold a mild and easily swayed opinion that something is true. The original word is the prefix 'be' coupled with 'live' so you could leave out the second e and spell it 'belive' to make its meaning clear again, which is to live by the object of your belief, to totally change your life in accordance with it.

KJV Romans 8:1-14 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Dying for a lie that you know is a lie is a completely different thing... The people who "die for lies all the time," are not aware that the lie is a lie. That's how deception works: You believe a lie to be true because you're unaware of the truth. The truth being that the lie is a lie. Ironically, this is how Satan leads us to death. Blindly us from the truth to make us unaware of it and then spreading deception. Make the lie appear as if it is not a lie at all, and have people believe the lie dressed up as "truth." No one would willingly die for a lie they know to truthfully be a lie; but many will die for a lie they do not know to be a lie.

Hello. I am an atheist. I define atheism as suspending any acknowledgement of the existence of gods until sufficient evidence can be presented. My position is that *_I have no good reason to acknowledge the existence of gods._* And here is the evidence as to why I currently hold to such a position. 1. I personally have never observed a god. 2. I have never encountered a person whom has claimed to have observed a god. 3. I know of no accounts of persons claiming to have observed a god that were willing or able to demonstrate or verify their observation for authenticity, accuracy, or validity. 4. I have never been presented a valid logical argument which also employed sound premises that lead deductively to a conclusion that a god(s) exists. 5. Of the 46 logical syllogisms I have encountered arguing for the existence of a god(s), I have found all to contain multiple fallacious or unsubstantiated premises. 6. I have never observed a phenomenon in which the existence of a god was a necessary antecedent for the known or probable explanation for the causation of that phenomenon. 7. Several proposed (and generally accepted) explanations for observable phenomena that were previously based on the agency of a god(s), have subsequently been replaced with rational, natural explanations, each substantiated with evidence that excluded the agency of a god(s). I have never encountered _vice versa._ 8. I have never experienced the presence of a god through intercession of angels, divine revelation, the miraculous act of divinity, or any occurrence of a supernatural event. 9. Every phenomenon that I have ever observed has *_emerged_* from necessary and sufficient antecedents over time without exception. In other words, I have never observed a phenomenon (entity, process, object, event, process, substance, system, or being) that was created _ex nihilo_ - that is instantaneously came into existence by the solitary volition of a deity. 10. All claims of a supernatural or divine nature that I have encountered have either been refuted to my satisfaction, or do not present as falsifiable. ALL of these facts lead me to the only rational conclusion that concurs with the realities I have been presented - and that is the fact that there is *_no good reason_* for me to acknowledge the existence of a god. I have heard often that atheism is the denial of the Abrahamic god. But denial is the active rejection of a substantiated fact once credible evidence has been presented. Atheism is simply withholding any acknowledgement until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. *_It is natural, rational, and prudent to be skeptical of unsubstatiated claims, especially extraordinary ones._* I welcome any cordial response. Peace.

There is however, a ton of evidence for people dying for a cause which they truly believe to be true, but, as it turned out, wasn't true. People *will* die for something they honestly believe to be a righteous cause, which, as it transpired, was not true. eg: I'm sure Christians would tell you that Islam is a false religion, yet we know countless thousands of Muslims died horrific deaths in the Crusades defending Islam.

Cliffe, I saw what you did there around 7:00. First, you ask your interlocutor to agree that, even for $5,000 in cash, they can't "truly believe" that there is a pink elephant standing next to them.. and then you use this admission about "truly believe" a thing, as your proof that a group of men couldn't "SAY" a thing. For $5,000, I will happily SAY, (like an acting job, reading a script..) that I believe that I am standing next to an invisible, immortal, omnipresent magic sky daddy named Zeus. I can't "truly believe" that without actual, credible evidence.. but all I need for me to SAY it, is sufficient desire to obtain whatever benefit (whether $5k, or converts to my church..) I expect to get from making the statement. I confess, I came here looking for another of your videos (same sweater, same audience), where you say "Why do I believe in God? That's actually an important question." No, I'm sorry.. to ME, why YOU believe is neither important nor particularly interesting. And, from the explanation you gave after that quote, it seems obvious that the reason you believe God exists, is because you have presupposed that "God exists because God must exist". Part of your explanation was, basically, "everything which exists, must have a cause, therefore God must exist as that cause". But, that argument fails to prove that God is someTHING which exists, because, if "every thing which exists must have a cause", and if "God is some THING which exists" (i.e., your presupposition..), then "God must have a cause". BOTH of these arguments begin with the assertion "every thing which exists must have a cause". This is either true, or false, or indeterminate. If it is true, then either God must have a cause before Him, or God must not be any thing that has ever existed. If it is false, then the conclusion "therefore God exists as that cause", can not follow from the false initial premise. I do not claim that my argument has proven that no god exists or that there was some "metagod" that created God.. my only claim here is that the initial premise "every thing which exists must have a cause" is not evidently true and does not prove anything, especially not any "uncaused thing" which contradicts that initial premise. But, anyone is entitled to presuppose and then believe in the existence of a "special pleading" uncaused thing which causes all the other things.. just don't expect me to engage in the same presupposition.

@@kryptokn Christians are the ones claiming the disciples died for their belief in the resurrection of Jesus. But there is no evidence belief in the resurrection of of Jesus played a role in the death of the disciples. Secondly, the Synoptic Gospels claim the people of Jesus’s day thought that Jesus was the risen John the Baptist. This shows that belief in the resurrection did not result in death.
